My friend and I signed up for the hour and forty-five minute Amish tour. They are one of the only tour companies in the area to offer this, so we were really looking forward to it. Communication from the tour company was great, and on the day of, we parked at the starting spot, shopped the little tourist store, and then boarded the roomy trolley. The trolley holds 31, and apparently we had a crew of 29.
The tour guide, Kendra, was OUTSTANDING. So knowledgeable about both the Amish and Mennonites, and it was definitely a mini-history lesson, which I loved. The tour took us into the Amish part of town, where it seemed almost everyone got around by bicycles - no horse and buggies in this tiny Pinecraft village. This is apparently where the northern Amish winter as snowbirds.
We then went to a local hotel that caters to the Amish, where we got a sampling of pie shots, talked with the manager about his experiences, and then were told stories of the hanging quilts and the photographs hanging in the lobby showing the early Amish days.
From there we went to a quilting shop and had a brief talk about quilting. I bought a couple of beautiful handmade pot holders here.
The main problem with this tour was that not enough time was allocated for each stop. The tour clientele was mainly older, and they needed longer to get on and off the trolley. When we got to the hotel, the tour guide, knowing I wanted to buy pies, told me there would not be enough time to stop at the nearby Amish store, which was supposed to be part of the tour. She advised my friend and I to run over during the hotel lobby tour, which we did.
All in all I definitely recommend the tour, but plan on paying a visit to an Amish market separately.

I’m glad you enjoyed our tour but I’m confused that you thought time was a problem. This tour runs 15 min longer than all our other 90 minute tours to allow for the drive out to Pinecraft and back. We can’t allow any more time because we run many tours a day in rotation and only have one trolley and driver. The tour says 1 hour and 45 minutes and stated all that is included. The bakery at Der Dutchman is included. Yoders another restaurant is not. Perhaps that’s where you wanted to go?
It is not a shopping tour it’s a learning tour so we always encourage people to go back if they wish to spend an afternoon there. Many guests do because there is a lot to see.

My wife and I highly recommend this tour. It is funny, entertaining and educational. The tour guide, Kendra, is uniquely qualified to explain the differences between the Amish and Mennonites, the fact that they are Christian in their beliefs and how we should separate their religious beliefs from their culture. We have taken multiple tours throughout the country over the years and quite frankly this tour rates right up there as one of the best. You will not be disappointed and Kendra will keep you entertained at the same time she increases your knowledge.

What a wonderful, interesting and fun experience we had with our group from Harvest United Methodist Church on this Tour. Our Guide was overflowing with information, fun, welcomed and answered questions during the Trolley tour and at all of the stops we made in the Amish Community. I have lived in Lakewood Ranch FL/Sarasota for 22 years and knew very little about the Amish in our area. This Tour was a real "eye opener". Highly recommend this tour it will truly open your mind into how and why the Amish in 2023 live and have survived and thrived in this busy world we live in.

that information. We were on a bus trip from the Villages which took 2 1/2 hours to get to the tour company. Kendra, our guide, was very knowledgeable and informative. However, the entire 1 1/2 hour tour was spent inside the Carlisle Inn where Kendra spoke about the Amish and Mennonite lifestyle. I do not consider this a tour. We did drive thru a neighborhood, on the way to the hotel, with no people outside, where she stated this was where the Amish lived or vacationed? The way the tour was advertised was that we would be driving thru a community of Amish and Mennonite people. The only few Amish we did see was after the trip was finished and our bus took us to the Der Dutchman Restaurant for lunch. I would not recommend this trip to anyone. I grew up near the Amish community in Pennsylvania where we toured their homes and schools. We saw in person how they lived. If I wanted to hear someone speak for 1 1/2 hours about the Amish I could have googled

Our church group took the Amish Experience tour today, and guide Kendra did a beautiful job of making it a “bridge to understanding” for us. I loved the way she shared stories of her Amish & Mennonite heritage, emphasizing to us the importance of respecting others, whether or not we agree with their beliefs. What she shared with us was not academic, it was personal and real. Her microphone made it possible for everyone to hear every word she said, both on the trolley and during our stops at the Carlisle Inn, Alma Sue’s Quilt Shop, and Der Dutchman. The trolley depot has plenty of free off-street parking, and the trolley was comfortably air-conditioned.

Our trolley ride tour was accented with historical revelations, animated stories, genuine understanding of a culture to be credited and admired for their life choices. Who knew how many different kinds of hats and hair coverings are worn and how they tell you what state they are from? Know three distinctions that tell you if you are seeing a Mennonite or an Amish woman? And why do some men wear beards and none have mustaches? There’s fun in the details!

Kendra was an absolutely amazing tour guide! We are from Ohio and have spent a lot of time in "Amish Country" in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana and she still told us facts that we didn't know. She has a real passion for wanting people to understand the Amish way of life. She mixed in personal stories of her own family which made it that much more personal. We were there at the end of season, so didn't see too many Amish people, but it didn't matter to us. Kendra kept us entertained and intrigued. We will definitely do this tour again in season and plan to take many more of the tours offered by Discover Sarasota Tours!!!

Our tour guide, Kendra Cross, was a wonderful story-teller, filled with factual and personal information. She pointed out common differences between the Amish and Mennonite communities and cultures and answered many questions that probably most have pondered.
We visited the Carlisle Inn, Der Dutchman Restaurant, the Quilt Shop and a quick ride through the most popular community of Pine Craft, summer home to many of the Sarasota Amish residents.
The Trolley is a comfortable and pleasurable sightseeing and educational experience.

The Amish Tour was great! Entertaining, educational and inspirational. I loved the fact the guide, Kendra, has first hand experience of the Amish culture. She gave us information of the history of where the Amish culture came from, how they came to the US and how they set roots in Sarasota. If you want to know about this interesting and close knit lifestyle, you definitely want to take this tour. Kendra did a beautiful job of helping us, "English", understand and appreciate the Amish roots and culture, they are a people worth getting to know! Wait till you hear her talk about her cousin who is still Amish, PRICELESS!!!

I have learned so many things about Sarasota that would be boring to read but fascinating to experience. Our guide Kendra has first hand experience in the Amish culture and shared so many wonderful stories with a great deal of passion. We also had the opportunity to meet Lena who worked in the laundry at the hotel in Pinecraft. The pie sampling was divine and the ladies at the quilting shop were very busy but took time to engage. Yoder's Restaurant looks fabulous and the gift shop had a lot of hand crafted items for sale. HURRY if you want to enjoy this unique experience as the families will return to their northern farmers in early April.
