- Debbie D0 contributionsYbor City lunchtime food tourOur tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Ybor City but the pacing of the food service and locations were not up to the level on other food tours taken. Usually the food is served in restaurants that are visually appealing and make you think of a return visit but this was not the case with this tour. Service was also slow.Written March 16, 2025

As veterans to food tours in the US and abroad, this tour was one of the top best experiences we've had. Kristy was a wonderful host who knew how the four primary cultures of Spain, Cuba, Italy and German, came to Ybor City and the effect each had on both the food and the history of the city. Our group was fairly large and Kristy did a great job keeping us together and on track to get through a lively afternoon of walking, talking and eating!
We lived on Davis Islands in the 1990's and visited Ybor occasionally. Kristy was able to show us some of the old restaurant spaces we visited back in the day and what happened to them over the years. It was a walk down memory lane for us but we have a new perspective on so many things about Ybor City that we overlooked. We brought friends with us from other states and they found everything fascinating. Roosters and chickens? Who knew? Thanks to Kristy for a lovely afternoon.

A wonderful and informative afternoon with our tour guide Kristie. A native of Tampa, she brought personal insight and enthusiasm into the historical story of the four cultures of Ybor City. The food on the tour was delicious, especially the cuban sandwich. I highly recommend this tour for visitors and locals.

Excellent tour and sharing of the very interesting city of Ybor City. Great food tastings a restaurants that we normally would not notice or that standout…all were excellent, especially the Cuban sandwich at The Stone Soup Company. Our tour guide, Christie was so very knowledgeable and clearly has a passion for the history of Ybor city. We highly recommend this walking tour!

Provided history was great! Food stops included an amazing Cuban sandwich, good shepherds pie, ok calzone, and delish cafe con leche. I’ve been on many food tours and although I love Ybor and the history we were taught was informative, this tour seemed to lack cohesion and we were confused by some of the stops and their relevance to the narrative. Also the stop for cafe con leche inside a cigar shop is not a good option for non smokers. Was fun but not worth the $89.

Overall Ybor City is an awesome place to have a food tour, but it is also only 3-4 blocks wide and not very long, so the distance between food places is short. Our first stop was great. we are able to sit inside for 20-30 minutes, but after that we always had to pick up our food and walk it to an outside location with tables. The guide was doing her best to talk about the history while having to deal with locations not favorable to sitting inside. It was hot and just not conducive for sitting outside to eat and run. I would just cap the size of the group to 12-15. We had to leave the food tour early to get to another tour. Good food, just rushed and waiting more for establishments to pack up food for over 20 people, plus water.

This was a exciting, great, fun, and informative session learning about downtown Ybor and eating some of the staple foods that derived from the history of the city. This experience was very engaging and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. I his was a perfect gift for my wife’s birthday. We both enjoyed this experience thoroughly.

We had a fabulous food tour in historic Ybor City! Our guide, Kristie, was truly amazing and provided us with lots of information about this unique area in Tampa. We filled up on food samples from several restaurants and saw a few roosters and chickens running around the neighborhood. So much fun!

This was one of the best food tours that we've done. Our guide, Kristie, shared her love for this area and really brought the history of Ybor City to life.
The food was very good and a great representation of the various cultures.

I have lived in the Clearwater/Tampa area now for 4 years and had never been to Ybor. It was fun to have a tour guide and Laura did a fantastic job. Even though we didn’t know all the participants in the tour at the beginning, she did a great job at addressing us by name and we all ended up getting to know each other. Each food/drink stop was very yummy. The historical sites and corresponding information were all very interesting. We will be back to eat in the pizza restaurant for sure! Thanks for a fun afternoon :)

Kristy did an exceptional job highlighting the true historic roots of Ybor. It was great to learn about different founders and how the city of Ybor came to be. The food highlights were delicious and exceptionally portioned. Each spot showed a different accent of Ybor's eclectic culture. If historic tours and food highlights are your jam, I highly recommend taking this one!

Can you tell me the names of the stops? I saw you leave from Jimmy John and the is a chain, not anything peculiar to Ybor City. Also where the Cuban sandwich is, can you substitute for someone who doesn't eat pork? And, how difficult is the walk? Is it possible to walk very slow for someone with a cane?
Written January 25, 2020
You meet at a the plaza in front of Jimmy John’s. I would call the tour operator with the other questions.
Written January 25, 2020
same question as prior. why will it only allow 2 people to be confirmed?
Written January 24, 2020
Will only let me submit 2 adults not 4 for 10/6, does that mean it’s full?
