About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- newyorkbymonth0 contributionsGhosts in TC are real... check them outI grew up in Traverse City and we all knew about ghosts reported in many places downtown. I had just never had them explained and had a "face" put to the spirits. Very fun. Very real.Written October 26, 2023
- Erik G0 contributionsSpooktacular Time!!Des was awesome! She is a hoot and a half and an excellent storyteller. She is obviously passionate about her work which makes the entire tour incredibly special. I love to learn about history and Des certainly knows her history. It was fascinating to hear about her research about Traverse City as well as the local stories which she has first hand experience with, as she grew up in TC. Plus, ghost hunting is fun! I really appreciated Des’s methods. For any nerds out there, she really does use the scientific method. If you enjoy history, great puns, and wonderful company, I 100% recommend this tour.Written October 6, 2023
- erinr170 contributionsFun tour full of local loreA great tour, full of Traverse City history. We have experienced several ghost tours in different cities and this tour stacks up. Des is a local and clearly loves this town and its stories. Highly recommend.Written October 4, 2023
- dturcott0 contributionsA fun and informative tour of Michigan's best tourism destinationAny day is a good day for a trip to Traverse City. On the first Saturday of autumn I made the 200 mile trip to TC for the express purpose of going on this tour. My degree is in History and I have a YouTube channel devoted to local history so I'm always researching topics that I find interesting. I arrived early and found a parking spot (Free after 6pm). The tour began at the WTCM building and ended at the old Carnegie library. A distance of about 3/4 mile. There were detailed histories presented of about eight locations along with some discussions of a few others. Our host, Des was a delight. Enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable of the area as a lifelong resident, she made the stories personal and informative. Interaction from the participants was encouraged and everyone was made to feel welcome. Both the historical information and the ghost stories are real. I have been on other history walks where the stories are mostly ficticious. The haunted aspect of the walk is not ghoulish or disturbing. I would say that it would be age appropriate for children to older adults. Really, anyone who could make the walk and pay respectful attention to the presentation. I highly recommend this tour and will do it again in the future. It costs about $30 and lasts 90 minutes, but it was closer to 2 hours by the time people finished asking questions and chatting afterwards. As with any tour, don't forget to tip your guide if they do a good job. You wont be disappointed.Written September 25, 2023

She's friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time and we're safe. She even toughed it out with us through a thunder and lightning storm! - Maggie K0 contributionsAmazing! What a great tour! I've been on ghost tours in lots of cities before but never in my hometown. Dez made it informational but not sensational. Lots of info and facts that can be corroborated. I was afraid of it being silly, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself and learned a lot.Written September 25, 2019
- Bmikelle0 contributions100% worth itI’ll admit I was a little nervous about what I might be getting myself into, considering there wasn’t a wealth of information available regarding this experience. However, it was 100% worth it. If you have any interest in paranormal/ghost experiences, you should give this a whirl. It’s an experience we will not soon forget and can’t wait to have again in the future.Written September 8, 2019

Great event! My group of 6 friends enjoyed it very much and we are still pretending to have wine glasses floating around as another Traverse City paranormal activity! Des was a very attentive host and kept us engaged with her stories.

Des was an outstanding tour guide! She skillfully shared captivating ghost stories from the Traverse City area, seamlessly weaving in historical context to enrich the experience. The highlight for me was the opportunity to use ghost equipment at the tour's conclusion, adding an exciting twist to the adventure. Overall, it was an exceptional tour!

We took the ghost tour with our family: grandparents, aunt, parents and two kids (ages 7 and 9) and had a blast! Des is not only passionate about the supernatural, she adds a touch of humor to her ghost tales and did an awesome job including the kiddos in the tour. It was the perfect mix of spooky but not too scary. Highly recommend this tour for one and all! The kids ABSOLUTELY loved ghost hunting at the end of the tour with Des’ hunting equipment. 5 stars and would definitely do again!!! Thanks Des!!!

The tour was extremely well done, Des does an amazing job at explaining the history of places with the paranormal stories, and she knows a lot on both topics. The only downside was not being able to go in and explore the places. I would definitely go on this tour if you’re looking for good ghost stories and to learn about the history of the city without the fear of a ghost getting you!… well until you get to the park.

This was our first ghost tour. Our guide Des was knowledgeable and very entertaining. We had a great time even though it was raining 🙂 We visited the last week of March, but the app only lets us choose up to February 🤷🏻

I don’t even know where to start when it comes to how much I loved this tour. Not only was it educational, but it was FUN. We talked about several different locations— in a historical and/or paranormal sense. We walked a very manageable distance through main street, the park, and the surrounding area. Our tour guide, Des, was personable, emotionally intuitive, and intelligent. When sensitive topics came up, she made sure no one was uncomfortable before speaking. She made sure to wait until all group members were together before continuing on. If someone seemed downtrodden or otherwise, she was there to lift them up without prying or drawing attention to their plight. (She was also very hilarious, and I loved all of the jokes I understood!) The only complaint I have is that I can’t give this experience 10 stars. I wouldn’t want to spend my evening any other way. This is definitely a must for anyone visiting TC.

I want to thank you for this review. I sat in stunned silence for quite a while before I could think of how to respond. I took a screenshot and will carry these thoughtful words with me and every day I will read them to remind me to keep going. I know that in a world of billions, that my tour I crafted and curated as a passion project will not be received by everyone the same way. But you so accurately touched on HOW I want to be with the guests I host on this tour. I didn't think people saw that part of why I am a guide in my beautiful Traverse City. Thank you so much for seeing me. I love doing my ghost tour and these kind thoughts I will cherish....oh and I showed this to my family. They still don't think I am funny! :) ~Dez, owner and tour guide for Haunted Traverse Tours.

Our tour was so full of historic information around the downtown of Traverse City. Including some actual ghost hunting with some equipment as well. It was so much fun. Our tour person was very friendly and kind.

Is this a kid friendly tour? Would it be too scary for an 8 year old?
Thank you
