      Wonderful glimpse into the past
I took the sacred lands jungle Prada tour. There’s so much history here from the natives to the Spanish to the homesteaders. A wonderful look into the past and our guide was great, he’s even a descendent of the property owners. So cool to see pristine Indian mounds covered in artifacts, and rare these days. Also the peacocks were awesome.

I highly recommend this tour of the Indian mound. Our guide, David, had a wealth of knowledge ranging from the many plants on the property to the Spanish attempt at colonization and the native inhabitants. If you love history, you will enjoy this tour.

Terrific history and botanical walking tour
Wonderfully informative tour of the Native American site on the shores of Boca Ciega. David is an engaging and charming guide who told the history of the site with great expertise and passion. He also made sure to learn the names of all the participants! Beautiful gardens and adorable peacocks and peahens to boot. Don’t miss it!

      Don't miss it!
We are locals who enjoyed the walking tour of the Indian burial Grounds . Our tour guide was most informative about the local history and folklore surrounding the sacred site. We were delighted watching the peacocks and peahens strutting their colorful plumage around the property. I would highly recommend that you bring along the entire Family. The entire property and the Indian relics are a great hidden gem in our own backyard!

      Excellent experience… Love the peacocks!
My 84 year old Mom and I went on the tour and it was great. Lots of opportunities to take pictures of the peacocks. David shared lots of stories about how Jungle Prada came to be. Easy pace for those with mobility concerns. Can’t recommend enough.

      Great tour!
We really enjoyed this tour. David was very knowledgeable and you could tell he was passionate about the area and preserving the history. He grew up in a house on the property and is a third-generation conservationist. We met his parents and heard about his grandparents who were ahead of their time when it came to preserving the land and its history. I would also recommend it if you have children as we had one child on the tour and he took the time to answer her questions and point things out to her.

We did the tour today through an Eckerd College OLLI course. David, and his excellent talk and tour was definitely the highlight of the day. He is fantastic speaker, animated and knowledgeable! I would definitely recommend taking the tour of this very unique place filled with artifacts and many peacocks too!

David is a fantastic tour guide and has a gift for storytelling. I was somewhat knowledgeable about the early history of the area, but I learned so much more on this tour. We felt comfortable in the former greenhouse (museum and shop) because the door was open and the space was large. The outdoor tour was fantastic and included history (from 1000 AD-present), plants, sculpture, peacocks and so much more. We enjoyed David's introductory video before the tour and the after-tour stories about the early Spanish explorers. David answered all of our questions with great knowledge and enthusiasm. This living history tour would be enjoyed by children and adults.

David Anderson's tour of the sacred lands was great! Not only does he really know his history, he's also an expert in botany. He took many questions about the jungle around us, including the peacocks! The Sacred Lands are unique and fascinating; the jungle, the mystical statues, the history (including the mound) all made it seem as if we were a million miles away from St. Pete. Great job, David!

Our unintended private tour was outstanding - the stories, the beautiful property and the peacocks came together perfectly. Our guide was a total professional - we started on time and remained engaged throughout the entire event due to how well the stories were told, and how well organized the tour was - each stop connected like puzzle pieces. Nicely done, Jungle Prada.

David is a great guide, with enthusiasm in his story telling. Beautiful sacred site for history preservation. About 50 peacocks roam around freely. Worth a trip if you're ever in the area.
Ubered here from Tampa with a friendly driver.
However, since public transportation in every city is my way of discovering how the locals live, I jumped on #5 right outside the site to Grand Central for $2.50. The bus driver gave me a free all day bus pass to go to the St. Petersburg Pier. I rode again on the CAT (Central Ave Trolley) through downtown and to the Pier.
A day well spent at the Jungle Prada, Downtown and the Pier.

Be aware that this is a historically significant, but very small site. David, our tour guide had clearly done extensive research on the inhabitants of the area for the last 1000 years, from the makers of ancient middens to the colorful residents of the 1930s, to former neighbors who provided Gertrude and Heathcliff, his family's first pair of breeding peafowl His knowledge of the native flora was comprehensive. His retelling of the Navarez expedition was especially entertaining. His use of laminated photos was excellent.
There is a small museum in the former greenhouse. The exhibits regarding the Tocobaga Indians were meticulously documented, but the other items, mostly donated flotsam and jetsam, had no signage. The 75-minute tour was well worthwhile for the price.
The restroom had been well-cleaned and smelled of bleach.

We had a wonderful tour at Jungle Prada. David, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. His family has been responsible for the preservation of this important historic site for generations. It was apparent that he loves what he does and enjoys sharing the incredible history we have in our midst...not only the history of the Tocobaga Indians but of the surrounding area. We enjoyed learning about the flora and fauna of this region, including learning about the peacocks that live on site. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn more about St Pete's history or who just want to spend an interesting and enjoyable 90 minutes.

Today I went on a tour at Discover Florida Tours. If you are familiar with the area, you've probably driven past the giant white sign that indicates that Narvaez (who led a very interesting expedition through Florida and lived an extremely interesting life before and after...look him up) landed there in the 1500's.

The site was all home to the Tocobaga native Floridians who built the shell mounds on the land. The Anderson family has worked to preserve the mound. David who gave me the tour, is continuing their family mission to preserve and educate .

I know most people will find it something they can stop over, but people, I'm telling you to fo to one of their tours. It was only $12, was about 75 minutes, not a lot of walking at all..actually it was minimal in comparison to any other tour). But it was so interesting to not only learn about the Tocobaga and Spanish arrival here, but about local history of the development of the city.

It's not a huge area, but it is an important area to preserve. Visiting helps keep things going for them. They also have other events like meditation, yoga, drum circles. David does other local historical talks in the area. He js knowledgeable about not just the family land, but other important historical spots in the county and Florida. You can even rent out a space outside for events like weddings or birthdays, etc.

It was not too hot, but because it's a little jungle-y bug spray is needed. Check it our people!!

Oh and David is a horticulturist and like an expert on native plants. There are also a bunch 🦚 if you enjoy those types of wild animals.

GO AND GO AGAIN. Our guide, David, gave an exuberant and very informative presentation on the native tribe that lived during the pre Columbian era. This is an outdoor walking tour with short presentations at the start and finish.
The tour also covers the Spanish arrival to the area and the Spaniard's impact on the surrounding areas and peoples. David's family own a section of land where this tribe lived for over 600 years. They recognize their responsibility to act as care takers of this historical site while living there.
If you love peacocks, you have a treat as there are OVER 50 of them roaming the grounds and in the trees. Shedded peacock feathers are for sale in the gift shop as well as palm honey, books on the history of the area and other special things. I brought 2 long feathers which my cats have enjoyed chasing as I flick them through the air!
Sorry no photos as I was focused on the presentation and taking in the sites.
Under priced so be sure to make a donation!

I was lucky enough to spend most of my youth here, watching community members and tribal leaders unite to share in the values I hold closest to me now. I would not be who I am today without this property and the history and legacy David preserves. This has been a historical experience for nearly a century in the Tampa Bay area. Thank you David, Doris, Eric, and the countless volunteers who have contributed over the years. Love you all.
A little backstory...My grandmother Frances and grandpa Happy established their home under a canopy of gnarled banyan trees on this land. They held a deep passion and care for nature and passed the fruits of their care taking along the family tree to us. As young children we played amongst the peacocks, eating from the gardens of starfruit and mint leaves, and hearing stories of harvesting the wild mollusks, finding a sense of home - of something worth preserving.
As the gulf community has developed, we’ve witnessed the decay and change of the surrounding areas from immediate environmental pressures and Eric, Doris, David, and so many other community members who have volunteered over the years have managed to keep this area sacred and ecologically sound so the community can continue to enjoy it. We've all taken on deep ancestral pain imagining the potential passing of such a pure land, but also a sense of responsibility to find solutions to pressing ecological concerns. This space has brought likeminded people together to work on those and many other social justice causes.
Coming to this land will serve to fuel your propensity towards creative living, community building, and environmental problem solving. You will leave feeling optimistic and connected to something greater than yourself. Please visit and enjoy ♥
