About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- ElbyD0 contributionsLots of FUN!!!There is a museum and an estate house. This is not a stuffy museum. It is full of movie clips that will make you laugh. Allow 2 hours, and another hour to tour the estate house. There are numerous photo ops with lifelike figures. There is a cafe adjoining the museum. Take the #212 bus from Vevey to get there.Written September 18, 2024
- 896leea0 contributionsNever saw a Charlie Chaplin movie, but I enjoyed this site.I must admit, I never saw a Charlie Chaplin movie, but I enjoyed this house and museum anyway. The house was lovely and one got a feel for his home life. The museum was interesting, with lots of photos and recreated sets.Written September 10, 2024
- 394lloyds0 contributionsInteresting and impressive museum. The exhibit and museum were very interesting and I was very impressed with the museum’s features and exhibits. I’m from LA and have seen many exhibits in Hollywood. This museum was better. I highly recommend visiting Chaplin’s World.Written August 21, 2024
- janicejE799MF0 contributionsAn amazing experience! One visit is not enough! The museum, Chaplin's house and grounds are all beautifully maintained. Visitors are made to feel comfortable and relaxed. Everything is so well organised and there is so much to see and learn about Charlie Chaplin's life and work. I came away feeling that he was truly a talented genius and an extraordinary man. Funny thing is I thought that before I went but being at his place in Vervey confirmed it!Written July 25, 2024
- soumyanayak550 contributionsFor Chaplin's fansIt's important to have watched Charlie Chaplin movies to understand everything about this museum. If not, a person wouldn't understand or enjoy the visit. Having watched most of Chaplin's movies, it was easy for me to relate to various clippings, wax dolls & items used by Chaplin in movies. Within the premises is the mansion where he lived in his last days with his wife & children. The museum is in the outskirts (not in the city centre) with ample space. So, no free car park was a disappointment.Written June 25, 2024
- hc1980 contributionsSurprisingly awesome! At first I wasn’t sure about this place since I’m not a Chaplin super fan. In fact I don’t know much about him at all. But this was my favorite museum experience in Switzerland! Super immersive and chock full of interactive displays, film clips on big screens, etc. Start with the Studio experience (to the left after tickets) before seeing his Manor home. Very interesting info as well about the reasons for Chaplin’s visa to the US not being renewed due to McCarthy era. Easily accessible by bus 212 from Vevey.Written June 21, 2024
- jingxingz20220 contributionsA hidden gem and worth the price!I hesitated when I saw the ticket price. However, I am so glad that I went in! The exhibition was wonderful (and has clear explanations), and I love how the museum recreated many of Chaplin's scenes in wax and made them real. I didn't really know much about Chaplin before visiting the museum, but now I am really interested in his works! I spent around 1.5 hour at the museum but felt rushed. I would suggest at least 2 hours (45 minutes in the house, 1h in the studio and 15 min in the garden)Written December 16, 2023
- permia0 contributionsEnjoyable excursionConveniently taking the bus from the Station, it was a most enjoyable excursion. Arriving before opening time it was grand to drop into the Café for a snack. It’s a marvellous exposition of the comic’s life and adventures. From his birth in London, early years and his glory time in America. An initial audiovisual is a great introduction. Moving on to the family home set in expansive lush gardens was to enjoy a picture of their family life. With his fourth wife Oona O'Neill it was a happy few decades with their eight children, in the beautiful setting. But had to smile to see that even the most famous and well connected can sometimes get tripped up. Alluding to, as outlined in the film, when he purchased the estate for peace and quiet, didn’t realise that there was a nearby shooting range. That inconveniently rattled somewhat for a time the hoped for quietude.Written November 20, 2023
- Peppy170 contributionsHighly RecommendThis was the most beautiful museum i have ever visited! The amount of detail and thought that went into this museum is apparent when you tour Chaplin’s home and the Studio. A truly entertaining and educational experience that left me wanting to know more about Chaplin’s life. I would recommend spending some time walking around the grounds and grabbing something to eat or drink in the Tramp Cafe afterwards. Definitely allow yourself a few hours to wander the museum.. there is so much to see!Written October 9, 2023
- JMK-Pittsburgh0 contributionsOutstanding MuseumI had been wanting to visit this museum for a number of years. I was expecting its primary focus to be on his life in Switzerland. I was glad to discover that it covers his entire life and career. The museum consists of 3 components: the studio; his house, and the grounds. We didn’t tour the grounds. The studio is elaborate and provides a detailed history of his life in London and film career. There are lots of video segments throughout, great artifacts and loads of information. The house focuses more on his life in Switzerland. It also goes in to some details about his pre-Switzerland life that aren’t covered in the studio. It was also informative and extremely well done. I was pretty familiar with Chaplin prior to visiting. I learned a lot and loved it. My wife didn’t know a lot about him and she also thought it was great. We arrived by train in Vevey and walked here which took 30 minutes or so. We took an Uber back to the train station for 13 CHF. Admission is expensive @ 29 CHF but it’s worth it. This place is tremendous.Written October 5, 2023
- classic19030 contributionsGreat hidden gem in VeveyThe studio and his home were very well done. Excellent renovation of the home. Lots of information and videos were available and displayed where you could really immerse yourself and learn a lot about Chaplin and his family. Five out of five! The admission ticket was a little expensive, though. If you are staying at a local hotel, you may want to check with them for a city pass that may give you a 50% discount.Written September 24, 2023
- jw69690 contributionsUnmissableIf you are in the area, this is a top tourist attraction. I booked well in advance for the first slot of the day - worth it as when we left it was very busy. However, our hotel offered us half price tickets….too late! The house has a few rooms that give a reasonable idea of the Charlie days but many aren’t furnished or shut off. The gardens are lovely for a stroll. The many museum - a modern building next to the house is quite amazing - not what you think you are in for - I won’t spoil it, but we were blown away. Well worth the modest entry fee (even at full price!)Written September 22, 2023
- gfsc50 contributionsMust-seeMy wife and I visited Chaplin's World in Vevey as part of a tour group. We had no great expectations but were blown away by how good the whole place, and experience, was. What a good museum can be. We started by looking through the old home, where Chaplin lived after being exiled from the US, which was full of fascinating memorabilia, newspaper cuttings, home movies, photos, old film extracts, scripts etc. We could have spent hours in here had we the time. But we had limited time so left the building and took a stroll around the garden. Very open but with some lovely old trees. Then we went to the cinema area to watch a 15 minutes film about Chaplin. It was interesting but then the screen peeled back and we could enter a whole world of Chaplin's works. An exhibition with models, movie extracts, interactive photo ops. - the list goes on. Very, very, very well done and a highlight. Highly recommended.Written July 25, 2023
- helenandpaul130 contributionsSuperb and not to be missedWe took a trip here from Geneva. It's about 45 miles to get there and you have to drive through Lausanne, past the Olympic Museum, and head out towards Montreux. The museum is brown signposted from the town but as you get near there are no signs except for a small sign directing you to the museum. The House is situated behind the wall on the right. You have to pay to park and you can add this to your entrance fee tickets. We paid for three adults but I got my OAP discount. We walked round the grounds of the house first and as you get to the end there are some billboards showing Chaplin's speech from the Great Dictator. As we entered the house you walk round over three floors. There are lifts for those with walking difficulties and within the house there is lots of memorabilia, with short videos, photos and other items. There are beautiful views from the windows over the lake and into the mountains beyond. After leaving the house we walked back towards the entrance and waited to enter the studio. Entrance is timed and you might have to wait a few minutes before the doors open but the wait is really worth it. Once inside you watch a. ten minute video about Chaplin and his films and his time in Switzerland. Once this finishes you walk forward into the studio area and walk through sets with costumes and other memorabilia on show. This bit was really interesting and showed things from Easy Street, The Kid, the Great Dictator etc. His Oscar is on display as well as his clothes and shoes and his hat and cane. Really informative and worth every penny. As you leave here you need to walk up a steep flight of stairs. There is a souvenir shop to walk through before leaving the exhibition. The souvenirs are tasteful and really well set out, but some are expensive. We visited the Cafe afterwards for sandwiches and coffee and sat outside under a canopy. We stayed here for about 3 - 4 hours and it was a fantastic exhibition. A must for visitors, not just for Chaplin fans.Written July 18, 2023

I really regret this review because I think the place and museum would be really great. Up until the entrance to the mansion including the ticket sale online with defined timings to avoid crowds, everything is well organised (masks are mandatory in the canton of Vaud anyway). The moment one steps inside however, there’s no social distancing whatsoever. People crowd around screens, move in all (wrong) directions bumping into and breathing down your neck with absolutely no window open to at least insure some fresh air. No staff around in the house to direct the visitors. In this situation, we rushed through everything trying to get out asap and missing out on almost everything. Finally outside, we strolled through the beautiful park which was very nice before trying to find an exit that didn’t take us through the gift shop where dozens of people stood shoulder to shoulder again. If you don’t care about the pandemic, you may just enjoy it otherwise it’s pure stress.

I was there on 09/17/2024. The museum is open until 5pm, but I arrived at 4:20pm and the ticket office was already closed. The employees informed us that there would be no point in purchasing online as the museum would close at 5:00 pm. However, a group of tourists started their visit at 4:40 pm. Negligence from the 2 employees who were serving the queue. Another couple arrived after me and they also left frustrated, after all, it's not every day that we have the opportunity to be there... improve the treatment of tourists, or make the opening hours of the TICKET OFFICE absolutely clear. Honestly, it seemed like employees wanted to go home straight away, but the museum must have someone more responsible, I hope… I sent an email to the museum reporting what happened, but I have not received a response so far.

I am not a fan of Charlie Chaplin. All I knew of him was the Tramp.
BUT this museum was very interesting. It showed the man behind the fame and his determination to produce very deeply researched and meticulousy rehearsed and performed films.
The life of CC was of more interest to me. The museum showed both the public and the private man, who turned out to be fascinating (other than the off putting obsession he had with marrying barely legal girls - something I didn't kow about until I visited the museum!).
In addition to the house and the museum of course, the setting is beautiful.
The whole thing was very evocative. I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to.

Jam-packed with memorabilia and footage from many of Chaplin's films but there's also loads of information that tells the story of the whole of Chaplin's life.
Very interactive and you come out so much better informed - not simply in terms of knowledge but you have a much better sense of what life was like at the time.
Very tastefully done.
The only thing I'd add is one of our party spoke very little English - whose main language is Ukrainian. It would have helped if there had been some sort of multilingual portable device available

A beautiful house & a well organised/oiled machinery to make some money.
The shop sells loads of expensive crap.
I am a fan of Chaplin & I think he would be horrified at this commercialization, starting with the entrance price & even the exorbitant car park ticket (not that we needed it).
Anyway, luckily it was free for us through our Hotel, thank God!
The house itself is lovely & great if you want some hints on decorating.
Full memorabilia. The toilet on the first floor is interesting but the best is the view from the round window in the attic.
Lovely garden to have your picnic in.

We thought this would be interesting, but were completely blown away by how good it was. By the time you've wandered through the house and looked at all the exhibits you have a pretty clear picture of Chaplin's life. This was enjoyable and we felt it made the visit worthwhile. The surprise was still to come - the Studio is fantastic! I'd guess that some people might give it a miss after spending an hour or so in the house, but that would be a big mistake. After watching a short film, the screen is raised and you walk through into a wonderland of film sets and Chaplin stories - its magical!

Beautiful museum, very beautiful wax statues, they look real... the cinema is also beautiful then the doors of the set that open make you feel like you are part of the film...
In the manor, however, I would have preferred a background that explains the many photos and his life... but overall it's nice..
The shop is also stocked with many souvenirs...
The entry price (31€) is a little high for a group of 4 adults + parking is paid...
But definitely worth seeing once in your life because it's worth it...

I only recently became intrigued with silent films and the life of Charlie Chaplin. I looked up "Chaplin / Switzerland" on day while on my vacation and saw that there was a town called Vevey and that was where Charlie Chaplin's Swiss residence was, along with Chaplin's World.
Everything I had read about the exhibit and residence convinced me that I needed to go and experience it for myself...and like many people have already said in their reviews, I was blown away.
What an incredible tribute to Chaplin's life (the good and the bad). This was something not to be missed.

We were travelling through switzerland for the week by train and whilst stoppung in Montreaux had a day trip to Lausanne and Vevey. We did the morning at the Olympic Museum which was very good, but the trip was topped off with a visit in Vevey to Chaplins World. Staff were excellent, the studio was interactive, full of content and actual memorabilia which made it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The manor house was a little dark, but the content was again excellent. We dod not have time to stroll round the parkland as we needed to catch a bus back to the station, which is only an 8 minute journey, with a bus stop right outside the entrance to the museum. Would highly recomend this to anyone.

Chaplin's World is an occasion, an exhortation to rediscover Charlie Chaplin, a personality with whom many others of the twenty-first century lose their color. A visit to Chaplin's World is something impressive. Something that allows you to get closer to the intimacy and soul of this titan of cinema. I'm coming to this remarkable place for the third time and I have to admit that Chaplin's World is an extremely well-made museum. The efforts made to preserve the authenticity of the place are remarkable. Lovers of the seventh art can only be delighted with the visit and the solutions found for the presentation. A MAGICAL PLACE!
