We took Memo and Ye’s tour with our large extended family and it was a highlight of our trip. Our guides were very knowledgeable, the tour was thoughtfully organized, and we got to try so many things that none of us had had before (even having previously spent time in Nicaragua). The market in León is a showpiece of a Nicaraguan market (cleaner and wider aisles than in Granada; much larger than SJDS), and it was very helpful to have someone explain what the things we didn’t know were and how things are usually eaten or prepared. Everyone in our group had different favourites out of what we tried (fruits, drinks, savoury prepared dishes) and our guides answered all our questions (there were many as we were a group of 6). We also appreciated that our guides came with us to the grocery store after the tour to help us find packaged and labelled versions of some of what we’d seen in the market (pinolillo!) that we could take it with us through customs when we went home to Canada. Fabulous tour, really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks Memo and Ye!

Great guide, great tour, great food. We can highly recommend it! We tried many fruits and drinks and also special dishes. Even though we walked the market before Memo still surprised us with things the market offers you would never think of

We went in Nicaragua at the end of October for a great 6 weeks. We arrived in Leon, it was our 3th day in Nicaragua. We had only few words of Spanish. We were decided we would learn a lot about the culture, the people, the land. Just before going on the Volcano tour we were approached to do this tour. We had no hesitation.

9h00 am the next morning we were ready to go for our food tour! It was amazing. We tasted some fruits we had no clue about, tasted amazing drinks, learn about some of the culture of the people which is great. Went in parts of the market we would not have gone without a guide. Tasted food we would not have tasted also.

This is absolutely a tour we recommend to everyone going to Leon. A must! Good luck you both in your business. Wishing you tones of success!

We heard of this food tour by one of the guides from the Volcano tour we did. We really enjoyed it and tasted all different kinds of typical Nicaraguan fruits, dishes and drinks. The guide, Memo, took us to a local market and it was really nice. He knows the people’s and the food very well and let us taste all kind of things. We did it on a Saturday because then there are more kinds of fruit and dishes available on the market. It was a very nice way to get to know the city of Leon and its food secrets.

I love food, so naturally I was drawn to this tour, however I was blown away by the variety and information of the various fruits, foods and drinks that you get to try.
You are not simply eating the food, you are experiencing the noise of the market, learning about Nicaraguan culture and history, and supporting local merchants.
The guides themselves are locals and are very welcoming, informative and respectful.

I encourage anyone to try this tour, you will not regret it, it is such an authentic and exciting experience.

Normally I do not write about something I didn't do, but since it was so nice I will write...
I heard about this guy in a café so I was interested. Since I wasn't sure about all food that Nicaragua has to offer, deffinately not around the market, I wanted to book. Easy to communicatie with using WhatsApp but unfortunately the guide was not available the day I was... He immediately went searching for a solution and found a stand-in to take his place. Soo good and well willig to help me having a good experience in León. Unfortunately the stand-in called sick in the morning but the way of communicating showed me how good this guy is. He is involved with the plans of 's traveler. Deffinately a reccomendation!

We had an amazing tour of the main market in Leon with Tlakualli! Our guide was so knowledgeable about the local fruits, drinks and dishes and it was great to see how conscious she was about not using single use plastics, she brought all her own cutlery and cups for us. This is amazing value for money as we were so full by the end of the tour after all of the delicious things we tried. I cannot recommend doing this tour enough, it is a great way to see the city!

Our guides took us through the market and we ate many different types of local fruits, drinks, and hot street food. Carlos even brought a knife and chopping board set so we can cut fruit effectively. When I expressed a desire to try out the nacatamale, they went to get it for me To try. Despite me only being the only one on the tour, both the tour guides were patient and good with English.
