About the operator
- capweekend00Had fun despite Mother NatureIt was too bad Mother Nature didn't cooperate so we could do our tour, but Vamos Travel was very helpful once we were canceled and our guide Julio was great. He spoke great English and was very informed about his Country. His stories were awesome.
- marisalya202300Beautiful views of LeonI enjoyed my tour in Leon, my guide was Freddy and he was very knowledgeable of the town and knew so much information. I booked the 9am tour, which was perfect. I was able to tour the Catedral de Leon with hardly anyone there and the weather was not too warm. The view was breathtaking, with surrounding views of the city is just incredible. You do have to walk up a few flights of stairs, but its not too bad. It is definitely worth the view. We walked around town, it did seem to go a bit fast, I would of liked more time to stay at the Catedral and explore the town more. I recommend a longer time to stay and observe the town and Catedral it is just beautiful.
- Hugh W00Great ValueTour guide Victor was fantastic! Invaluable source of information regarding his country. We went to the volcano and because of weather they would not let us in....he took the time to take us to some great views and then took us back a second time (which he did not have to do) and they let us go up to the volcano! It was quiet and you could actually hear the volcano spewing lava.....INCREDIBLE!!!!
- JoeSoNi00JoeIt was an amazing tour with knowledgeable Mr. Wilfredo who explained everything about the old and new Leon, it’s history and presented the best of this beautiful city.
- edwardwH3950JX00Would highly recommend this guide and tourAn informative and interesting tour which was greatly enjoyed by the group and added background to the history of the country
- twofishes00Cooking ClassWhile in Leon we took a cooking class with Vamos Travel Nic. It was an excellent experience. All communication with Franklin was answered promptly. Henri our guide met us at our hotel and from there we walked to the Central Market. This is where the fun started! But I am not going to give it away you will have to join and see what I am referring to. We sampled different products at the market. With our ingredients in hand for our vegetarian option of “Indio Viejo we traveled by bus to the outskirts. We learned how tortillas were made at a local workshop. We learned to cook our typical dish and sat at the table with our guide, Franklin, and our cooking instructor. It was a wonderful experience eating the meal with our new friends. I highly recommend this experience for all.
- 119poppyw00Incredible guideBrilliant guide!! Had a wonderful experience and he even taught us to salsa dance in the volcano! So passionate and really gives you a great understanding! A amazing guide and would recommend to anyone!! Thankyou
- Xtinabella2600Nicaragua’s nature at its finest!Franklin did an excellent job in coordinating this tour last minute for me. I added it about a week before my departure and he was so accommodating about it! I say this because I want to emphasize how incredibly organized he is! I’m so glad that I added it because I wanted to get as much out of Nicaragua that I could during my Short stay there. The horse back ride to the lagoon was such a beautiful experience out in nature! I also love that this was a family owned farm. I really felt like I had a very authentic, organic experience which is very important to me. We even had a real cowboy with us on the trail to help and guide us along the way. The horses were so cute, docile, beautiful and easy to ride. The trails were gorgeous! Stunning greenery everywhere, farmland, and volcano views. The ride itself was so relaxing and nice. Once we got the lagoon, I relaxed and hung out in the water, swam a bit and just stared into the beauty of the lagoon and it’s surroundings. Franklin and I talked and chilled, I felt like I was hanging out with a friend. He also took gorgeous videos and photos of me as well! Both at the lagoon and while horseback riding. I love to look back at them! Thank you Franklin for an amazing trip!
- Xtinabella2600Insightful & informative! BeautifulI had a personal one on one tour with Wilbert Medrano and he was soooo insightful and informative. He knows so much about Leon and even gave me his own personal history with Leon too which I loved learning about. Super nice and sweet guy! He took me to some great places and took great photos of me too (and he also wasn’t bothered with taking all of the photos I wanted to take hahaha). I LOVE learning about the history and culture of other countries/cities when I travel and I feel I definitely got such a great value on this tour. Loved seeing all of the old architecture and the museum of legends and traditions (museo de leyendas & tradiciones - Carcel 21) was so fascinating. SO WORTH IT. Highly recommend this to kickstart your journey in Leon.
- Camper0642636665000Spectacular!Absolutely stunning! Took the 4pm tour so we were there to see the sunset. Julio was an amazing guide - friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. Highly recommend.
- Z7868VOmatthewp00Great/Dependable Tour OperatorWe had a great trip with Frank, hiking the volcano then sand boarding down. Our group was a mix of c.30yrs - 87yrs and Frank and his team were awesome, helpful and very accomodating. On top of that, Frank is great with his own camera and more than willing to send photos across, without any additional payment. Couldn’t recommend it enough. Thanks Frank!
- kchoedon_2300The best AgencyI was in Leon for 4 nights and I did all the tours with this agency to make my life easier. I am so glad I came across this agency. I did a private tour and service was top notch. Max was my guide for all the volcanoes. I did Telica, Cerro Negro and El hoyo and El Tigre lagoon. Franklin gave me history lesson with the Leon city tour. These guys are very professional. Franklin helped me coordinate all my tours to fit my schedule. So far all the tours I did in Costa Rica and Leon and Granada, they were the best. The level of professionalism and knowledge is outstanding. They will help you if you needed anything else. I just felt like I was hanging out with my buddies. The communication is so easy and fast. I highly recommend this company.
- Miranda G00Amazing Tour!!!!Great tour of the volcano at night! Friendly company and gave great details regarding the history of the volcano and its interesting stories. Amazing sights. So fun!
- lilianw90800Definitely worth it !!The salsa lesson was incredibly much fun ! Me and my boyfriend enjoyed it a lot and we‘re ready for some salsa parties in middle America coming ! Thank you for this nice experience:)
- 246barbv00Amazing Day with FranklinFranklin is amazing! We went volcano boarding and then went on a private tour of León. He gave us a ton of history as we chatted in the car and on the tour while ensuring to get amazing photos and videos of us. He also was kind enough to find a restaurant that met my dietary needs (vegetarian). It is clear he has a true passion for what he does and for Nicaragua. I highly suggest booking with him! Thank you so much Franklin! We will see you again soon!

Franklin was a fantastic tour guide. We did not feel unsafe at any moment and he reassured us when we when we were wary of our surroundings. Franklin arranged for someone to help carry our boards to the top which enabled us to enjoy the hike. The views were spectacular. Franklin’s knowledge of the volcanos and the country was impressive. I would recommend this tour to anyone, much better than other groups of people we saw. Pick up and drop off was comfortable and we were given refreshments afterwards. This is the tour you should do! Thanks Franklin!

The tour was amazing.
Our guide Miguel was very helpful and friendly. He knows a lot about Nicaragua and its nature. We had a private tour, so it was a bit more expensive than other tours, but totally worth it! We recommend the afternoon tour to see the stunning sunset from the volcano :)

We wanted to experience as much as possible in the limited time we had in Nicaragua which is why we decided to book a tour with Vamos Travel Nicaragua. We wanted to see the country from a local’s perspective which is how we met Franklin, the owner of Vamos Travel Nicaragua
Franklin does it all! From history, transportation, photography, and friend, it was so helpful to travel through Nicaragua with a local expert! Right away we knew we made the right decision.. It was a great feeling to have someone waiting for us at the Costa Rica / Nicaragua border.
Vamos Travel Nicaragua crafts their tours to best experience the country's history, culture, and most importantly food. =) Our favorite experiences were volcano boarding, Masaya volcano and the León city tour. With more than 16 years of experience as a certified tour guide, Franklin is a walking encyclopedia of dates and did a great job of conveying the history and information in an engaging and interesting way!
Vamos Travel Nicaragua is a master at customizing his tours to each of their customers. We told Franklin the things we wanted to see and he made sure that we were able to experience them. It was very helpful with our limited time to have his honest opinion on what was worth seeing and what we could skip. We really wish that we had time to explore the beautiful country of Nicaragua, but so thankful for our incredible experience with Vamos Travel Nicaragua!

We loved our private volcano boarding experience. MAX and Franklin were superb guides who took great care with us to ensure we had a good experience. We are seasoned hikers and not part of the hostel/backpacker party crowd. They picked us up at our hotel in Leon at the time we requested, provided safe comfortable transportation with good conversation, all the necessary equipment (board, coveralls, goggles and gloves). If you have a scarf, buff or bandana that is helpful to keep ash/debris off your face. The hike up was not challenging and most of the elevation gain was in the first half. We clocked 750 ft elevation in 38 minutes, traveling a little over a mile, with several stops for photos. Instruction was thorough, and when I struggled to get my board up to speed Max arrived with advice and a push start. Fresh watermelon and a selection of cold beverages were provided for the ride back to town. The total time including transport, hike up, leisurely stroll around the crater, boarding, and return was about 3.5 hours. For those concerned this was not scary, you had to really make an effort to go too fast or fall off.private tour for 2, $100 less if more people.

We had an amazing time, Cerro Negro is beautiful, the volcano and crater are amazing to view as you hike up. It was really windy the day we went which added a bit to the excitement / fear lol.
Our guides were super fun, knowledgeable of the area and gave us lots of cool info. We highly recommend the private tour, they pick you up directly at hotel and the schedule is a bit more flexible that way.
We won’t spoil the rest of the details on the descent, but it’s definitely a cool unique experience. Plan to get dusty! They supplied everything (goggles gloves and suit) we needed for protection except a face / neck covering or mask, but we researched ahead and brought some of our own. Definitely recommend grabbing something on Amazon for like $6 before you go!

Franklin, Jorge, and Ezekiel were all very friendly and experienced. Originally, this activity seemed dangerous. However, you can control the speed going down by using your heels to slow down or leaning back to go faster. My family and I had a bunch of fun doing this activity - I wish I went faster! Also, the volcano view was fantastic!

Well organised an attentive, we can heartly recommend this adventure including surfing the dust down the steep slope. Even for us retirees with medium fitness it was absolutely do- and enjoyable. It was windy but that helped against the heat when hiking up. In all for us a must do in a great scenery when in or near León

Best day ever is all I can say to describe this amazing private Leon City tour with Franklin for the 5 of us. He is so knowledgeable about the history of Leon and Nicaragua and speaks perfect English. The smoothies were a real surprise treat ❤️ He recommended the best place for lunch right in the city square with such a fun atmosphere. Then we headed for adventure to Cerros Negra for some Volcano Boarding in his nice air conditioned Land Cruiser. No need to even bring your cell phone because Franklin captures everything you need plus more and airdrops photos and videos at the end of the tour. He also had a nice surprise for us with fresh fruit and beverages after we finished sliding down the volcano. This by far was the best combination tour we have done. We felt like we were VIPs the whole day. Look no further and hire Franklin for your private tour. Thanks again Franklin!!

It was a really good hike and not too difficult. The views were sensational and Frankie made it so enjoyable with some music along the journey. He had so much knowledge of the land, volcanic activity and the surrounding areas.
The slide down at the end was daunting but so much fun!
I would highly recommend everyone to do this experience.

Franklin picked us up at our hotel, drove us out to the volcano in a comfortable van, the hike up the volcano took about 45 minutes and was a bit strenuous at times but the views were beautiful and it was totally worth it. Franklin gave each of us a light backpack to carry containing our goggles, gloves and overalls, while his staff carried the boards up. He explained the volcano boarding technique thoroughly and we all felt competent and safe, we were able to adjust our boarding speed to suit our comfort level. He also took tons of pictures and videos for us, and shared them all with us, plus he put together a short video containing all the highlights of our morning, including the hike, each of our volcano boarding runs and post-run cheers (Franklin also provided drinks and snacks afterwards) I would definitely recommend this excursion

He subido antes con personas con operación en la rodilla y lo han hecho sin problema.
Todo depende si la operación sucedió hace par de meses y has tenido el tiempo suficiente para recuperarte.

Is there a minimum/maximum age limit? We have 10-year olds and 70+. Is there another way to get down the volcano other than boarding for those who may not be able to do it?

Hi Jennifer, There is not a Minimum/Maximum age for this tour. However we recommend to have a moderate physical condition to do it. Yes, It is possible to walk down, jog down, run down. It is also fun that way.
Hi, I’m looking to book this tour just for myself, I’m fine being in a group with other people. Is there a minimum person requirement to book? Because I’m fine just tagging in with another group
