- Crowd R0 contributionsTruffle hunting, So much fun!Great experience. We went truffle hunting with Elf, a special breed of dog trained for truffle hunting. It was so much watching Elf dug out the truffles. Definitely worth visit. Highly recommend it. We also purchased some truffle products and they were very reasonably priced.Written July 18, 2019
- MeganUandMikeD0 contributionsVery tasty lunch! We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch which was expertly cooked and tasted amazing! Thierry was friendly and able to answer all of our questions, he has a passion for truffles and for his dogs who were adorable. We were 30 minutes late and Thierry was very understanding, he waited for us and ensured we didn’t miss out on any of the tour. Would highly recommend.Written May 23, 2019
- tlhoooper0 contributionsOne of the highlights of our trip!We visited Burgundy in April 2029 with friends while to primarily visit the Burgundy vineyards. Our tour guide offered a tour to this location for truffle hunting. We very much enjoyed the visit and the 4-course truffle lunch which followed. We learned a great deal, got to interact with the truffle dogs, and found truffles. Great experience!Written April 23, 2019
- butchcassidysr0 contributionsFun & Interesting Adventure in Truffles - Where They Grow, the Hunt and TastingIf you are in the Beaune-Dijon region, take a beautiful drive through the countryside to visit the House of Truffles. We bought our tickets in advance from the informative website so they had advance notice that we also wanted to include the tasting.Thierry is a wonderful host who starts the tour with a lesson about the different types of truffles, as well as how and where they grow. You then step into the forest to observe his trained truffle dog hunt and dig up truffles. Thierry must be quick otherwise the dog eats the truffle! Then treat yourself to the truffle tasting and splurge to pair it with a glass of wine. Stop on your way out and be sure to pick up some truffle flavored olive oil, various truffle tapenades and dipping dishes to bring home. Our family members loved the unique gifts from Burgundy. If you can't make it to the farm be sure to stop in and say hi to Thierry at their shop in Dijon.Written January 31, 2019
- Marnierh0 contributionsReally had a good time ! We learnt a lot ...Perfect to learn on how Truffles are produced, where and all sorts of mushrooms. Truffle dogs are there ! It is not fancy and was build with little investments, but it makes it even more charming with the person guiding full of energy and passion. I really recommend and specially with children, even if adults have a lot to learn !Written August 8, 2017
- Cally870 contributionsA fun morning outWe were recommended to go here by our barge Magnolia owners and loved it! It was a picturesque drive with a stop at a chateau before arriving at 11am. Thierry (I think was his name!) gave us a very informative talk of truffles, the seasons and how they grow. I learnt a lot about truffles that I didn't already know. We then went down to the grove where the truffles grow with Elffe the greedy truffle dog, Elffe promptly helped herself to a few truffles before letting Thierry have some! We must have found about 11 in total but had been warned some days they find none. It was very entertaining watching Thierry try and stop Elffe eating them while he also tried to talk to us. We then went back to the house to have a selection of little bites including lovely rilletes and a profiteroles with truffle ice cream. For the low price (around 35 euro from memory) it was excellent value for a very entertaining couple of hours.Written July 14, 2017
- Em D0 contributionsAn Interesting Diversion from the VinesWe visited here with our three year old daughter, primarily to break up the monotony of vineyard visits for her. We'd seen it advertised and thought it was worth a punt. When we arrived, it wasn't immediately apparent that it was open and we were the only car in the car park (it's really not especially walkable from anywhere) However we went to the front door where we were met by two barking dogs - I think it turned out that these were their truffle hunting doggies, but definitely worth being aware that they might be their if you're less keen on canines! The lady let us in and we paid our entrance fee and she explained that the signs were all in French but she gave us a booklet which had them all translated into English. She also explained that there was a treasure/letter hunt and fairies for our daughter to watch out for. We were then shown into the side room which started off the visitor attraction - lots of explanation of different types of truffle, where they're grown and the tree roots you can find them growing on. The lady also talked us through the kind of cooking that can be done with them before showing us outside to the rest of the trail (all totally accessible with a pushchair). The trail winds through a wooded area and the information is grouped by season, with information on which mushrooms grow in which season and which are edible an which are not. You're also encouraged to look at the woodland around in order to try and spot the letters hidden in the trees as well as the other magical creatures. In the middle there is also a small maze to go wandering through. At the end of the trail you 'should' have all the letters to make the 8 letter word you're hunting. To be fair we had no chance of solving this, in part because we only managed to find 6 of the 8 letters and, of course, the final word you're trying to make is in French... That said, hunting for the letters kept our daughter involved and added to the experience. Back inside, the lady showed us to a small room where we watched a short video showing the dogs hunting for truffles (apparently dogs are better than the stereotypical pigs as they can be trained to not eat the truffles!) Then the finally was the chance to taste some of the products made from truffle, including fois gras and a very bizarre infused-brandy. There was a small shop to peruse and I bought a 100g bad of dried Trompette de la Mort mushrooms. In total, we were probably there for a couple of hours and, being wooded, it didn't matter that the sun wasn't beating down. The experience was interesting and, if you're looking for something to break up the wine tourism, then this fits the bill.Written May 4, 2017
- Ansha G0 contributionsMy first "dégustation de truffe". Excellent!Very good visit. Excellent demonstration with Julio the dog. Positive vibes, nature walk, very very good "truffe tasting". Great products available in the shop 👍👌Written March 5, 2017
- Crystal C0 contributionsA unique, must do experience in BurgundyI really enjoyed my afternoon truffle hunting & tasting with Yann & Elfe at L'Or des Valois! - lombert0 contributionsGreat spot for a lazy lunch, if you like trufflesYet another good find, recommended to us by our host. For around 13,- you can have a small platter with truffle related snacks which we all loved. While you're there, might just as well have a glass of wine to go with your lunch. Next time, hope to be able to go on a truffle hunt.Written July 1, 2016
- HoneyBeeDC0 contributionsA lot of fun!We booked the truffle hunt and the warm lunch a few weeks before our trip to France not really knowing what to expect and... we are so so happy we did! First, we learned a lot about the life cycle of a truffle and what you can do with them. Then we went out for the hunt. Unfortunately, that day, Elfy the dog, was sick and was unable to perform (we hope she is ok now!). It was still nice walking around and we got a sense of what she usually does. After that we came back to the shop and enjoyed the warm lunch with truffles from start to finish. The meal was just EXCELLENT! We highly recommend it! Also, since they are not a restaurant, you need to book ahead to have the full meal. Overall we had a great morning/lunch time and made wonderful memories with this unusual activity.Written June 10, 2016
- John N0 contributionsGreat adventure into the countryside for all!Nicely situated between Vosne- Romanee & Nuit-Saint-Georges, off the beaten track. Take a nice drive out into the country finding a wonderful old chateau that the boutique rents from the chateau owner to conduct the truffle hunts and sell their product line inside the cute boutique. We met the dog hunter at our tasting of 5-6 items with truffles in them on a taster plate that comes with a glass of burgundy for a very low cost. We did not do the hunt with dog, but it would be fun with a family if weather permits and to enjoy the countryside! Wonderful little pond outside front door with real time old feel of 16th-17th century feel of wood beams and farm areas!Written May 24, 2016
- Anne P0 contributionsAnytime againOne of the most interesting, funny and yummy museum we have ever visited. We had a really lovely guided tour through the house in English and also a book with all the informations in German. All in all we really enjoyed the visit. - tom l0 contributionsPersistance pays offWe set out looking for this place. We must have turned around and retraced ourselves at least 3 times checking the signs and not trusting the distances. However my wife was insistent that the truffle place had to be found. Well even when we arrived we were not sure we were at the right place. So I encourage all of you to just keep going, it is farther than you think. The rewards are great however. Great lessons about the different types of truffles, tastings, comparisons, infusions, olive oil, honey, cheese, etc. What great fun. Unfortunately we missed the hunt but we enjoyed everything else. We bought two whole truffles to carry with us to Brittany to meet up with friends and the owner set us up with an ice pack so they would more likely survive the long drive. Well they made it and we enjoyed your burgundian truffles in Brittany for another week. Thank youWritten September 15, 2015

We have been customers of l'Or des Valois since its beginnings and each time we visit we welcome this wonderful encounter. The dishes are very careful, a wide choice of dishes which enhance the truffle in all its forms. Very, very, welcoming and smiling staff. Well done and thank you!

The presentation is very long. The transition between french and English is too sudden so you miss out on things. The owner is friendly but the truffle hunting is basically him putting on a circus show with his dog. Overall not worth it. Better to go for the wine grapes plucking experiences

Dear prakharmody,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations. We strive to create a seamless bilingual experience, and we will certainly take your comments into account to improve the transitions between French and English in the presentation. As for the truffle hunting, it is meant to be both informative and enjoyable, showcasing the unique bond between our dogs and the truffle hunt itself. The truffle discovery experience is a much-appreciated complement to traditional wine tours and tastings, offering something unique that pairs perfectly with those more classic experiences. We wish you the best in your future adventures.

It’s informative and we learned all about truffles. The first hour is sitting on a hard chair and watching a video presentation, which your guide discusses. He does it in both French and English, so it takes a while. Then you go out into their park, where they have buried some truffles and watch the adorable dog dig them up. You then go back inside for a lovely tasting of four types of truffles. We had a free afternoon, so we’d booked this and I was glad we did.

Dear bmick1920,
Thank you so much for visiting La Maison aux Mille Truffes and exploring the fascinating world of truffles with us. We’re delighted that you enjoyed the experience, from the informative presentation to the truffle tasting. However, we’re a bit disappointed that an experience you found enjoyable didn’t warrant a higher rating than 3/5. Nevertheless, we are honored by your positive comments and hope to have the opportunity to provide you with an even better experience on your next visit.
We look forward to welcoming you again in Burgundy,
The Team at La Maison aux Mille Truffes

It was supposed to be an English presentation but the presenter spoke in French 80% of the time. There should have been a card identifying each of the tasting items in front of the tray. That way I would have been sure of what each was and I might have considered buying something. As presented not worth the $. I would not recommend to others.

Hello corrinet977,
We are sorry that your experience was not up to par. Nicolas, our truffle lover, performs the presentation according to the nationalities present and systematically translated into English. Also we do not encourage the purchase of product but by sharing an educational, fun and gourmet moment, everyone appreciates the experience and wishes or not to leave with a product from the shop.

It was a beautiful and long story that was told super enthusiastically. I personally thought it was a great pity that we didn't walk through the woods during the story. Now it was too long a sit.
The actual "search" was also a bit disappointing. That too can be more fun during a walk.

I learned a great deal about truffles and I really enjoyed looking for truffles with Julio (the dog). The tasting menu they had was amazing. I wound up leaving with a lot of truffles and I'm certainly going to be using some of the recipes they gave me. Thierry, the host was very informative and kind.

On a beautiful fall day we drove to this little farm in the Burgundy hills. We know a little about truffles, but have never had them, except for the chemicals in olive oil, which is not the real deal.
To a small group, host Thierry and son Jan explained a lot of science about these rare fungi, complete with PowerPoint. In the woods out back Jan explained this was a demonstration, not a real hunt, for security reason; poachers steal truffles if they know the location. The first dog Julio could not get motivated to hunt (it happens), so they brought out Elfe, another Lagotta Romagnolo, who was very game, and found the truffles that had been buried for her.
Lunch was salad with shaved truffles, chicken in truffled cream sauce, truffled mashed potatoes, two cheeses and profiterole with truffle ice cream. Tasty, but maybe a bit too much of a good thing. I appreciate the love and care that goes into creating this kind of travel experience.
