        Great experience
I had a great time at Mikango Safari! I was able to see a lot of different animals even though I was only there for two days (I highly recommend staying for more than two). Andrew was friendly and knowledgeable about everything - animals, birds, and plants. The food and lodging were excellent as well. The staff was kind enough to get up ridiculously early in the middle of the thunderstorm to make sure I got to the bus station in time for my 3:30am departure. Highly recommend!

Very Affordable Zambia Bush Safari Experience
Apparently I was the first guest at Mikango Safari to enjoy their new river front bush camp on the Luangwa River near Kakumbi Zambia. The location is fantastic, a once in a life opportunity to be right on the river filled with hundreds of hippos. It is in the bush, but surprisingly close enough to town to get phone signals. The best of both worlds! At this location, do not be surprised to see elephants or giraffes walk right by the camp, at any time of day. I expereinced both, during a 4 night stay. In fact, the elephants tend to cross the river twice a day, and to see this up close and personal is amazing. The hippos make all sorts of communication sounds 24/7 and it is so fun watching/hearing them. The usually come onland at night, but the camp is very safe with no worries there. Besides the hippos, the river is full of large crocs, so it's not ready for swimming! Leopards roam the woods on the other side of the camp. Besides the incrediable location, Mikango provides 2 safaris a day in near by national parks with you can hope to see 4 of the big 5. Unfortunately Rhinos were poached out in the 1980s. Just be aware that there is a daily park fee for each vechicle, and this is not included in the Mikango Safari price. Otherewise, all meals are provided, and I found the food quite good. Wine was included at dinner, and snacks and cokes provided during the safaris. Andrew is a native local Zambian, and takes his business as safari operator very seriously. He is very knowledgeable of the local animals, and is strongly committed to preserving the safari landscape in and around his camps. I did not have a chance to visit the walled structure that is available vs the bush camp, but personally I enjoyed the bush camp and if you are into nature, I am sure you would as well. The folks taking care of you heat water for warm showers. There are some solar lamps for the night, and all around a great bush safari experience. The best part of this safari was its affordability! This area has traditionally been a very expensive area for safaris, but Mikango has brought the cost down to where 2 folks, or a family of 4 can very much afford it. Luxury it is not, but if your looking for a comfortable Zambian bush experience at a reasonable price, Mikango and Andrew are your game!

        Stay from 2019 August 15 - 19 A fantastic experience
Andrew is a fantastic guide. Te stay in his logde was super, his guiding in the park amazing. Food is the best! Breakfast with a view of crocs and hippos is unique. Andrew's guiding in the park is the best: his knowledge is stunning. Comfortable and cheap. I wish Andrew and his staff all the best from the Netherlands.

        Zambia's best affordable safari
Truly an incredible experience for my family and I, and at a very affordable price. Our guide Andrew was incredibly knowledgeable, spoke perfect English and was so attentive to our needs (and fears!). We did six four hour safaris by 4X4 Landcruiser with him, deep into the African bush and saw every animal imaginable (lions, leopards, too many giraffes and elephants to count...incredible. His deep experience growing up in the area and his easy going nature put us all at ease, and his love for wildlife has left a lasting impact on my children, my wife and I. The highlight of our trip without question.

Mikango Safari was the highlight of our 20 day Africa trip!
This must be the best affordable safari in Zambia by far. Andrew Banda, owner of Mikango Safari was my family's guide for our very first safari in Zambia's amazing South Luangwa National Park. Since I was born and raised in the USA (where these animals live in zoos!) I didn't know quite what to expect and my kids were a little afraid. From the moment we met him, Andrew's whole demeanor put us all at ease. He is incredibly knowledgeable, very funny, respectful, instantly likeable and genuine. His love for nature and for the amazing animals left a lasting impact on myself and my family--it was unquestionably the highlight of our trip to Africa. --George, California, USA

My Safari with Mikango Safaris was truly amazing: in just 4 game drives along 3 days I was and to see, and at close range, 4 of the "Big 5": Lions (on 3 occasions, at close range and following a night hunting raid), Elephants (even in front of the camp, crossing the river), Leopard (including the rare sight of cub with his mother!) and Buffalos! Not to mention Hypos, Giraffes, Zebras, Warthogs, African fishing eagle, crocodiles, Impalas, Kudo, Puku, Carmine bee eaters, baboons, Ibis, etc.
As a Guide, Andrew seems to have a 6th sense, as he always knew where to find the animals! Shilton, the spotter was also exceedingly committed!
The Camp crew was amazing and was always there to assist me and give me a family warm feeling (the cold wet towels when returning from the drives were a blessing!)
And don't forget the food! Jeff is a very resourceful Chef and excelled in preparing the meals: he made muffins and other treats, salads, pies (world class vegetable pie), desserts (delicious apple crumble).
The BEST value for money! Can't wait to do it again.

The Bush Camp is in a beautiful and peaceful spot on the river, with pods of hippo and various other game visible from the seating decks. Great swimming pool to cool down. Mostly however is the excellent guide (Andrew) who has great instinct to deliver superb game sightings in the Park. On a number of occasions we were the only vehicle viewing leopards and lions, a tribute to Andrew’s exceptional tracking skills. Overall a very enjoyable visit and good value for money.

I highly recommend to do the safari with Mikango and suggest to book more than 1 night to maximize the chances to spot the animals and truly live the park. My guide Andrew was great - professional, friendly and helpful. If you are interested in something in particular, just ask him and he will do everything possible - I wanted to see the leopard, I finally saw the leopard! The park was amazing, less tourists than Tanzania northern parks but still big chances to spot all the big animals (not the rhino). My lodge was exceptional, the Njobvu, immersed in nature, and very close to the river and the entrance of the park. You can choose between nice tents with beds and toilets or fancier bungalows, you will be treated well anyways.

What an incredible safari experience! Seeing the animals all roaming around together--not separated like in the zoo as I am used to--was truly memorable. Our guide Andrew took us by Land Cruiser 4x4 safari during the day and again at night. We saw more giraffes, hippos, zebras, elephants and other animals than could be counted...and then the lions! Yes, we saw them too. Food was delicious and Andrew was so, so funny and knowledgeable. Most European owned safari companies in South Luangwa charge 4X his rate and provide a lesser experience. Go with Mikango Safari, you will be glad you did.
