My mom and I did this eco tour with Heather and had an absolutely amazing time! We are both inexperienced kayakers so we struggled in the beginning, but with Heather's instruction and kindness we got the hang of it. Heather is fantastic!

She taught us so much about the mangroves, jelly fish, and sharks, which we got to see on the tour. I highly recommend this tour for individuals of all ages and kayaking skill levels. It's a great way to learn more about Key West and the creatures and plants that make it home.

When you schedule, I recommend going in the late morning because there is less boat traffic and smoother water. Additionally remember to pack a towel for the car ride back (you'll be a little wet) and water for the tour.

You'll have a great time with Lazy Dogs!

My wife and I participated in the kayak tour on 4-14-21 with tour guide Payton. We had an incredible experience out there! First off, the staff was laid back but professional and knowledgeable. Payton took her time to explain in detail what we were seeing throughout the tour and one could tell that it is not just a "job" for her, but a true passion. She was very personable and pleasant to speak with and made it a point to converse with all parties that were on the tour with us. We were even able to hold a snail and starfish! In addition to interacting with our tour guide, the fellow kayakers that were out with us that day were also very pleasant and fun to be around, and we both enjoyed conversing with them. This was our first time in the Keys and I would highly recommend taking this tour as it shows a side of the island that you would not normally explore.

Looking for that additional thing to do in Key West that gets you out of downtown and on the water? This is perfect! We did the two hour tour for $50. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and found lots of sea life to show us along the way. She was an excellent group leader making sure everyone was comfortable and near the group. If you've never been kayak before don't worry, it's a pretty easy paddle even in higher winds like the day we went!

The door ambled through the canal near the marina and through mangroves. Great way to see a different side of Key West and learn about the local ecosystem. Great for all ages and dog friendly!

A few things to note.

Parking is very challenging. Might be different at different times of day. We took the tour at 2. The parking is free but the lot is small. The lots is shared with the marina, fishermen, the restaurant and bar, and lazy dog adventures. We almost missed our tour because we couldn't find a spot despite arriving at the recommended 30 minutes early. We ended up parking along the highway. There aren't many spots for cars but the shoulders are wide. I would have planned for different transportation, like walking the 2 miles from our Campground, if I had known about the park situation.

The tour is advertised as 2 hours. We started promptly at 2 but got back about 20 minutes early and were back in the car at quarter to 4. A little disappointing to not get the full two hours after spending $50 per person plus a tip.

Gratuity of roughly $10 per person is recommended. If you have a great tour guide like we did then it's absolutely deserved!

Kayaking here was easy and comfortable. The pace was slow with frequent stops so our guide could point out various aquatic species along the way and talk about the ecology and a little bit about the evolution of the city and the mangroves and salt ponds.

Kayaks, paddles, and life preservers were well maintained and seemed of good quality.

Pace was too slow for my taste but was probably perfect for some of the other members of the party. If I were to do this again, I would take the unguided option, which lets you go at your own pace with a map.

They sell water for $1/bottle and will rent you a dry box for your phone if you want one. I didn’t rent it so I don’t remember the price.

Staff were friendly and helpful, positive and knowledgeable.

We reserved a SUP tour but were told tide too high earlier in morning so they expected current too rough on way back and we were only two of group to SUP. Being we were not experienced they highly recommended against SUP and highly encourage kayaking.

Site info about SUP tour seems a bit misleading. This SUP tour would not be for beginners even though the current/tide was just fine in the afternoon as they travel quite ways. Plus If you are the only SUP on tour maybe at a different pace than kayakers.

Quite a long ride. Go under quite a few mangroves. Very doable for beginners as pace is not bad but I guess there can be issues with winds/current and high tide which we didn't experience. Getting through mangroves can bet a little interesting depending how big group is and how many kayaks.

Not sure how good of a SUP board tour this would have been unless quiet experienced.

Guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Saw a little bit wildlife and learn about Key West too.

Lots of sun only shade is under mangroves.

Felt kayak back support was very poor. Ask for maybe an extra life vest to use for support.

My husband and I went on the lazy dog eco kayak tour based on trip advisor reviews. We were not disappointed! It was wonderful- an experience that the whole family could enjoy ( kids over the age of 8).

Bethany was our guide and she was an excellent resource on the mangroves, local wildlife and all things Key West. She went out of her way to point out wildlife and catch it in her net for us to see up close.

I would highly recommend this tour to couples and families of older children who want to learn a bit more about the ecology of the keys and want to paddle through the beautiful mangroves.

Pro tip - bring a zip lock bag or waterproof case for your phone. They have dry boxes for rent but a ziplock bag would do the trick.

We had Morgan as our guide. She was knowledgeable and despite our group size, she managed to keep us all together and share great information about the mangroves and history of keywest. She was the highlight of our visit. She was even able to find some sealife (starfish, sea hare, cormorant, puffer fish) and was very personable. Thank you Morgan!

We had a wonderful time on our Eco tour. This was my third time kayaking and only my husband’s second time so we were novices but Rachael gave excellent instructions on how to paddle and let us know where we were going and how to navigate. We loved seeing all the wildlife and learning the importance of the plants and the role they play in keeping things balanced.
Our guide Rachel was amazing! She did our tour on a stand up paddle board and was able to point out Manatee, little Nurse-sharks and Cassiopeia Jellyfish. Rachel lives a fascinating life and is passionate about what she does and that made choosing Lazy Dog Adventures more than worth it for us. This was the highlight of our weekend!

While you can rent a kayak for longer and for less, I figured I might geI t lost without a guide, so I signed up. Overall, the trip itself was interesting, albeit mostly through an urbanized part of the local channels and mangrove swamps. We saw some cool sea life, but the information we were provided about the environment and the wildlife had several errors, and my questions were not really appreciated; thus the trip seemed rote. I also resented the fairly hard sell, at the end, for a significant tip, with our guide telling us that she worked for tips, which left me wondering why, if I could rent a kayak from the same place for $25 for 3 hours, I and the other 8 folks paid $50 each for this tour. Next time I'll try another one of the companies.

We had the most fun on our trip with Aliya and Copper! There were 13 of us on a bachelorette trip and we were worried that it may not be everyone's cup of tea since there were so many different opinions, but it was probably our favorite activity of the weekend. Aliya really kept us engaged from start to finish, and her pup Copper was adorable hanging out on her paddle board with her. We got to see some beautiful wildlife, kayak through some mangrove tunnels, and overall just had a great time. We would definitely recommend this activity to anyone and if we're ever in the area again will be back!!
