Glorious old mansions in Old Louisville are a must to see.
After a year’s absence due to Covid The Old Louisville Holiday Home Tour is back. We look forward to seeing these beautiful mansions every year. It’s simply amazing to see these gorgeous old homes restored to their former glory. This year there were 8 homes on the tour within a 3-4 block radius including the crown jewel of the neighborhood-The Conrad-Caldwell House. In fact one of the homes(a bed & breakfast) will offer a sample of bourbon for tour goers. Remember it’s always offered on the first Saturday and Sunday of December and the hours are 12-5pm.

A great way to learn the local history of downtown Louisville!
Guide was great - super knowledgeable about architectural styles and home origins. Our group was small so she was easy to hear and talk to. I definitely would recommend this tour for anyone. An easy route and pace for all fitness levels and wheels like scooters or strollers.

      St. James Court Art Show
The first weekend in October is the tremendous crafts & art show. There were at least 650 craftsmen from the area presenting their handicrafts. We saw: metal & glass works, paintings, pens, sculptures, jewelry, fragrances, textiles, pottery, housewares…. There were portable potties & food vendors. We found street parking, there were lots charging $20. The backdrop to the beautiful show were the large beautiful brick Victorian homes & gardens. The fountain & park were also attractive.

      Nice neighborhood walking tours!
You can take a nice tour of the area from the visitor's center. It was probably 6 blocks total. I appreciated the different architectural style and the chance to see the city in a different way. The tour guide has a lot of energy and knowledge about the area. I do think that the tour could go a bit more in depth about the architectural styles, but it is a good primer to the area.

      Old Historic Louisville
Amazing! Best of the best in the country. Nothing like it. Absolutely worth going. We did the annual Christmas home tours offered for only $30.00 a person and toured 8 homes. Full of tons of old world charm and character. The master craftsmen that designed these homes make these magnificent places a dream to be a part of. Like walking back in time.

      Some amazing homes!
You start with the castle which is amazing and see a variety, from over the top magnificent collections to simple buthome. Many stairs so be ready to hike!

      Great Tour and Info
I love history and home tours. This one was so much fun. We covered several blocks of historic Old Louisville and stopped and many homes. This tour was so fun, full of history and stories (new and old). I highly recommend making a reservation, showing up on time and joining the fun!!

      Visitor center disappointing
The Old Louisville Visitor Center is located in Central Park with parking on neighborhood streets and short walk to building. We tried to make the 11 o’clock tour but were ten minutes late and thought we might pay and catch up to them but the center was closed. We couldn’t even get a brochure for the self guided walking tour. It seems if they are going to lock the place they might leave out a few maps for visitors. We decided to explore the neighborhood on our own but first visited the bathrooms which were on the outside of the visitor center. This was a mistake as they were totally disgusting and filthy. The stench was awful and there was debris/trash inside and toilets backed up in the ladies. We left without using them as they didn't feel safe and not one stall was clean. We walked down St. James and found Belgravia Court which was really nice and peaceful. Then we drove over to fourth and parked and walked up the streets looking a lovely historical homes. A lot of them had dates on them and some were being restored. This review would have been a one for the center being closed and horrid bathrooms but the lovely homes brought it up to a three. We were glad we took the time though to visit the area.

      Loved this tour!
My mom and I (a grown woman) came down to Louisville for a girls weekend and are big fans of history and architecture, so we decided to do an 11am tour with Kelly around Old Louisville. The homes and areas we saw (St James, Belgravia, 3rd Street) were absolutely gorgeous and we learned a ton about the history of Old Louisville as well as about architecture- Kelly was super knowledgeable! I highly recommend this tour to any history buffs that visit Louisville and we would absolutely do it again. Kudos!

      Great historical homes
We took the afternoon historical homes tour which starts from the park. The guide was very good and we got a great lesson on architecture as well. I agree that you must see this area mid-afternoon for even we were harassed by the homeless while on the tour especially when we were more than a couple blocks from St James to the west.

The true, the bad, and the ugly
It is a beautiful neighborhood, latent with crime. If you leave your car unlocked for a few minutes, or, God Forbid, a night, you will be robbed. Is this really how you want to live?

This older neighborhood is truly beautiful. Drive through slowly and gander at the amazing homes and small yards.

      Wonderful old houses
Visiting here during our road trip we were pleasantly surprised to walk around the historic district and found excellent bars and ice-cream parlours.

The tour was wonderful. Erica, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the different types of architecture. There is also a commercial tour, but I would recommend this over that one as it is cheaper, probably better, and the money goes to the historical association. The tour lasted an hour and a half even though it said an hour, so a bonus 30 minutes. I highly recommend it.

My wife and I scheduled this tour on a vacation we took to Louisville. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the area (I think she was also a teacher) and was able to answer the multitude of questions we had. We love these styles of housing and certain properties had an amazing history. When we visit the area again, we will definitely go on another tour from this company.

Thank you for the education and stroll through a very historic area of Louisville!

The Victorian house tour was the highlight of our visit to Louisville. Erica was our guide, her knowledge of the homes was incredible. Not only is she smart but also funny and very charismatic. We would highly recommend this to anyone interested in the history of older homes and their architecture.

This personal and engaging tour comes with a 50-page guide book with maps and photos. The area you are in was the 1883-1887 Southern Exposition. The houses come is a wide variety of styles but the surprise of the tour is the elegant St. James Court and the equally elegant Belgravia Court. The houses here face a gardened esplanade with sidewalks. It is one of the loveliest "developments" one will ever see. Our tour guide was excellent; a one hour tour became two. Be aware: This is NOT the Louisville Visitor Center. This hard to find place is IN Central Park. Don't rely on GPS. The tour begins at a building near the tennis courts.

Like other reviews, we thoroughly enjoyed this educational tour of some of the outstanding houses in Old Louisville. Jasmine was our personable tour guide, and her knowledge of the architecture and history of the homes was impressive. It was a beautiful morning, but on a hot day you might want to pack a water bottle!

I thought the tour was fun and worthwhile. The tourguide, Kelly, was excited about the old mansions and traditional character of the area that she told me about (yes, I was the only person on the tour that day) and the hour passed by seemingly very quickly. I would recommend this tour for anyone staying in Louisville.

This tour was very interesting and fun. Our tour guide clearly explained the homes by their history, style, and added some personal “notes.” It was a beautiful day and nice walk around the area. It was obvious our tour guide was not only knowledgeable, but passionate about what she does. Definitely worth doing while in the area.

This was an impressive tour that exceeded expectations. The Old Louisville area is beautiful with grand homes of the late 1800’s. We had a nice walk shaded by mature trees. Our tour guide was extremely well informed, knowing so much about the original owners and stylistic architecture of each home. It’s definitely worth checking out.
