- gjl62850 contributionsThe best way to See Ft Lauderdale by water! We had the opportunity to sail the Intracoastal waters of The Venice of North America with Captain Dan the “Sailwind Pirate!” Another couple from Utah were on the cruise which was amazing. The homes, downtown Ft Lauderdale, massive yachts, two dolphins and some very big Iguanas were highlights we enjoyed. Some amazing history of some of the landmarks, homes and people who have made these waterways special was narrated by Captain Dan. If you are looking for an amazing personalized trip through the waterways of this area………..Captain Dan is your man!Written January 19, 2024
- mikerazey0 contributionsFantastic Sailing Lesson!Sailing on the Wind Pirate with Captain Dan was a fantastic experience! My fiancé and I were interested in learning a bit about sailing and Dan was more than accommodating. Not only were we both able to take the helm for as long as we wanted, but he also even let us get some hands on with hoisting the main sail and some of the sail changes. Captain Dan's knowledge and willingness to teach were invaluable. He was a kind and down to earth guy who made our day on the water a time to remember. So much so, that we came back again for another sail a few days later. I would recommend sailing with Captain Dan anytime and hope that we cross paths again someday. Fair winds and following seas.Written April 27, 2021
- debraleaa0 contributionsSailing for my birthdayI was looking for an outdoor activity to celebrate my birthday, and I’d never gone sailing. When this popped up on TripAdvisor, I went for it. Captain Dan was great communicating before the sail since we had to change the reservation. And the actual 4-hour sail was fantastic for a party of 3. I don’t usually write reviews, but I had to come back and give this shout out to Captain Dan. I would definitely go again.Written April 20, 2021
- Cindy L0 contributionsLoved sailing with Captain Dan!We had a great time sailing for an afternoon with Captain Dan! The sailboat was roomy and Dan gave a great narration about the views we saw... from multi-million dollar boats & houses to places to visit/eat. My husband & I were able to relax with a bottle of wine and a snack during our sail. It was a very windy day so it was too rough to go out on the ocean, but that didn’t detract from the experience. I highly recommend this tour! @sailwindpirate. #sailwindpirateWritten April 12, 2021
- 160grahamk0 contributionsGreat sailWe really enjoyed our 4hr private sail with Captain Dan. We were in very capable hands. He took time to teach us a little bit about sailing, he offered sailing/cruising choices depending on what type of experience we wanted, and was in general fun to spend a few hours with. We would recommend this experience for families or friends looking for fun.Written February 16, 2021

Everything was perfect from our initial greeting (by his wife and adorable niece) to boarding, to relaxing on the comfy bean bags and taking in the views. - chewedpup0 contributionsWhat a great day out and lovely to have made new friendsIt was an outstanding day, going out sailing, captain dan and first mate tracy were wonderful, following social distancing/mask requirements, boat was spotless and disinfected - so I could relax and enjoy the trip. They do exactly what you want to do, if you're not comfortable going out to sea, they'll take you down the river - whatever you want to do - very knowledgable, they both obviously love sailing and are experts, it was just a wonderful day and a nice change from being stuck at home. I stayed up on top of the boat in the fresh air all the time, so I was never concerned about getting close to anyone. Excellent, can't wait to do it again.Written December 6, 2020

- Glasgow19000 contributionsFantastic 4 hours with captain DanWhat a fantastic day. Don’t be put off or be concerned at the location as it’s captain Dan’s home. Lovely sail boat and he was a gem of a guy, very helpful, talkative and professional. So Tracey doesn’t feel left out, I’d better mention her. She took a couple of pics on her iPad just as we were leaving and sent them to us via email - brilliant. Lovely lady. You won’t be disappointed. You can even play a game of putting in his back garden whilst waiting on your Uber. Don’t go for the most difficult hole - it’s almost impossible lol. Very highly recommended.Written February 27, 2020

The sailing trip was fantastic. Captain Dan and Tracy were so accommodating and always there to answer questions and share interesting stories. We brought some snacks and drinks, kept them cold in the fridge and relaxed on the deck while we cruised. There was a little bit of rain in the distance but Captain Dan knew how to keep us dry and entertained. When we got out to open water we borrowed boat gear and did a little snorkeling. The trip back through the canals was during the golden hour which made for some great photos. This is a not-to-miss adventure, I highly recommend it.

We were extremely pleased with our experience with Captain Dan on our 4 hour cruise. He was very informative , we were able to bring our own food and drinks, and the inland tour was beautiful. The best part was when he put up the sails and we experienced the feeling of sailing. Some of us even went snorkeling for a bit, then we were able to rinse off with fresh water, had the ability to change and were able to go right out for dinner afterwords. I would highly recommend Captain Dan for anyone wanting to experience a private sailboat trip!!!

I have been on a few boating charters before but this was my first sailing charter. My wife and I booked a 4-hour semi-private charter for two. We were joined by one other gentleman and of course Captain Dan.
Based on the previous Trip Advisor reviews for this charter I was pretty sure we were going to have a great experience, and I wasn't wrong. It was immediately evident that Captain Dan was a personable, competent and experienced sailor as he navigated the tight rivers, the intracoastal waterways and draw bridges and then finally the Atlantic.
We did stop for a swim in the Atlantic and Dan offered us snorkeling equipment but we opted out on the snorkeling as we wanted to continue sailing the waves.
The 4-hour experience went by far to fast but isn't that always the case when you are enjoying yourselves.
This sailing charter gets my 100% recommendation and we felt the price point for this charter was extremely reasonable for the experience offered. He books up fast and we were lucky to find an open date so book early if you can.

Captain Dan is the best! On the second to last day in Florida, and for a post Valentine’s Day romantic excursion, we booked “A Day on the Water” with Captain Dan. He and First Mate Tracy (his wife), were so welcoming upon arrival. He is knowledgeable on all the local history and the general area. As it turns out, the waters were a bit rough on our excursion and created a bit of sea sickness. Captain Dan was very experienced in navigating and considerate in minimizing the effects of the waves. As we cruised back into the intercoastal channels, the seasickness subsided and he graciously retrieved our champagne from the lower deck so that we could enjoy the remainder of the cruise in grand style. We would highly recommend this excursion both for the opportunity to be with Captain Dan as well as the great value he provides for four hours on a wonderful sailboat.

Perfect!! Everything was perfect...from beginning to end. Captain Dan is a skilled sailor and wonderful host. He not only gives you a spectacular sail off the coast of Ft Lauderdale, in the big beautiful Atlantic; he is also your tour guide as you motor through the New River and Intracoastal. His lovely wife, Tracy, greets you and prepares you for your journey. She takes a group photo of your party as you leave the dock and will send a copy to each as a souvenir.
This was our second sail on the Wind Pirate and I am looking forward to a third in the near future.
It is a Day on the Water you will never regret or forget!

Beautful, well maintained 40 ft. sailboat and a friendly, skilled captain who made sure we were comfortable and happy over our 4 hour adventure. We motored along the New River for 45 min. and were amazed by the "millions of dollar" homes and huge yachts floating out front and the tour of downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Once we got to the ocean the sea was rough but our captain was very skilled in maneuvering his boat and keeping us safe. We had taken Dramamine before we left and were glad we did.
Finished with anchoring in calm water and swimming off the boat. Motored back to Capt. Dan's home at sunset and the scenes earlier in day were now bathed in lights. A truly spectacular day and happy memories made!

This was such an Amazing 4hr sailing trip that my wife and I would have liked lasting so much longer...
This activity was incredible, the waters were smooth, the weather perfect and Captain Dan was very knowledgeable and highly experienced in his sailing skills, and in sharing with me great information regarding various factors involved in owning and purchasing a sailboat, as I'm currently in the market for a sailboat.
Also, I really enjoyed being at the helm once again since it's been years for me since I've sailed on my own.
He also offered some great details on what I needed to brush up on, and even showed me how to carefully back the sailboat back into the slip...
I highly recommend this awesome adventure even if you've never sailed before...

From the first phone call to the end of the sail, it was over the top in terms of service and going above and beyond our expectations.
Captain Dan and his wife Tracy were pleasant, knowledgeable, funny, and like most in the boating community.. easy going.
My 93 year old dad and his girlfriend are still talking about how much fun they had months later. He even was able to pilot the boat out in open sea and jumped in the water with the rest of us in a sheltered cove.
I'm looking forward to doing this again my next trip out there. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who would like " a day on the water" and not be on a huge commercial boat with a lot of strangers.

Time on the water was great. When Captain Dan turned off the motor and raised the sails, you felt the magic of the wind. Dan keeps it as calm or as active as you want and everyone steps off the boat with that special smile for the rest of day. Can’t wait to do it again soon.

Absolutely recommend! Super captain, made everyone comfortable, great story telling about the area, but most importantly a great sail...! We did the 2:30pm cruise, the way back was amazing sunset, moon rise, as picturesque and relaxing as you dream about. The highlight of our vacation in Ft Lauderdale.

We are a family of four visiting in May 2020 - would we be the only passengers, and also if we went snorkelling/ swimming is it easy to get back on the boat after - as I am neither light nor nimble!
Written September 20, 2019
If you ask the captain to take you swimming at a calm area and not in the ocean the water should be calm enough for you to get back up the ladder. I am not a tiny or limber person and I did not have an issue and we were out in the ocean. Captain Dan is great and will help you in whatever way he can. You will have a great time. Enjoy!
