About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- erinsI6918YW0 contributionsGreat experienceOur family loved the fishing trip hosted by captain Matt! We brought our family of 5 including kids ages 10,8, and 6, and their 80 year old grandpa! Matt provided everything we needed, kept our 4 lines baited and fish removed and helped with anything we needed. We will definitely be back!Written January 4, 2025
- 897carissad0 contributionsSunset cruiseOur family had a great time on our sunset cruise. Captain Matt was very friendly and knowledgeable. He knew right where to find the dolphins and the shelling island brought lots of treasures for our kids. We enjoyed the cruise around the other islands and saw many birds as well. We have 2 teenage daughters who don’t often agree on anything but they both loved the excursion and enjoyed looking for shells together. It was a great experience and left lots of fun memories!Written December 24, 2024
- shawnsQ9027UH0 contributionsFantastic Intro to Inshore Fishing TripThe Intro to Inshore Fishing was the PERFECT first-time fishing experience for our son! We did this at his request and on short notice but that didn't matter as these guys were still able to take great care of us. I definitely would refer friends and family here. Thank y'all for the wonderful and memorable experience!Written July 28, 2024
- Aaron K0 contributionsGreat tour with a great captainCaptain Nick is very knowledgeable of the area and what kinds of shells you'll likely find and where you'll find them. He is also informative if you have a question for him. We have done this tour for the past 2 years. Obviously, we were happy the first time enough to do a second.Written July 22, 2024

- Sarah M0 contributionsA Perfect 10K TourCaptain Nick from Island Excursions gave us a memorable morning in the 10,000 islands! We arrived at the Goodland Boat Park (which was only 15 minutes away from the hotel strip) and found modern facilities that included a bathroom and changing area, as well as an adorable marina shop with friendly attendants where anything one can think of for a boat trip could be purchased. Captain Nick greeted us and walked us to the 6-passenger boat, which was only a short walk from the marina shop. We found Captain Nick to be and extremely knowledgeable and competent Captain as we toured the 10,000 Islands in the way to Kice Island. We spotted dolphins and birds and enjoyed learning about the ecology and history of the area. Once on Kice Island, Captain Nick not only directed us how to choose the best spots for finding shells, he also combed the beach along with us and advised us as we shelled. He created a great balance of staying with us and leaving us in our own. If he went back to check on the boat, he would return with to find us shells in-hand to give us because he was on the hunt for great shells along with us. We were on the island for the perfect amount of time and never felt rushed. We found that this shelling experience and 10,000 Islands mangrove tour was both educational and relaxing. We were very grateful for the wealth of knowledge Captain Nick brought to the experience and we will DEFINITELY take this tour again! Thank you, Captain Nick!Written January 8, 2024
- IrmiDS0 contributionsGreat Family MemoriesOur captain Nick was all ready for us, even though we were a few minutes early. He was not only very friendly, but also patient and super nice to our grandkids. The boat ride was very smooth, even though it was windy, and the boat was spotless clean. Of course we loved the abundance of shells on the small island, but my favorite was when we were idling in the water and there were many dolphins on both sides and in front of us, swimming around us in multiples, and also jumping. The kids loved especially the ride between the mango groves on the way back. Nick helped us make great memories!Written October 16, 2023

- W210YCzachb0 contributionsShelling, dolphins and fishingWe had a fabulous time with Captain Nick. We first booked a shelling and dolphin tour with him for my wife, 3 year old, 5 year old and mother in law. What a wonderful trip for all ages. Highly recommend! We had such fun we asked about a short fishing trip for our family. We were lucky enough for Nick to have an opening and did an introductory to fishing trip with our whole family. The kids caught tons of fish and we all had a blast on the 2 hour trip! Highly recommend this group for your excursions!Written March 23, 2023

- emmslang0 contributionsPerfect length boat trip for families w little onesCaptain Nick is the best! We actually went out on a trip with him last year and the whole family had a great time. This time we saw he had a shorter trip, which was perfect for us, given our little kids. The longer trip is a lot of fun, and you have more time to spend on the beach, see the sights, hear Captain Nick talk about the wildlife etc. Our older child (7yo) loved the longer trip. This year we went for the shorter trip, as our little one (3yo) found that much more engaging. She loved the longer trip...but fell asleep on the boat ride home (which was actually very cute!) If you just want a shorter excursion that gives you plenty of time to do other stuff, the 2h trip is lots of fun too. Next year we'll probably opt for the longer trip...but really you cannot go wrong with either one.Written February 14, 2023

Capt Nick was great with our boatload, which ranged in age from early teens to mid-20s. Knowledgeable and fun, he recognized different interests and led a great trip for all. Highly recommend!

My wife and I, our two kids (20 mo. & 4 yr.), and grandma booked a private 2.5 hour trip with Nick in search of dolphins and shells. Nick did not disappoint - he was ready to go when we arrived, helped us get organized on the boat, pointed out wildlife, immediately spotted dolphins, and brought us to an island that was age appropriate for our little ones. We left with two buckets full of amazing treasures from the beach, which leaves me asking myself: "What am I going to do with all of these shells?"
Above all else, Nick was patient with our kids, had their safety in mind at all times, was inclusive of them in the experience (even letting them drive the boat), and they had the time of their lives - which is what a family vacation is all about. I would definitely recommend this tour to others who are visiting Marco and want to have a great experience!

Captain Nick was fabulous. We had three kids with us and he engaged with them wonderfully, while also making sure the adults had a great a experience. He was calm and relaxed and customized our trip for the tides, weather, and crowds at certain areas. His boat was clean and well taken care of. The price was extremely fair, considering a group trip would have cost our group of 6 about the same price. Private was 100% the way to go. He was super responsive before the trip, making sure everything was perfect for us. My kids have told everyone they see at the hotel to go see Captain Nick. I cannot recommend him more.

WOW! This was a fun and informative excursion and I highly recommend it. Captain Nick wasn't feeling well the day of our excursion so Captain Orion filled in and did an amazing job. He shared information and insights on the local wildlife and cracked a ton of jokes while we were touring which made it extra fun! The boat was super clean and Capt. Orion had cold bottles of water for us. Once we arrived at the island, the shelling was incredible and Captain Orion took the time to teach us about the shells and marine life and take a few family photos for us. On the way back he went to his favorite dolphin spot and actually got the dolphins to play with us and jump out of the water for pictures and videos right next to the boat! It was incredible and none of us (my husband, daughter and I, and my 70 yo parents) had ever seen a dolphin that close before. IT WAS AWESOME! The pics and videos we gave are truly unbelievable and we'll have those memories forever. I would tour with Captains Nick or Orion again in a heartbeat. Sign up NOW - you won't be disappointed!

This was a wonderful shelling experience! Capt. As this was my first shelling experience, Captain Nick spent time teaching us the different types and the best place to search.
On our way home we found a family of dolphins, the captain turned the boat away from heading home and created a great wake for them to follow us and play in. The extra effort was greatly appreciated!

Our experience was consistent with other reviews: Nick was awesome! It was obvious that he “read the room” and tailored his humor and what he shared based on what he could tell we would enjoy. As someone who lives on Marco Island, I’ve been out with other companies that do similar tours from the same marina and our experience with Nick far exceeded the others. Nick will definitely be my captain of choice going forward.

Nick was very knowledgeable about the area and finding specific shells and sand dollars. Nick was very easy going and made the experience laid back for my 6 yr old. Nick allowed my 13 yr old to steer the boat for a little bit. Both of my children didn't want the experience to end. I recommend Nick, he really made the whole boating and dolphin/shelling experience very fun and worth every moment.

Wonderful! Nick was a fantastic captain and tour guide. We took a great morning half day tour in mid-march. There were three of us on the private tour, my son (10), my daughter (24) and me. Nick was extremely knowledgeable about the islands, birds, dolphins and shells. We travelled out to Dickmans Island by boat, watching bird and dolphins along the way. Nick knew exactly how to make the dolphins play behind the wake of the boat and it was really fun to watch! Nick had buckets for each of us to collect shells...and collect shells we did! Even sand dollars. On the ride back, we enjoyed watching the dolphins again. Nick is very friendly and laidback. Perfect trip for mixed age groups.
As a suggestion for guests, parking at this marina is a real problem. I was able to text Nick and finally find a spot, but arrive a few minutes early to be able make parking arrangements if needed. Even though Nick could identify every shell, I wish the tour had shell cards to identify the shells...because there were so many shells! Bring your own shell identifying book or card. Also, look at the weather in the morning as you leave. Obviously, you will need strong sunscreen and a hat, but consider bringing a jacket too, the boat ride can be chilly in the morning.
This is a must do if you are in the Marco Island area!

Nick is a fantastic captain and provided exceptional service! He shared his knowledge of the area with us and was very patient with our four children as they asked questions. He kept our entire family of six entertained. We booked a two hour tour, but he took us around for nearly 3 hours out of kindness. The highlight of our trip was the Dolphins. Nick took time to find the pattern of the dolphins and then encouraged them to play alongside the boat in its wake. Our pictures and videos were fantastic! I highly recommend Nick if you are looking for a best in class excursion!

Nick (our captain & guide) took us to a specific spot/island for shelling based on the previous days’ weather patterns (good knowledge). He was also able to identify the dolphins who were ready to play and swim alongside our boat (dolphin whisperer). Finally, he was able to share some expertise around the local marine biology and mangroves. Thx again for making our charter enjoyable!

Is it reasonable to expect to see wildlife in early August? If so, what is the best time of day to book the excursion
Written June 12, 2023
It is reasonable as Florida is warm weather year round. And permanent residence for many!
I don’t know whether morning or Attis better but I the owner would be delighted to answer any questions with a lot more expertise than any of us can offer as he is out on the water every day!
