Ricky was an awesome tour guide and the staff on our boat were great fun! Food and drinks were non stop. Got to see some whales and dolphins as a bonus to the day. The waterfall was a little underwhelming but the village of Yelapa was an interesting little spot. Would have been really nice to be able to swim at the beach for a while there. My family’s first time on the ocean and beach vacation and we wanted to do something special to remember our holiday. I don’t regret at all our decision to book this trip to Islas Marietas, with Boat #2 and Casper’s group. We saw so many humpback whales, dolphins and fish. It was espectacular! Everyone was so generous and kind and knowledgeable that my kids kept telling me all of the cool whale facts on the way back to the hotel. We’re not strong swimmers but the crew helped us all out very well and safety was always the priority. Thank you for a day that will surely be a core memory for all of us.Written January 26, 2025

It was the Yelapa destination yacht tour with Ricky Ricardo as the host. It was great. The customer service was superb and tour was overall very fun and entertaining for myself and my group. The second tour I took was in early January 2025. It was the chica locca beach club tour with Isaias as the host. Isaias and all the other chica locca team members were great. Lunch was great and the team kept the drinks flowing which was awesome. We got to see a waterfall by taking an atv taxi ride from the beach club, cool experience. Unfortunately on the way back the yacht had some mechanical issues so we had to board a speedboat to return to the port. However, we got to a couple of whales that came right up to the boat. We were lucky to get the opportunity to see this. Overall, a really cool experience.Written January 2, 2025

We were truly blessed with an incredible adventure as we all opted for more time exploring the bay on the return and were able to witness not one or two wales but two pods … one pod being hump back wales the other being Orcas! We took our second boat trip on the Chica Locca One last week with a group of 25 -- 12 adults and 13 kids ages 4-13 and had an absolute blast. We went last year and loved and couldn't wait to go out again. From the seamless booking process, to the impeccable service on the boat, to the views of the bay, the quality of the food, and the overall experience, I just cannot rank them highly enough!! David was our main guide both years and he is amazing with the kids. We always felt that safety with the littles was a top priority. I strongly recommend if you have the budget to book at least 6 hours -- the 4 hour minimum is just not long enough, especially if you are there between January - March and want to be able to spend some time whale watching. You have a lot more time to get your fill of food and drinks! 2 very clean bathrooms on the boat. Very comfortable, ample seating. Such an amazing trip and we will do it again whenever we are in PV.

Very fun day. There is a good reason why there are many 5 star reviews. Included was van ride from downtown Sayulita to the port and back, breakfast, nice catamaran boat ride, snorkeling, lunch, snacks, paddle boards, water toys, knowledgeable bilingual guide and courteous service. Add to that, much of the time there was an open bar with beers, margaritas and other offerings. Most of the staff felt committed to offering good experience. They did try to sell upgrades (like photos and side trips) but were not at all obnoxiously aggressive about it. They definately earned a good review and an added cash tip over and above the booking fee. Highly recommend it if you are a water athletic who is ready to dive and swim and snorkel and paddle board all in the same day, but still think it could be good for even the more causal participant too, nobody makes you do it all, you could just go for a nice boat ride and have a cocktail too.

An absolutely amazing trip!! The crew was fantastic! Right from boarding they were so attentive to everyone on the boat, serving breakfast and drinks. All the way through the trip they were very informative regarding the whales (and we saw so many). The lunch and guacamole was outstanding! Lalo (sorry of the spelling is wrong) was so great with helping us on the boat when it got a bit rocky.
Hands down would recommend this trip over and over again to everyone!

We had a great time on the tour! I think that our favorite part was playing on the water toys and jumping off the boat into the ocean. My tween could have done that all day (even though though he was resistant to going on a boat in the first place).
We met at the Sayulita meeting point and were driven by air-conditioned van about 35 minutes to the marina. Our group consisted of mainly couples and friends traveling together, but when we got to the boat, there were also many families from the other meeting point. The boat had enough people on it to have a lively vibe, but not so many that it was too crowded. The crew and photographers were nice and helpful. They served a lite breakfast, a lunch, and some snacks and drinks were readily available.
Once the boat stopped, they rotated groups to snorkel, go to the beach on the Marietas islands, or play with the water toys and swim around the boat. To get to the beach or snorkel areas, you would get off the main boat and board a smaller boat. I don't know how they kept track of us all, but they did a great job, LOL. We saw a couple of dolphins on the way out to the islands and we saw some blue footed boobies on the island (which was exciting for us nerds, but they kinda just looked like regular birds). They warn you ahead of time that no food/drinks or sunscreen while the boat is stopped near the islands as it's a federal preserve. That really wasn't an issue (I was worried that I'd get thirsty).
Weather was perfect and then it started to rain like the last 5 minutes as we were approaching the marina; it just added to our adventure. My family has done only one other ocean excursion (Maui to the caldera) and my kids said that the Mexico excursion was their favorite overall but that the actual snorkeling was better in Hawaii. I'd agree; the snorkeling was a smaller portion of this excursion and far less fish, but overall so much fun!
Recommend you bring some MXP to tip your driver and then to tip the boat crew. I didn't have any extra to tip the driver and wished that I had a least a little something. Toward the end of your excursion, the photographers will offer to sell you their photos. They do a really impressive job taking photos along the way and consolidating them for each group before you get back. You get to see them before you decide, but I'd consider budgeting some extra for that as they are pretty talented. I didn't feel pressured at all though.

An absolute luxury experience, the crew and their service is the best boat tour I have taken in Mexico. The team is super accommodating and goes above and beyond for you to have a memorable experience. We got to see whales and dolphins on the way to the Island and that alone was so worth it! This tour is also fairly priced, and very transparent in what is offered and everything from the snacks to the drinks is of quality! We boarded in Sayulita and since we stayed the night in Puerto they dropped us off on the way back once the tour was over. Best last day.

- [ ] We had the most amazing day on a private sailing adventure while in Puerto Vallarta. I cannot say enough about the crew, Captain Pepe, Tanya, Roberto, and Lalo were so attentive. Our captain may be the most seasoned captain in Mexico and I want to thank him for his patience while I peppered him with many questions about his adventure and sailing in general. He has spent up to 3 months at a time repositioning people’s sailboats in nasty conditions and is a true man of the sea. Once concern I have had with past sailing excursions is the lack of “sailing” which I know is due to complexity for the captain and crew..not so with Captain Pepe and we spent a majority of the time under sail power which was AMAZING!!! It seemed every 5 minutes we were being asked if we needed additional snacks or drinks, so attentive. Tanya actually collected shells once we were at our destination, for a child in our party which was so thoughtful. We ended up “splurging” and opted for the fajitas which was like an extra 5 USD per person. The value for the experience was a real bargain and this was the highlight of our trip to PV. The owner was responsive pre sailing, when we had questions. Oh and we saw dozens of sea life including humpback whales with calf’s. Literally nothing negative to say, this was AMAZING. Thanks to all that made this a great day

My friend and I are celebrating a milestone birthday in Sayulita this week and took this tour yesterday. It was fantastic. The crew members were attentive, professional and we felt safe every step of the way. Lots of fun on the boat and off. Food was great, drinks or additional ice offered throughout the day. Party music, the opportunity to paddle board, kayak, snorkel, swim to a hidden beach and have photos taken. One of our favorite crew members was Oswaldo Guzman Garcia, along with Kalico (spelling?) and others. You wear a life vest but I recommend you are comfortable swimming as the currents can be strong. Kalico accompanied me and my friend with a flotation ring that we could also grab onto, as well. They speak good English but are also helpful with those of us who are practicing our Spanish.

It is always my job to book excursions for my wife's family trips. We were only in La Cruz de Huancaxtle for a few days, so I researched Chica Locca, and going to the Marietas Islands for the day. We typically travel as a group, and there are usually 12 of us, so I reached out to the owner Gil a week beforehand. We tried to book our trip to Marietas Island online, but there were no openings for Sunday, the only day that we could go. Gil was able to make a few phone calls and after some adjustments let us know that we were good to go.
NOTE: As of this date, going to the Marieta Islands on a Monday is not possible.
We met Gil at the marina, and the boat was ready to go. His staff and crew were friendly. The slide boat was clean and spacious. They served breakfast right away, and were very attentive to our needs, asking if we needed more to eat or drink throughout the day.
We could tell that the waves were going to be big that day. The crew were very upbeat and positive, trying to make the most out of the rough weather. Despite the larger waves, and windy conditions, we were able to do almost everything that was promised. We can't control the weather, but we had a great time, and the Chica Locca crew made it very fun and enjoyable.
We would go back and do it again. Next time maybe we'll have clearer skies, less wind and waves, with better visibility. Everyone in our group enjoyed our excursion and hats off to Gil and his crew for making it a great trip.

A little bit of everything and a lot of fun.
We started our trip in Sayulita, and the vans that picked up our group were very comfortable.
One at the Marina, we immediately boarded the boat, and again, there was enough room to spread around. Breakfast was passed immediately after, and the whole crew was phenomenal, making sure you always had a drink with you if you wanted.
The trip to the islands was longer than I thought it would be, but it was amazing cruising in the ocean.
When we got to the Marietas, they organized 4 groups, and half of us started playing in the boat, and the other half swan to the Nopaleras beach, and then we alternated.
Once we were all back, we started the third activity, snorkeling at a close by spot.
It was my first time snorkeling, and let me tell you that I never felt bad about it. The crew again was very encouraging and always willing to help.

We were at the front of the boat, and in my opinion, we had the best view, and probably the best sunburn. If you want to see the blue-feet boobies bring your binoculars. They are far away, and you can not really tell them apart without them. The pictures to take home were gorgeous! Thank you to the whole team for an amazing day!!
We started our trip in Sayulita, and the vans that picked up our group were very comfortable.
One at the Marina, we immediately boarded the boat, and again, there was enough room to spread around. Breakfast was passed immediately after, and the whole crew was phenomenal, making sure you always had a drink with you if you wanted.
The trip to the islands was longer than I thought it would be, but it was amazing cruising in the ocean.
When we got to the Marietas, they organized 4 groups, and half of us started playing in the boat, and the other half swan to the Nopaleras beach, and then we alternated.
Once we were all back, we started the third activity, snorkeling at a close by spot.
It was my first time snorkeling, and let me tell you that I never felt bad about it. The crew again was very encouraging and always willing to help.

Our family of 8 adults and two kids ages 7 and 9 took the boat tour and were amazed by the courtesy and professionalism of the entire crew. They moved the tour along at a perfect pace. We never felt hurried or pressured to do anything. They offered drinks and food during the trip just when we felt thirsty or hungry. The whale watching was just fabulous! Many breaches and tail flapping. The fun with the toys in the water and snorkeling worked out perfect. The size of the boat and passengers provided just the experience we wanted. All the amenities and not a booze cruise. Very tranquilo. Highly recommend.

The prices are listed right on their website. Adults are $95 and kids are $55 (at the time of this posting). That's a $40 difference.

Go to the Chica Locca Tours website. Determine which tour you want to go on and then reach out to the tour operator by booking online directly or text them using the number given at the bottom their website. The owner returns text messages or What'sApp promptly.

If it's a nice day and the beach is accessible AND you have paid to go to the Hidden Beach tour, then they will take your there. You can walk on it, swim in it build a sandcastle and look around. If you don't pay for that tour, and the daily eco-tourism wristband, then you'll just drive by the beach by boat and look at it. It costs extra to go to the Hidden Beach.

Does this option only depart from Sayulita? We are staying Puerto Nuevo how far away is this ?

Chica Locca boat tours depart from either Marina Cruz de Huanacaxtle or Sayulita. The town of Nuevo Vallarta is about 16km from Cruz de Huanacaxtle. You would have to find a different tour operator in Nuevo Vallarta or travel to the closest marina that Chica Locca Tours go out of.
