- 1A primordial waterway, Lofton Creek features water that is dark in color, created by the tannins which leach into the water as vegetation decays. Replete with bald cypress, sweet gum, and rare flowers like pickerelweed and wild azaleas, this unique ecosystem is reminiscent of an old south bayou – brackish water teeming with unique plants, animals, and reptiles. Native Americans most likely fished these waters and cultivated the land for thousands of years before the Spanish, French, and English arrived in the mid-16th century.

- 99deedeej0 contributionsGreat Time!!I enjoyed both tours very much. I am a shark tooth enthusiast, and the Cumberland Island trip is an excellent choice for that. The Egan's creek tour was laid back and very enjoyable. It provided a great opportunity to see nature at its best!!Written July 25, 2024
- DeLangeSarah0 contributionsFantastic Experience!! Worth Every Penny.Fantastic experience from start to finish. They arranged a boat ride around Amelia Island and Cumberland Island. We saw lots of dolphins and the wild horses in the beach on Cumberland. Lots of birds, a few flamingoes. Captain Thomas was fabulous! So friendly and helpful with a lot of good information. He took beautiful pictures and let our 4 small children drive the boat. The office made the whole process smooth, even including pictures of where to meet the boat. Seamless. Would highly recommend!Written July 23, 2024

- RT06250 contributionsOkefenokee excursion is a “wonder”Visiting the Okefenokee Swamp with Amelia Adventures was an absolutely wonderful experience. Amelia Adventures provided round trip van service from Fernandina to the Refuge. Kayaking through the county’s largest Wildlife Refuge (over 400,000 acres of protected wetlands) was unique. Our guides, Madeline and Rob were knowledgeable, helpful and a delight. We saw alligators (almost too many to count), cypress trees covered in Spanish moss, carnivorous pitcher plants, many birds (including great egrets, a bittern, great blue herons) and often heard calls from Sandhill Cranes. Hopefully this trip will generate lots of interest and be repeated often. Amelia Adventures is always our pick during our annual visits to Amelia Island for its varied kayaking explorations, many of which we repeat. Thank you Catherine and Tom for putting together this trip and gathering the team of experienced loyal guides you have.Written March 14, 2024
- drewster20010 contributionsGreat time on Cumberland IslandHad a great time with Madeline and Rob as our guides the kayak paddle was aggressive enough but not too challenging. Really enjoyed the shelling on Cumberland Island and got to see horses as well. Madeline and Rob did a great job of informing us of all the sites and we even got to see a sea turtle while on the island highly recommend.Written March 13, 2024
- JillE_Onwards0 contributionsWild horses, dolphins, insider stories - BOOMWild horses, dolphins, egrets, pelicans - boom! We saw all of that and more on our private boat tour with Capt. Sandy. He is the perfect person for this tour having lived on Cumberland Island and worked with the Carnegie family. He truly appreciates the history of the island and the natural habitats of both islands. A wealth of information- and we loved it all! Thank you~Written November 12, 2023

My partner and I did the guided kayak tour of Lofton Creek in a tandem kayak. Our tour was led by Madeleine, who was absolutely fantastic. Before we started she talked us through how to paddle and steer the kayak, as it was only our second time on the water and our first time in a tandem. It was really good fun and we quickly got the hang of it. The scenery on the tour was beautiful and Madeleine shared loads of information about the creek and the local flora and fauna, really bringing everything to life. She also took lots of photos of us and knew all the best spots to get a good picture. It was so peaceful being out on the water and a great way to see the local scenery and wildlife. Highly recommended.

This was a wonderful kayaking trip with a great guide! Madeline was our guide and she took care of everything. She unloaded the kayaks from the truck, gave us a safety and kayaking lesson, then loaded us into the kayak and got us into the water without us ever getting wet. Madeline filled our tour with her knowledge of the plants, the water, the wildlife, and the area where we were. She did all of that with such passion, and with a beautiful smile on her face. I felt like we were a guided on this kayaking trip by a friend. She made us feel so comfortable that we never wanted the trip to end. We will do this again Next year when we return to Amelia Island. One other thing, Madeline took pictures the entire time and sent them to us. They do that as a free gift to those of us that take the tour. We are so grateful for those pictures and appreciate so much, the fact that it was complementary. Really nice addition to a wonderful trip.

Seeing Big Mama the alligator from a safe distance and several of her babies up close a short distance downstream. In addition, we were treated to seeing early blooms of azaleas and flagstaff (?) iris along the banks.
Maddie (we hope this is how she spells her name) was fun, helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. She created a great environment for us (two very inexperienced kayakers) to have a fantastic time!

We had a great weather day in July to kayak Lofton Creek with Madeline and Corey as our guides. We had three couples in our party and we all had a wonderful time. Our guides arrived right on time, were very pleasant and conversational the entire morning, sharing information about the creek, animals, vegetation, and local history. We are locals and their information was all accurate. Lofton Creek is an exceptionally beautiful bit of natural north Florida. We highly recommend this company and were very pleased with our trip.

Amelia Adventures is truly the BEST! We have been coming to the island for 14 years now and discovered Amelia Adventures about 12 yrs ago. Have paddled numerous places around the island & gone on several sunset tours over the years. Thomas & Catherine are great about making it an awesome experience! Wouldn’t go with anyone else on the island!

We had a great time kayaking! Just the two of us and our guide Corey. Corey had lots of stories, was personable, on time, and had a good sense of when to leave us in quiet to enjoy nature.
We would recommend to everyone. Directions and instructions were timely and complete. Easy peasy to sign up and to find the launch site. We loved our kayaking adventure!!!

We had a great experience kayaking Lofton Creek with Amelia Adventures. Our guide, Allie, was very knowledgeable of the area. Our family was already comfortable kayaking, but she still made sure everyone understood the basics of kayaking and safety. We saw cool birds, turtles, and several small alligators. It rained a bit during our paddle, but the rain was actually very enjoyable. We thought it was a nice bonus that the guide photographs the tour and the pictures were included. She took some great photos. We highly recommend this tour.

Really a fun day out with wonderful guides. They knew all about they area and we had LOTS of questions as we were new to this part of the country so we were thrilled to get such great guides with knowledge of the area and more! We thoroughly recommend them if you are choosing some sort of kayak tour. It was also a great way to see things while burning some calories from all the yummy food we were eating on our trip. Loved it all and highly recommend this company for a fun day out on the water!

We thoroughly enjoyed our kayak tour! This was our first time kayaking and we felt completely at ease. Our tour guides were great and Loft Creek was a beautiful place. I would highly recommend this tour especially for beginners as the creek was definitely a safe place to begin your love of kayaking.

Didn't see any when we took our 10 y/o grandson on a guided tour. However, they are quite numerous in places. Just DON'T try to pet them. We have lived here for 18+ years and see them on occasion. Very informative guided trip.
