Grand Canyon stole the show thankfully
3 star rating is because we were waiting at our pick-up point for 2.5 hours with absolutely no information or updates (even though the company had our contact details). Also the air conditioning on the bus was not working! There was no apology for the delay. However our driver Tony was incredible and fun. The Grand Canyon itself was amazing.

The best option to visit the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas!
Honestly, the best excursion I've been on! Prince and Brendo were excellent drivers and guides, providing many cool facts on the way to the Grand Canyon. There were plenty of rest stops, and lunch was included! The Grand Canyon speaks for itself, but Prince made it an even more memorable day by providing facts and entertainment throughout. Just remember... "Don't be that guy!"

The tour was great, with one stop for pictures of Hoover Dam at Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. The best part was our driver, Mike, full of great insights, details of the places we were passing by and lot of funny jokes.

My son's and I had a bad experience with this tour on April 7, 2023, It was booked through Canyon Tours website for the gray line hoover dam express tour. The description said it would include the power plant tour. And 2 hours at the dam, in addition to the photo stops. The biggest disappointment was that when we got to the dam, the driver just gave us tickets to the visitor center and NOT the power plant tour. The power plant tour inside the dam was the ONLY reason we chose this tour. I tried getting my own tickets but the next slot qas after our departure and he didn't even give us a full 2 hours on the dam. Our driver pulled up a bus marked "American" on the side but had a gray line paper taped to the windshield so it must have been legit (eye roll). Our driver was JB and his commentary was extremely boring and mostly useless. He also wore an N95 mask so it was difficult to even hear because it was very muffled. I do not recommend booking a hoover dam tour with a tour company if you wish to actually tour the dam.

Thank you for having chosen Gray Line and we are sorry for missing your expectations. Regarding the Visitor Center and the Power Plant tour, these are provided by the Bureau of Reclamation, US Department of the Interior and while they maintain the site to the highest levels, however on rare occasions they can experience maintenance with elevators that the power plant tour depends upon. For this reason, they are not operating power plant tours at full capacity, and unfortunately did not let us purchase power plant tickets because it is first come first serve. The operators at the Hoover Dam have informed us that uncertainty regarding their visitor operations will continue for the next week or two, yet after that their visitor operations should return to normal which will allow us to resume providing the quality Hoover Dam excursions that we have undertaken for more than 40 years. In closing, I want to wish you all the best in your future travel experiences. Sincerely, Zachary

I booked a Hoover Dam Tour which should have included a Government Guided Hoover Dam Power Plant Tour and bottled water, we received neither! The news that we would not be visiting the Power Plant was given to us at the Las Vegas Sign more than 30 mins since our pick up.

Had we been told earlier that we would not be going to the Power Plant I would have cancelled my trip. The fact I communicated with Gray Line only two days earlier about our trip and pick up times, would have been an ideal opportunity for Gray Line to inform us there and then of the changes! They did not! On top of this I paid an extra $10 ($5/person) fuel increase charge which I wouldn’t have needed to if I were given the news about changes because I would have cancelled my trip.

Chris our driver was honest about the changes and said we would be given a Government Guided Tour in its place so at least all was not lost. His guided tour of the journey to the Dam was excellent although he struggled with volume as his microphone was not working! Gray Line apparently knew of this.

Gray Line also knew there was no water on the bus, a feeble excuse that they had run out last week! I do believe there are shops and supermarkets in Vegas, someone was responsible for ensuring water was provided, they did not.

The Government Guided Tour we should have experienced was not available, the building we were told to go to was closed! I asked members of staff about it but they couldn’t help. I went back to the building to check if the tour was available but it was still closed.

I asked another member of staff about Power Plant Tours, he informed me they were running that day so I have no idea why we were not allowed to visit.

I am most disappointed. I have travelled from the UK and the highlight of this trip was to go into the Power Plant. I arrived at my pick up point at 8:20am and returned at 3:20pm, Chris our guide was informative and helpful and most apologetic for the lack of communication.

I have paid for a trip I clearly did not receive, it did not tick the boxes and I can’t recommend this Tour to others. I hope Gray Line see their way to reimbursing people because they certainly couldn’t come up with the goods. Our trip was not the first this month to be affected either. Most disappointed and I still haven’t seen the Power Plant which I had so looked to seeing!

Hi Angela S, Thank you for being a Gray Line customer and we are very sorry for the elevator issue you experienced during your recent Hoover Dam excursion. We also want to apologize for the other inconveniences you experienced. Since your tour we have subjected your driver to additional training to address the issues you raised, most notably leaving our guests in the coach with door closed and the A/C off. We are sorry that the elevator tour affected your day, however Hoover Dam is operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, US Department of the Interior and as this is a government run industrial facility, we are unable to refund you the cost of your tour due to a unique operation imperative directed by a governmental agency. We are happy to know that you were able to spend extra tour time at the Hoover Dam, including an additional stop at the Hoover Dam overlook area that provides for unmatched photos of the entire Hoover Dam complex. In closing, I want to wish you all the best in your future travel experiences. Sincerely, Zachary

This is the tour that never was. Read the fine print. Make sure you call the day before and find out the real time you need to be at the pick up location! Don’t believe the confirmation you receive that says the tour starts at 10 and to arrive at your hotel pickup location 15 minutes early. I was just saw the email sent early this morning that the pickup time is 8:35 and with so little notice I cannot arrive in time. Also note there is a $5 per person fuel fee that you are not charged for when you book the tour. You get an email the day before telling you to pay the fee without clear instructions on how to pay. This entire process has been frustrating and costly.

Lucius was an awesome guide. Very knowledgeable. Timing of pick up is an issue. Told to be at Excalibur at 15 minutes before the 9:25 pick up (ie 9:10 am) yet bus came at 10:00. 50 minute wait because driver is given only 5 minutes between hotels which is unrealistic for Vegas. Ours was the 9th stop of pick up. Why not do 10 minutes between stops? It will allow people to check in and board and won’t make people wait unnecessarily for nearly an hour?

Worst experience of our lives ! We walked off the bus . Trip was 2 hours late ,bus driver was to busy talking to her friend about her personal life . They made us buy cab fare to a pick up location then we sat on the bus for 2 hours while they drove all over Vegas to pick up 1 or 2 people .You spend more time on the bus then on the tour ! DON’T DO IT

Dearr 848danad2016, Gray Line Las Vegas would like to apologize for the late pickup, yet that was approximately 20 minutes not 2 hours.. When you work around the busiest tourism corridor in the world occasionally transit delays do happen- mainly due to unscheduled road works, difficulty locating passengers at large Las Vegas resorts or just higher traffic volume than normal. We are sorry that this had a impact on your hotel pickup. Gray Line Las Vegas tours offer pickup for many Las Vegas hotels, with more than 200 hotels in the Las Vegas area it just is not feasible to pickup guests at all hotels. Your coach was not picking up random people, but guests who had book our tour at hotels that are on our normal pickup route. Our hotel pickup service is conducted along normal tourism industry practices. Regarding our driver talking with her "friend". While this individual may have appeared to be her friend, it was actually a supervisor that was along to see what, if any, additional training may have been needed for the driver. We wish you well in your future travel experiences. Sincerely, Zacharry

Here's the complaint I sent to Gray Line. I have not yet received a response.

On arriving at the dam, our driver told us that we would not be able to see the power plant because there was, for unknown reasons, a restriction on the number of people being allowed to enter. He also told us that if we wanted to tour the visitor center, we would have to pay for that ourselves.

According to the Hoover Dam website, the power plant was undergoing scheduled maintenance on the day in question. This means that the problem of restricted entry was entirely foreseeable, and I believe it was Gray Line’s responsibility to warn us about that at the time we booked our tour.

Our entrance to the visitor center and the power plant would have cost $30 each. Since Gray Line did not incur that cost, I believe we are entitled to a refund of $60.

Dear beckycA8497FV, Thank you for being a Gray Line customer and we are sorry we missed your expectations. The Hoover Dam's visitor center is having some work done on the elevators they use for the power plant tour, currently when the tour departs Las Vegas in the morning, we do not know the status of the visitor elevators and that was the cause of your missed power plant tour. We have been providing refunds for guests who did not get to go on the power plant tour. In closing, I want to again apologize for missing your sightseeing expectations and I want to wish you all the best in your future travel experiences. Sincerely, Zachary

The trip to the Hoover dam was ok. The tour bus wasn’t very clean and we had seats by the restroom and there was an awful smell the whole trip. The driver was nice and knowledgeable and provided interesting information along the way. Before booking be sure to read the FAQs. Based on the description we thought this was a trip only to the Hoover dam and included a complete tour. You actually make about 4 or 5 stops (one at the Las Vegas sign which we thought was pointless) and the tour that is included is only for the power plant, which lasts about 30 min. This detail can be found in the FAQs. You are not provided bottled water, small detail but bring your own drink if you need to. There is a nice cafe at the Hoover dam. The food is good but expensive and can take a while so you may want to bring snacks. The overall experience was ok but not what we were expecting. I would not book this tour again.

Dear familytraveler32018, Thank you for being a Gray Line Customer and we are sorry that we missed your sightseeing expectations. What people want in a Hoover Dam tour varies from person to person and a good example is the stop at the famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign. To some people it is a "must see" stop and to others, not so much. In closing, I want to thank you for providing us with feedback and with you all the best in your future travel adventures. Sincerely, Zachary

Was instructed to be at bus stop 15 minutes before scheduled 9:20 departure. Arrived at Aria stop at 9:00. Bus arrived at 10:15. From previous reviews this is a common occurrence. Drivers voice was muffled by a mask so we could not hear what he was saying. No clear directions given at any stop. It would be nice to hear everyone has to be back on the bus at a certain time. Much time wasted at a shabby souvenir stop. Since there is no clear direction as to when we would depart back to Las Vegas we ended up waiting a half hour for two girls who were in the snack shop eating hotdogs and french fries. Duration was supposed be 4.5 hours. Ours was over 6 hour. It was a lesson learned. I would avoid this tour, spend a couple extra dollars and take one run by professionals

Dear ExAmici, Thank you for being a Gray Line customer and we are very sorry we missed your sightseeing expectations. I do apologize for the late pickup- this is usually the result of either unscheduled road construction detours or difficulty locating guests at an earlier hotel pickup spot. We are sorry that you had trouble understanding our driver, this is not something that we normally hear about and we are sorry that this affected your day. The only souvenir stops on our tour at the Hoover Dam site, the overlook which is actually a photo opportunity at the highest point you can see the entire site and at the parking structure for Hoover Dam. Both are operated by concessioners of the Hoover Dam. We would also agree that inconsiderate guests that arrive back at a pickup point late can be an unfortunate delay. In closing I want to wish you all the best in your future travel experiences. Sincerely, Zachary

it was unclear where to meet the bus. the hotel was not helpful. thw bus was 1.5 hrs behind schedule. we had to xut the tour short. bus operator was uninformed and only spoke loud enough for the first 5 rows. Additionally i paid in advance the driver announced very loudly that u owed $10 with no explanation. Not a good experience.

Dear Purpcalli, Thank you for being a Gray Line customer and we are sorry for any difficulties you experienced. The pickup spot at Las Vegas hotels is set by the hotels themselves. We do believe that our confirmation give a clear notice as where that is located, but in any event as the area is set by the hotel, they should have easily directed you to the pickup location. Due to the current fuel situation in the USA we have had to impose a fuel surcharge, however this would have been disclosed on your confirmation/receipt. We do apologize for any misunderstandings. In closing, I want to wish you all the best in your future travel experiences. Sincerely, Zachary

Great price, great quality, nice and easy. Didn’t expect it to be something this exciting. Tony was incredible very knowledgeable and hilarious. He really made it into a great tour. Also very impressed how he drove perfectly around traffic and around narrow turns on top of mountains in a huge bus. Give that man a promotion!!!
