We took our (local) staff on a paddle through Boardman Lake and down the river ending at the Workshop Brewery. The staff at the The River made it easy and and they were communicative ahead of time about the weather and possible changes in length. Everyone super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

6 of us went on the Boardman River experience. It was perfect! Starts with a little white water for a bit of excitement, then the river calms down for the rest of the very scenic trip through the woods. The staff was great, and we’re very happy with the overall experience.

We did the the Boardman River trip. Beautiful environment and a super easy paddle. Equipment and service met all expectations - friendly and easy to work with - wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. The “rapids” were Class 1, so very doable even for beginners. Very shallow with a few sticky bits, but not too hard to get through. You do have to go under a road through a large diameter corrugated iron drain pipe, maybe 10 yards long. This did require most of us to lay back onto the kayak to get through. My wife is not good with enclosed spaces - she made it through (no other choice really), but wasn’t thrilled.

Rented 2 Hybrid bikes for 2 days in Traverse City 7.22. Couldn't have been easier to deal with. Delivered to our Air BNB condo just of the bay and supplied a lock for us to use when they were picked up, Good solid bikes. Took the trail up to Suttons bay and around traverse for an excursion. Highly recommended.

Excellent fun! We did the 90 min kayak and bike combo. Both were great fun! Easy parking, easy to find. We would do it again.

I highly recommend this company! We rented two stand up paddleboards for a week to use on an inland lake. Price was right and the SUPs were in excellent condition and provided hours of fun each day of our trip. They were delivered at our VRBO promptly and the team was very easy to work with. We will rent again the next time we return to Traverse City.

The drop-off and pick-up service made things simple, and everything we rented was in excellent shape.

I did a half day tandem bike ride, and it was amazing! The trail was beautiful, not a hard ride, and there was so much to see and do along the way! We had an amazing time, thank you so much!

We arranged for our kayak to be dopped off and picked up from an alternate location, and everything went flawlessly.

My husband and I have enjoyed tandem kayaking with The River for years now, and it never disappoints! This year, my 8-yr-old son and I enjoyed an adventure of our own. We have always been valued as customers here, and met with friendly and knowledgeable employees. Even in a year when COVID has affected many places’ standard of customer service, The River Outfitters has maintained an atmosphere where we feel welcomed and all of our needs taken care of, in ways that go above and beyond. As beginner kayakers, we were given good instruction that allowed us to test our skills, without being patronizing. And even when we made the mistake of requesting a pickup at a spot that wasn’t on the map, the driver was accommodating and happy to help us out. Interacting with these folks and getting out on the water makes one forget all his worries and enjoy the present moment, making lasting memories. There are other places in the area offering the same services, but I wouldn’t even look elsewhere —The River Outfitters is where you want to be!

My wife and I have rented bikes from at your Medalie Park location on the south end of Boardman Lake. Your personnel like Olivia and Amara were very helpful and guided us well regarding the trails. We also rented a tandem kayak which worked out particularly well because Scott delivered it and then picked us up when we got to Lake Michigan. Rusty

Loved the entire experience on the river. The equipment was not sized to us so we had ill fitting helmets and life vests. The driver was not only lacking experience with driving and definitely in handling a trailer but was downright scary at moments with tailgating. Hard braking many times and taking curves too fast caused us all to be unseated and grabbing for something to hang onto. It was a scarier ride in the van than the river. And I'm a thrill -seeker!! But hey- adventure is adventure, I guess!

We had a great time on the self-guided KaBrew tour. The scenery is beautiful and it's just the right amount of distance to cover at a leisurely pace. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.

We rented three tandem kayaks at the top of the Boardman Lake in Medalie Park for a self-guided float. We cruised through the lake and stopped at a brewery before continuing through the river. We had two kids under the age of 13 with us and they loved every minute. RO Manager Scott was helpful in providing us with maps and offering tips to guide us through the lake. The lake was full of silt and vegetation from the recent removal of the dam but I felt confident on how to navigate my group through the lake thanks to Scott. The kids enjoyed furthering their kayak skills and they got to see a lot of river animals including turtles and ducks. Pick-up at Sunset Beach was easy - we just dropped off our kayaks on the beach and had an RO team member pick them up.

The Boardman River trip was very fun and I think the fact that water levels were lower made it a bit easier during the rapid portion of the trip. That was good for us since our group had some inexperienced kayakers. The calmer portion of the route is beautiful and very peaceful. the manager (I think his name was Scott) was awesome to work with and he gave us a lot of pointers.
