- howy9620 contributionsUnforgettable Snorkeling with an Amazing Guide, Despite Some MisstepsI had an incredible time snorkeling in the Silfra Crack in Iceland. The experience was breathtaking, and Nicholas, our guide, was absolutely amazing—knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole adventure unforgettable. Unfortunately, the experience was slightly marred by a British woman who helped with some of the logistics. Her attitude was quite belittling, making my friends and me uncomfortable. It seemed like she was annoyed by our lack of experience, which put a damper on things. However, Nicholas more than made up for it with his kindness and professionalism. Overall, I loved every second when Nicholas was leading us, and I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor!Written September 7, 2024

- asterizk0 contributionsIceland was amazing, and Siggi was a great ambassadorIceland was amazing, and Troll's 6-day minibus tour lead by the effervescent Siggi made sure we had the best possible experience. He's like a viking come to life! He's joyful, kind, and passionate. The world's biggest Celine Dion fan! A great driver also. At no point did we feel rushed, and Siggi even managed to find an extra pair of hiking boots when my wife unexpectedly found her Blundstones falling apart. We saw so many wonderful Icelandic sites: glaciers, waterfalls, lava fields, geysers, ram sorting (!), ice caves, icebergs, icelandic horses, black sand beaches, rugged coastlines, lighthouses, geothermal sites, the world's loneliest shower, whales, and amazing views of the Milky Way. We ended up doing the optional Vök baths in part because of Siggi's enthusiasm for them ("By the end of the night you'll be medium rare!") and we're so glad we did. Also really enjoyed the lobster pizza at Ósinn Restaurant in Höfn, another Siggi recommendation. We did not end up seeing the Northern Lights, but could have: Siggi made a point of pointing out where on our tour we were likely to see them, and on one night when he discovered they were occurring, he notified us via our group chat (it was ~11:30pm and my wife and I had already fallen asleep, but some of our bus-mates were still awake and saw them). Would definitely come back, and would seek out Siggi if we did!Written September 6, 2024
- danielvY8655LB0 contributionsDon't use this companyDo not use this company. My wife and I went there last week for a 5 hour expedition tour in the glacier and when we arrived at the site, we were told our names were in the list twice, but not to worry they were going to let their office know there was a double booking error, before we left at the end of the tour we had the same conversation with them and they advised not to worry they had spoken to the office, to just send them an email an explain what happened. When we arrived back home we checked the credit card statement and yes we were booked twice, we contacted them and that's when their true colors came out, first they tried to treat the issue as we were going to cancel after the date, then they tried saying we had booked thru a travel agent, then that they were not aware of the issue and the people on site don't know anything about bookings, then that they didn't have our money because we used a third party vendor and provided an email for this vendor, so I replied all parties involved and she (Anna) answered removing him , when I answered back asking about it and telling her the best way to resolve the issue was all the parties involved copied in the communications, she denied removing them but kept insisting she didn't had our funds until the end of the month and she can't refund us. The website for the Islandic tours (third party vendor)replied that they had checked the transaction and it indeed looked like it was booked twice, to quote them exactly: It appears the booking was made through the widget from Bokun that is integrated on our website. We didn't take any action on this booking, but it seems there was a double booking- the client is indeed booked twice for the same tour. This seems to be a clear mistake, and in my opinion, it would be fair to offer a refund. However, since we cannot process a refund if you are going to charge us for it, the final decision rest with you. After this last communication, no further responses from Anna /Troll Expeditions, luckily for us we used American Express and we don't have to wait for Anna to do the fair thing.Written September 6, 2024

I booked this tour during my Iceland trip about two weeks ago. I accidentally booked the wrong date and showed up a day late. Boris was my guide and he went above and beyond and called the central office and I got to go on my tour to the glacier!
The hike was awesome and the views were National Geographic worthy. Boris was very professional and funny and eager to answer any and all questions about virtually anything.
I felt very safe with Boris as my guide while doing all the adventure stuff like jumping across crevasses and his instruction on the crampons was very clear. If you want to walk on a glacier, get epic pictures to make all your friends jealous, have lots of fun and have the best guide I can highly recommend Boris and this company!

We had an awesome time on the Falljökull Glacier. First, we got outfitted with crampons, climbing harness and an ice axe (that we only needed for pictures) at the Skaftafell Terminal, then we drove to the glacier. On our way up, our guide, Franzy, explained many things about the glacier, about the way she had witnessed climate change first hand with ice caves collapsing, the glacier receeding. While doing that, she also explained how to use our gear, we got to try the ice screw, and she led us very close to the magnificent ice fall of the glacier. So see this from afar gives you a whole new appreciation for Everest expeditions with the hike through the Khumbu icefall. All in all it was a great way to spend our time in Skaftafell. Franzy was even kind enough to recommend a lot of places to visit on our continued road trip through Iceland.

Gustavo was a great guide who explained everything well, made us feel safe and answered everyone’s questions (in multiple languages!). It was slightly harder than I expected to get used to the crampons but by the end it felt easy. Would definitely recommend waterproof coat and trousers, but they have them for hire if you don’t have any. The glacier itself was like nothing I’ve ever seen before and it was so special to see it up close. At the start of the hike it felt like there was quite a lot of people but as we were doing the longer option you soon felt like you were the only people up there.

This tour was amazing! If you've never hiked a glacier before this is the place to do it, with the scenic Icelandic mountains in the background and excellent guides. Our guide Franzy was very knowledgeable and fun - she really went out of her way to make sure everyone had an excellent time. The glacier itself is a sort of other-worldly place, with crevasses, streams, ridges and waterfalls; definitely a unique experience I'd recommend to anyone visiting Iceland.

The idea of five seniors hiking up a steep hill to get close to a volcano sounds a bit insane. Yet, we set off, struggled a bit on the climb, got to the top and experienced nature showing off. The lava flows, the rapid changes, and the sheer beauty and power of the crater lighting up with each lava outburst is something we will remember the rest of our lives!
Our guide was Cora and we really couldn’t have done this without her expert help. She explained the different routes up, advised us on climbing techniques both up and down, and had nothing but encouraging words. Perhaps best of all, even though she has seen the volcano many times before she seemed to be as enthralled as we were each step of the way. We couldn’t have been more pleased!

An incredible adventure. Something we’ve never done before and will never do again. Our Guide was Boris. He took us on an amazing “walk” around the glacier, gave us a lesson in geology, ecology and climate change. There were seven of us in his group and he did a good job of assessing our capabilities so that we could get the most out of our hike. Thank you Boris from your Boston fans.

Couldn’t recommend this enough. The guide was so awesome, incredibly knowledgeable about the glacier, filling the group with the confidence needed to explore high up into the Glacier. He even went to the effort to set up an abseil to give us a better view into a huge crevace waterfall. Experience of a lifetime, well worth the money.

The 5-hour glacier tour was the perfect length for getting higher up the glacier away from the rest of the groups and getting some amazing views of the steeper part of the glacier. Our guide Boris was very knowledgeable, showed us some cool things on the tour (you need to try the 'Viking pushup!'), and was just a nice guy to talk to overall. Iceland is renowned for its glaciers and I recommend everyone to get up close and personal with one through this tour!

This tour was perfect for me and my parents to explore a bit the glacier of iceland. The tour was great organized, the material, which we rented was really good and useful and our guide Franzy was very friendly and patient. We felt save from the first second. Furthermore she gave us many information and told us different stories about the glacier and the people, who live in Iceland. We also had enough time to take pictures, we hiked far enough up the glacier to get a idea of the hole thing and the size of the group was perfect, to get in touch each other and also to go on fast enough.
All in all we had such a great time and we really recommend this tour. The price is worth it.
Cheers

Would 200% recommend the 5 hour Glacier Hike at Skaftafell!! We went up far on the glacier - which was possible due to the “longer duration of 5 hours”. The walk was absolutely beautiful and we saw an ice cave, crevasses and more (remember to pack some lunch for up the glacier). Our guide, Boris, brilliantly led the expedition and was very knowledgeable about the glacier and Iceland in general. He answered our many questions happily and brought the right dose of humour to the tour as well! Would recommend this tour to everyone!

Hi my parents are in their 50s. My mom has knee issues so don't think she will come with us. My father is otherwise healthy, but just trying to ascertain if my father can tolerate it. Thank u!

Hi, just wanted to see if going into an ice cave was also a part of this tour? Thank you!

I was worried whether the trip will take lots of physical stress? Will that be too exhaust to complete the tour?
Written May 16, 2019
It is a long upwards hike and you will be walking in crampons which will be strenuous on your ankles. Go slow (especially to be safe because it can be dangerous -the ice is very slippery) and you will be fine. You won't be too exhausted.

I am just beginning to plan a trip with my 16 year old grandson. How far is Skaftafell from Reykjavik? What is suggested transportation to get there?
Written January 16, 2019
From what I remember, it was a good 4.5 hour drive. I would highly recommend that you rent a vehicle if you have someone in your family that is confident driving long hours, and in darkness. The roads get very dark when you're travelling around the more uninhabited areas, especially during this time of the year (Winter). If you don't feel comfortable driving such long hours (especially after hiking activities in Skaftafell, wherein you will be very tired for sure), look into bus services. It is just good to remember to be timely about being at the meeting point, as time and sunlight are valuable.
Feel free to ask anything else you may need!
