- 1Wasgamuwa National Park is a dry zone park which is home to over 150 floral species, many of them endemic. The park also houses 23 species of mammals and over 140 species of birds. The number of reptile species is not low either. The park is especially popular for its elephant herds that you may see especially in the evenings. The Marsh elephant is a subspecies only seen near the Mahaveli River. You may also get to see two of the endemic monkey species found in Sri Lanka, or water buffalo, or even the rare sloth bear or golden palm civet. Some of the bird species that you may see are the endemic red-faced malkoha and the Sri Lankan junglefowl. You could also catch an elusive look at colorful peafowl, a painted stork, a black-headed ibis or even a Sri Lankan frogmouth. - ScenicLanka0 contributionsThe Authentic Charm of Sigiriya VillageAs a tour guide, I’ve had the privilege of guiding guests through many of Sri Lanka’s stunning destinations, but the Sigiriya Village tour always stands out as a truly enriching experience. This particular tour offers a unique opportunity to showcase the authentic Sri Lankan village lifestyle and the natural beauty that surrounds the historic Sigiriya region. From the very start, the peaceful walk through the rice paddies immediately captures the essence of rural life here. As a guide, it’s always rewarding to see guests’ faces light up when they take in the expansive green fields and hear the sounds of nature all around. It’s a tranquil contrast to the busier tourist areas, allowing everyone to slow down and truly absorb the environment. The highlight for many, and for me as well, is the traditional catamaran ride on Sigiriya Lake. Guiding guests through the serene waters with the breathtaking view of Sigiriya Rock in the distance is always a magical experience. It’s not just about the sights—it’s also the quiet moments when guests can immerse themselves in the peacefulness of the lake, away from the crowds. One of the most rewarding aspects of the Sigiriya Village tour is the interaction with the local community. As a guide, I love facilitating these connections. Taking guests into a local home, where they are greeted with warm hospitality, is an authentic cultural exchange. It’s heartwarming to see guests engage with the villagers, whether it's through cooking, sharing stories, or learning about traditional farming methods. The smiles and gratitude from both sides show how travel can truly bring people together. For me, this tour is about more than just sightseeing—it’s about offering guests a deeper understanding of the local way of life, something they might not get to experience on a standard tour. It’s also a reminder of the importance of preserving these cultural experiences for future generations. The Sigiriya Village tour continues to be one of my favorite experiences to guide, and it’s always a joy to see how much it resonates with the guests I host. If you’re looking for a meaningful tour in Sri Lanka, one that connects you with nature, culture, and the heart of local life, the Sigiriya Village tour is the perfect choice!Written September 28, 2024
- 688garyn0 contributionsLong and bumpy with an amazing climax. We arrived at the elephant zone at 2pm , 1hour before the other 20 jeeps because their tour doesn’t begin till 3pm where this 6hr tour begun at 10:30am. This was a tremendous advantage to see a herd of 20 elephants in a truly tranquil and beautiful setting. Make sure the tour get you to the elephants by 2pm. Be aware however that the downside of this 6hr tour is 3 hours of tedious scrubland along spine jarring bumpy trails to see a few animals you will see anywhere. The point is you don’t get deeper in to the park and see more elephants for the additional 3hrs. First you get a pretty lake with some birds and water buffalo. Then you visit one small wetland with flocks of ibis. Stalks, pelicans. Then you arrived at the same elephants as other tours , but at 2pm. Maybe ask the driver to drop two hours off the tour and miss the lake section, pretty as it was, because the additional scrubland drive was long and spine jarring. Arriving at the elephants well before other afternoon tours at 2pm, made this tour a good choice.Written September 26, 2024
- Zack G0 contributionsAn amazing way to see elephants in the wild.An amazing experience! We saw so many beautiful elephants roaming free in the nature park. They even walked past our car a couple times so we got to see them right up close. Our guide Asela was incredible too who knew all the best places to see the elephants and taught us a lot about them and the other animals that live there. Highly recommended.Written September 23, 2024
- 5aleksandern0 contributionsA great safariWe took an amazing safari with very friendly and professional crew- everything started with great contact and setup with Dhanushka, who was just lovely, and a pickup from Arugam Bay by Priyantha who drove us around the park in his tough jeep. We’ve seen it all- birds, water buffalos, elephants, even a leopard! We highly recommend this trip to anyone 👌🏻Written September 17, 2024

We saw so many elephants 🐘 really close up which was amazing!! Both our driver and the safari guide were really nice people, both stoped to show us sights on the way to the park and throughout the safari. Highly recommend!Written September 15, 2024

- lelelelelelelle0 contributionsAmazing experience with seeing SL wildlifeWe really enjoyed our trip to Wilpattu and were glad we went with a guide. The company was also able to arrange a private transfer to the park for us at our request. At the beginning of the Safari our guide explained that it is not always possible to see a leopard which we appreciated as we entered the day with the right expectation. We got to see a lot of wildlife including a crocodile, bear, mongoose, toucans, buffalo, eagles, monitor lizards and more. We had a wild elephant come up to our jeep within about 5 metres. Our guide was particularly good at spotting/identifying birds and even though our package was supposed to only include water he brought fresh cut fruit and other snacks for us.Written September 3, 2024

The driver was on time, very friendly and even showed us a local herbal garden on the way to the National Park which was quite interesting. Our Jeep driver and guide in the national park was also very friendly and attentive, and showed us the hidden birds, lizzards and crocodiles throuthough the tour. And of course, we saw a lot of elephants 🐘👌🏼Written August 29, 2024

Definitely recommend it!It was a great experience, the driver was really attentive, stoped to show us every kind of animal and was really patient, stopping for as long as we wanted to appreciate the view and take pictures. The trip lasted even more time that was expected ,due to his kindness and patient. On our way back the team provided us watermelon and water was also provided during the trip. The price was really competitive when compared with other safari programs.Written August 25, 2024
