About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- SupremeRulerOTU0 contributionsA Nice Tour of Two Falls (and more)!Beautiful river sites on this tour. Waterfalls, a suspension bridge, and more! Pros: - A nice day trip to see some of the natural beauty of the area. - Nice views at the top and bottom of the Athirappilly falls. enjoy the mist from the falls from the bottom. - Lots of monkeys at the Athirappilly falls. But beware, they are greedy and try to steal any food you have, whether an ice cream from your hand or foods from a tote bag. - A pleasant stop at a suspension bridge over the river. Beautiful views, places to relax on both sides of the river, and a nice break from the car ride. - Vazhachal falls and a third (if water is flowing) are nice as well, even if visible only from an observation area. - Very good lunch in a nice resort restaurant. - The guide/driver took us via the forest, offering a chance to see wild elephants. (Although we didn't spot any, just some evidence they were there!) - The fact the tour was all-inclusive (except for tips) was great! Cons: - It's a long car ride to and from, over mostly rough roads. - To access Athirappilly falls, it's a moderate hike. The hike down to the base (and back up) is more challenging, so just be aware that moderate athletic ability is needed to see the falls! - Despite signs warning of fines, lots of people throwing trash on the ground especially at the falls. You'd think the park management would take a lounging staff member at the front gate and assign them to scold litterers. Summary: A nice trip outside the city. Be sure to stop as often as possible to see as much as possible. It breaks up the trip and makes the car time more rewarding!Written August 16, 2024
- wildwolfw0 contributionsWe expected English speaking guides.Lovely boat and scenery and the onboard lunch was fantastic. The only negative was that English speaking guides were advertized and none of the boat crew spoke English. As birdwatchers, the onus was on us to provide commentary to the other passengers.Written March 10, 2024
- Tulika_sac0 contributionsUnprofessionalVery unprofessional and unresponsive agency. Stopped communicating once we confirmed the trip. Unfortunately, our 12 trip had to be changed after 2 days due to medical reasons but not only they refused to reconcile amount we paid (we paid 100%) but they didn't respond to any email, phone call or messages requesting reconciliation. Plus was the driver (Vishnu) we gad for first 2 days, he was very helpful, courteous and caring.Written January 29, 2024
- Z6190IRstephenb0 contributionsDo it yourself and save time and moneyThis was a very poorly executed trip. Either the driver had no idea what our itinerary was or it was a good act. We were promised: 1. A mid size car … it was tiny. 2. Tickets included … we had to pay for them ourselves. This was only 200 rupees per person. 3. Bottled water … had to buy our own. 4. Lunch at 4 star hotel … driver offered for us to get out and buy some lunch from a roadside stall … we got our lunch as promised after complaining and significant delays. This was at Casa Rio and food was good and would have cost around 6 euros each. 5. Vazhachal Falls - driver was 20 minutes on way home when we realised that he was going the wrong way so we made him turn around. This probably added 2 hours to the trip. We had to complain loudly about paying for a trip and not getting what was supposed to be included. The boss said he would refund us our out of pocket costs but haven’t heard boo from him. He has had 48 hours to respond and hasn’t so my review is scathing (and deserves to be). The day took close to 8 hours … there is no way they can do it in 6 hours unless you don’t go to the bottom of the Athirappilly Falls. This is a really expensive way to see the waterfalls. Highly recommend either hiring your own driver or getting an Uber and set your own itinerary and lunch destination. We paid 124 euros when the whole trip could have been done for 40 euros and saved us a lot of aggravation. Don’t book this trip!!Written December 29, 2023
- Resort481572713470 contributionsMesmerizing Experience !Kerala backwater day tour was a mesmerizing experience. the houseboat was comfortable and clean, offering a delightful ride through the canals and lakes. Authentic Kerala cuisine onboard was a delightful bonus. The knowledgeable staff added depth to the journey, sharing insights about the local culture and ecology. A must-do for anyone visiting KeralaWritten October 27, 2023
- NorthStar523420770680 contributionsA tour to dream of: ATHIRAPILLY WATERFALLMr. Anoop of Saffron India Tuor was very professional in the promotion and booking of the day trip. Mr Jojia, our driver, was great and he took us in an amazing place: ATHIRAPPILLY waterfall. Many happy people swimming and enjoying the water. A MUST-SEE placeWritten May 26, 2023
- AshMo0 contributionsGreat boathouse tour!My parents were traveling through South India and the boathouse was one thing that they really wanted to do. I had booked the trip quite last minute and believe me, they enjoyed everyyyyyy minute of it! Great and clean both and delicious food! And the best part, they had the whole boat to themselves, with no other attendees. Also the driver, Anoop, who picked them up from the hotel was really great. If we ever come back as a family I will definitely book with them again.Written May 3, 2023

- 378binat0 contributionsKerala Backwaters and Munnar a must in KeralaWe arranged 2 separate trips with Saffron. 1 was a day trip on the Backwaters. My husband and I had a boat to ourselves. The trip on the boat was beautiful...our guide stopped off at a small village where we got fresh shrimp that the cook on board cooked for us. The view on the backwaters was stunning with lots of different birds. We stopped later in the afternoon to have lunch which the cook had prepared fresh on the boat. Highly recommend this day trip. The 2nd trip was 2 days in Munnar the hill station. We spen 1 night at the Amber Dale hotel. The staff at the hotel were great especially Nishad and Roshan. The tea plantations and scenery in Munnar were breath taking. We took a tour at the tea factory which was very interesting. Saffron tours did a great job with guides, drivers and hotels.Written March 14, 2023
- Anton L0 contributionsBook elsewhereThe waterfalls were really beautiful, but this tour itself is not something we would recommend. The driver didn’t speak much English, so it was not a guided tour as he couldn’t say much about the places we visited. He sat in the car while we went to see the waterfalls. The ticket to get in the park costs 200 rupees per person, so we think this tour can be done much cheaper, if you hire a cab instead. We did not get any water or private guide as promised in the tour description. Even though Indians honk a lot, the driver honked so much you couldn’t go 30 seconds without him honking to the radio music or to nothing at all. It also took 2-3 hours longer than we were told. All in all a disappointing tour.Written February 21, 2023
- Tenzin_17930 contributionsFantastic ⛴️⚓️🏝️It was amazing! Food was delicious. Service was fantastic. I would highly recommend this tour to my family and friends! I will also be visiting Kerala in the near future. Thanks for the great experience.Written January 24, 2023

- jazmntom0 contributionsA memorable Houseboat trip which we will cherish foreverThis was our first experience in a houseboat. Have heard a lot about houseboats but never experienced till now. Happy that the trip went well and it was a wonderful experience. We really enjoyed the beauty of kerala backwaters. Food served was awesome. Had a chance to taste the spices rich curries and rice along with the unique star of kerala which is the Karimeen fry. Prawns was also very tasty. Most i liked in the trip is the toddy and the ride through the small canals. Thank you anopp for arranging such a memorable trip. By the way the honeymoon cake was a big surprise and really touched our heart. Will defenitely come back for sure.Written November 18, 2022
- Tanushree1234560 contributionsReally DisappointedIts waste of time and money. Package was described for 7-8 hours but booking was 3:5 hours only and didn't provide a backwater tour rather but a run around the lake. Food was totally cold and less tasty. Even they had not served the snakes because they were in rush to end . It was really disappointed. AVOID this tour operator at all cost.Written November 5, 2022

Reading the reviews we expected a wonderful tour, alas that wasn’t what we received. We didn’t get 4 of the items on the schedule. The national park is closed every year for February and March so if planning to go you won’t be able to in those months and Saffron Tours know this but don’t advise, they still leave it on the schedule. In the early part of the year the waterfalls are nonexistent but again they know but don’t advise, 2 other elements we weren’t taken to and only realised when checking at the end of the day. We did enjoy the tea museum and of course the wonderful scenery but 5 hours in a car with the ‘interesting’ driving style was not the best.
The 3 nights hotel accommodation were fab with great pools, clean rooms and very caring staff but these hotels exist without Saffron Tours. The actual hotels though were great.
The backwaters are so peaceful and it’s great to watch the world glide by but you literally sail away from the start point for max 1 1/2 hours then stop for lunch and sail back to the start point which has a new bridge being built and pile driving going on late into the night. You are moored up cheek by Jowel with all the other boats and there are hundreds of them so it’s not the restful image you are given, even 2 of the staff members go home rather than staying on the boat overnight.
You pay for top class service with Saffron Tours but receive a third rate one so personally I’d not recommend them as they lied to us.
In fairness I brought issues to their attention and the apologised and after 3 weeks I got a small percentage back as an apology but I could have organised a driver and booked hotels and boat myself for half the cost.
Either try another tour operator or book it yourself or wait until you are in India where there are loads and loads of tour operators offering such 3 or 4 or even 5 night schedules depending on what you want. Please if you use Saffron Tours manage your expectations downwards.
Last point most of the attractions are very popular so there are tacky stalls selling cheap plastic toys and random tat which again was a bit of a surprise no locally produced hand made items to be seen 🤷♂️

We visited some wonderful places on the tour, the hotels were of a good standard, and our driver was very reliable and friendly.
Unfortunately we had so many problems communicating with Saffron prior to the trip (they failed to respond to emails, WhatsApp and phone calls), that it was quite stressful, particularly as we had already paid.
It is also worth noting that the driver is not a guide, and if you don't speak Malayalam/Hindi, it may be difficult to get information about the history, culture etc of the places you visit.

Saffron Tours was exceptional. They were organized, knowledgeable, and responsive to our needs. The itinerary they crafted showcased the best of Kerala, from the tranquil backwaters to the vibrant cities. Accommodations were comfortable and premium segments, he transportation was reliable and the chauffeur mr.rajesh was well behaved. Their attention to detail and commitment to ensuring a memorable experience made our Kerala tour truly special. Will surely refer to our friends who all are visiting India.

We absolutely loved Kerala. Doing the tour was a great way to see many things without the stress of organizing or coordinating all of the logistics. It was incredibly organized, and the staff was very attentive and accommodating to our needs and preferences. The car for moving between cities was a great idea, and our driver, Mr. Jojan, was super friendly, accommodating, professional and a very good driver. The hotels were all superb, incredibly clean and with fantastic service. We loved Munnar, the tea plantations, Thekkady and the boat ride in Periyar. We highly recommend this tour, and will be recommending it to any friends who are travelling through Kerala.

I had an amazing time thanks to Saffron tours! The tea plantations around Munnar, jungle safari and wild elephant spotting in Thekkady, backwater boating in Kumarakom, and exploring Kochi - all these experiences were truly wonderful! Thank you!
Also, very good organising skills from the tour company, as they managed to upgrade me just one day before the tour, and booked every hotel room with a panoramic view! I can recommend this tour to everyone who would like to explore Kerala!

This was my first trip to kerala and it was a memorable one. Amazing people, nice hotels and beautiful location. What i liked most is i got an opportunity to customise the package. Instead of thekkady i chose cochin. Currently I am at Nihara Resort in cochin and this is the last day of my trip. A very nice resort with a beautiful view of lake. Im super amazed to see a wonderful resort in cochin and that too very near to the city center. The ambience of the resort made me to write a review on the last day itself. Munnar hotel was also excellent with nice climate. Alleppey Houseboat was also excellent. Have seen it only in pictures and was a different experience when we saw it in real. And finally my Big Thanks to the whole team of Saffron India Tours for arranging such a nice trip. Will definitely come back again.
