Guaranteed Sightings! 7 Seas Whale Watch is located in the heart of historic downtown Gloucester, MA and in one of the busiest parts of Gloucester harbor. As soon as you board the Privateer you will be surrounded by the sights and sounds of Gloucester’s working waterfront. You may see fishing boats unloading fish, lobster men baiting and setting their traps, and perhaps even some of our indigenous wildlife such as Harbor seals, Gray seals, and various species of birds. The tour begins with a harbor tour of Gloucester Harbor starting with Cape Pond Ice (which most of you have seen on Wicked Tuna and ends at the Dog Bar Breakwater. A typical trip is anywhere from 3-4 hours but may be extended if the whales move further out for feed. The Privateer IV was built for 300 passengers but we only book to 150 to ensure the comfort and safety of our passengers and is equipped with restrooms, and on-board food Galley and bar.

Great time seeing the whales and our tour guide had the best voice PA system and information regarding the whales...can't remember her name 🤔 she was awesome. If ever in the area again will definitely do this again...bucket list for us. Thanks for a great memory

Breaching whales next to the boat!! AMAZING!!!
Oct 2021
This is the second time I've been on the 7 Seas Whale Watching tour in the last 5 years. Both times we've seen so many whales. This time we got right up close and personal to a breaching whale. It was such a great experience. I took my niece and 2 nephews (ages 17, 13, and 10) and they were in awe... and they normally aren't thrilled about anything. Teenagers! Lol. They said it was their favorite thing we did the entire trip to the Salem area.
The captain, crew, and whale specialist were extremely friendly and provided a lot of interesting information about the animals you could see in the area. The boat was clean and didn't feel overcrowded because people were constantly moving, so we were able to get up close to the rail to see a bunch of times.
100% recommend! If I lived closer, we would go every year!

Whales galore
This was a totally awesome trip. We saw a group of two humpbacks and a group of three. Then we saw two adult humpbacks and one had a baby. The baby put on quite a show. I totally recommend this excursion. I would do this again!!

Amazing and magical!
We had an amazing time on the water! We saw a pod of 50 dolphins, 4 humpback whales and then a mama and calf humpback on the way back! The naturalist did a great job with the facts and what to expect. The captain did a great job positioning the boat so we could all see! Buy on groupon!

Wonderful whale watching adventure
Sep 2021
We really loved this trip to see a momma whale and her youngster on the Stellwagen Bank. The snacks were good. The drinks were good. We really spent lots of time watching the whales feed. We were also lucky to see a group of dolphins on our way in. The naturalist was very interesting and informative and a great speaker.

Bet you'll see whales!!

Fun day on the water. Saw at least 6 individual humpback whales close to the boat. Captured some great photos. Matt was our resident biologist and narrator. He did a terrific job educating us on whales, explaining the history of global whale research, and Gloucester's contributions. He came around personally to answer any questions!
My husband, myself, and our 27 year old daughter recommend this tour!

Whales Everywhere
The boat is comfortable, the staff is pleasant and extremely knowledgeable making for an enjoyable few hours.
While there are no guarantees, the captain knew where to go to give us the best chance to see the whales. We enjoyed our time watching a mother and calf dive and swim alongside the boat
And on the way back we discovered a school of dolphins.
Brought back lots of pictures and memories. Thanks!

Amazing experience
My husband and I had a wonderful trip. We got to see whales the entire time we reached the area to view. It was an incredible experience. The staff on board were very knowledgeable and made the experience even better! We got lucky and even saw whales breach the surface multiple times!

How far in advance should I book this? couple days or weeks?

That depends on the time of the year. We booked a couple of days in advance but we were there in the early part of the season. If you’re sure you want to go book early just in case. Our boat was almost full.

do you get a refund if you don't see any whales????

No. No whale watching or any other tour can guarantee you're going to see something in nature. They do their best to locate the whale pods and to hope you get a sighting. We were lucky - we got to see a pod of 5 whales, some dolphins and seals!
