About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- wdblubie0 contributionsDon’t miss it!We went for their Tinsel Town experience and we enjoyed every part of it! They have a variety of seasonal cocktails and each one we tried was amazing! Great food, service, and overflowing with Christmas decor.Written December 16, 2024
- marlac9170 contributionsTerrible customer service, mixed up orders, and cold food.Looks like if you take a tour you get good service but don't expect the same if you try to make a reservation for the Christmas pop up. Our reservations were not honored as booked. We had terrible service. It was slow and both food and drink orders were wrong when they finally arrived. When we're also charged for the pop up experience even though we were seated in the very loud main bar.Written November 24, 2024
- josh12310 contributionsTerrible management that ruined a special occasionMade reservations here for my anniversary. They called 20 minutes before our reservation to tell us they couldn’t seat us, but we could come at 10:15pm (our reservation was at 5:15). Of course with 20 minutes notice we couldn’t get a table anywhere else on a Saturday night. Thanks for ruining our anniversary, you won’t have to worry about finding a place for us to sit in the future because we will never return.Written October 19, 2024
- MargaretL3430 contributionsDon’t miss this place!Just hit the bar for good cocktails and small plates. Did not take any tours but just found a seat at the bar and enjoyed the cocktails and small plates. Wonderful service!Written October 10, 2024
- aarondW2226PS0 contributionsDO. NOT. COME. HERE.Apologies up front for the rant, but this an insane experience for the price. Very cute decor in an art deco style, but wow, the service is BAD. After being greeted by what I thought was another customer, because they were dressed in a flannel, blue jeans, and Crocs; while all the other staff was dressed very well, we were sat at a table that was so close to the one next to us that we had to ask the other table to move if one of us needed to use the restroom. The drinks were great, but it took nearly 30 minutes to get them and almost an hour to get our food; which barely fit on the table with the drinks. The food was also way too expensive to come out at room temperature. We had signed up for the rewards program and wanted to use it during the visit, but that turned into a whole other hassle! The flannel and Crocs host that had greeted us was the manager and was so rude. We overheard the other employees talking about how the manager had gone home and got high AND THEN CAME BACK!! Like I get it, I also like to get high, but come on... you're managing a business and it's not being managed very well apparently. If the people in charge are reading this, they need to get a new manager and a way to get the food out hot, because until then I won't be coming back until something changes and I'll be telling all friends and family to avoid it as well.Written April 29, 2024
- ridhwim0 contributionsGreat time with friends and family! This is a great experience. We decided to go there because we had sometime on our hands. We made a reservation ahead of time. The host Tony was absolutely engaging and funny. The whole set up is great. The alcohol tasting was amazing. And we fell in love with the botanical gin. We also had fun watching the video about the history of this bar. A definite must!Written December 30, 2023

- chandalayam0 contributionsTHE PEOPLE ARE THIRSTYGreat history of the town and local distillery. We loved hearing how KC grew and the crazy times that brought us to 2023. Wonderful flavors, highly recommend the tour. It will give you all you need to know!Written August 31, 2023
- tjscheerer0 contributionsTom's Town Cocktail CollegeThe cocktail college was a great experience, and one that I hope grows for Tom's Town to provide more exposure and visibility to the great cocktails they serve. It's a great way to introduce new customers to the brand, and another engagement for existing customers. We then went to the bar to have another cocktail to finish off the evening, which we both really liked. All the staff we talked to were pleasant and made the outing better.Written August 10, 2023

- STLSteveB0 contributionsEnjoy unique cocktails in a speakeasyTom's Town has the feel of an old speakeasy. Wonderful cocktails made with their distilled spirits. Catch happy hour from 4-6:30 for a sample of their creations. They also have several tasty small plates to enjoy while sipping your drinks. Pick up a few bottles of their products while you're there. Great place to hang out with friends.Written July 6, 2023

- Miss_courtneyyy0 contributions10/10 Would RecommendSome friends and I went for a bachelorette party. We did a tour, tasting, and ate some food in the restaurant. All of it was so enjoyable. Our tour guide, Dick, gave us a wonderful history lesson about the area, name, and how the spirits are made. He walked us through each of the drinks during our tasting. He really prepared he for what we would taste for each spirit. I’m not much of a straight alcohol drinker (I’m a fruity girl) and I still enjoyed it. It was all so beautifully prepared. We finished our experience downstairs with some food in the restaurant. We got a flatbread cheese pizza, the rosemary fries, and the Spanish baked goat cheese. WOW! Literally all of the food was so good. It was seasoned so well. I would have loved to try more but all we needed was a little snack. I would highly recommend this place.Written February 18, 2023
- Passenger6925070 contributionsHIDDEN GEM !You've GOT to stop in here if you've never been before. The atmosphere is great! Sit up at the bar, because the bartender was Amazing & he will truly make your trip there so much fun! AWESOME drinks! You've also got to try out whatever frozen concoction that their Mixologist has come up with. Don't forget to stop for a quick picture op on your way back to the restrooms right next to the gift cabinet.Written August 17, 2022

As you enter the premises you are thrust back into an era of speakeasy, jazz, fancy clothes and fancy cars. Think Great Gatsby. I ordered a drink (And could have gotten appetizers or food had I gotten there earlier) and was told I could take on the tour. The tour cost $10 pp and is available daily. Reservations can be made online. I think the group is no more than 20. The tour and tasting took about 45 minutes to an hour, After our entire group was accounted for, we stepped into a hallway where we were introduced to our guide Tony Pulford, a gregarious well-informed patron turned tour guide. He began with an overview of Kansas City (Paris of the Plains) during the reign of the infamous Tom Pendergast. Tony then explained the various distillation and aging processes for the 3 basic types of liquor that are created in this distillery (Gin, Vodka and Bourbon). We then saw a short but rather informative film featuring the Founders David Epstein and Steve Revare before beginning our tasting. We tasted theTom's Town Double grain Vodka (Missouri Rye), Pendergast's Royal Gold Bourbon (Finished in port Casks), Tom's Town Botanical Gin (distilled with 14 botanicals and an optional Tom's Town Double Oaked Bourbon (finished with oak Staves). All were delicious in their own right. Being partial to bourbon, I chose to take home the Royal Gold Bourbon.

The tasting room/bar area of this place is absolutely beautiful and the menu has a big selection (including food, we didn’t try any but I read on other reviews it was good) The wait stuff is very attentive and helpful and the girls made sure we were taken care of from the get go.
We got our drinks and waited before the tour started, and once it does you’re able to take your drinks with you. The tour was a good amount of time (maybe 30-45 min) and super informative. Justin is very funny and good at what he does. I’m impressed with the amount of knowledge he was able to tell us in such a short amount of time. Towards the end we watched a video (which was very hilarious as well) talking about the history of the distillery and prohibition in Kansas City). For being an educational endeavor it was very enjoyable overall. We got to taste the gin, vodka and bourbon they make and the gift shop is packed with cool stuff. I would definitely recommend this to anybody wanting to participate in something more then just drinking at a bar. I will be supporting Toms Town whenever we come back.
Thanks so much again Justin! You were great.

We attended Tom’s Town distillery tour and found it educational, interesting, and fun. The cost is reasonable, $10 per person and the tour takes about an hour. They provide history of the building and how it got its name. When the tour is done, there is a tasting of a few different “spirits” made there. You can get there early and have a cocktail and/or stay after the tour for dinner. I would recommend this for a fun evening out with friends or with your significant other.

The tour was presented with humour and loads of anecdote. Who knew KC never had an alcohol related conviction during the prohibition period! We learned about the building, the founders, the prohibition period, the links between the many bars and the amazing jazz scene and much more. We learned about the distilling process and had a tutored tasting of three different samples. Great fun!

The Tom's Town Distillery Tour was fantastic! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and shared a lot about the history of the building and company as well as how they make their vodka, gin, and bourbon. The tasting room was really neat and it was fun to try some of their spirits. I would highly recommend doing this tour when in KC!

This is a great tour and worth your time if you are remotely interested in any type of spirits. I would recommend going early as they have a bar where you can get a drink and snack beforehand. You can also stay after the tour as well. Parking was on property but limited. There are many people who come just for the bar and not the tour. Highly recommend!

Amazing! We came for the tour, which due to Covid isn't really a tour, but is a tasting.
The ambiance and decor in this distillery is unrivaled. It really is like stepping back into the 30s and prohibition.
The story behind the distillery along with videos were really great.
Tons of swag to purchase as well as the alcohol.
The tasting is good. Interesting info about each spirit. Right now there is a tasting of 5 which is plenty.
After the tasting we went upstairs to the "cement company" for drinks, dinner, and live music.
Again the ambiance is spectacular. The servers were attentive and helpful. The live music was wonderful.
The drinks were superb, the food was delicious.
I highly recommend this joint. One of the best distillery experiences ever.

This is one of the most interesting and fun tours you can take in Kansas City. The history they teach you is absolutely fascinating and Dick is an excellent tour guide to present it to you. He's extremely knowledgeable and very interesting to listen to. When you come make sure to leave plenty of time to hang out in the bar afterward! Joy is one of the best bartenders in town. Not only are her drinks fantastic she'll give you great suggestions on where to eat and drink next. We took the 2:30pm tour and the bar was packed by the time it was over. I highly recommend this tasting! The spirits they make here are SO UNIQUE and tasty. This is a MUST DO!

We were warmly welcomed and the tour started promptly at the stated time. The waiting area in the bar is very comfortable and all the employees we came in contact with were smiling and seemed to enjoy working there.
The tour guide, Dick, was very knowledgeable both on the history of Kansas City and the products produced. He was a great speaker.
The tasting portion was very nice whereby you got five one-ounce pours, a short video and more knowledge.
Overall, great experience and recommened.

We visited Tom’s Town from out of town and highly recommend Tom’s Town to anyone visiting KC! We took the distillery tour and tasting with Tony. The tour was an excellent mix of how the spirits are made and KC local history. Tony was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable and a great sense of humor to keep the group entertained. We have taken plenty of distillery tours and enjoyed Tom’s Town the most. The experience is well worth the money and I encourage everyone to also stay after the tour to experience the tasting room. The specialty cocktails are excellent and the food is tasty.

What does the tasting involve? Multiple spirits, or just one? Can we stay and eat after the tour?
