- Harry D00Experience we’ll never forgetChristian took my girlfriend and I on the 2 hour tour around the mangroves. The volume of wildlife that we saw was genuinely incredible, especially the alligators! Everything was enhanced by Christian’s outstanding knowledge of the area, it’s history, it’s wildlife and it’s future which filled our time with fascinating conversation. Would highly recommend the trip to anyone looking to experience the Everglades. Thanks Christian you were an awesome host!
- markbS8193PF00Ideal way to experience Turner River and Mangrove TunnelsMy wife and I went on the 3 hr Mangrove Tunnel Kayak Tour Small Group Adventure in early March 2023. The trip was phenomenal from start to finish. Our guide (Christian) was extremely knowledgable about the area, ecosystem, fish, bird, reptile and mammal life. He brought tremendous enthusiasm to the tour and the 3 hours passed by extremely quickly. We saw things we would never have noticed on our own and learned a great deal about all that we saw. In addition, Christian took time to help us plan or paddle for the next day to and around Sandfly Island , enhancing that trip as well. Thank you Alli and Justin for providing a top-notch organization, and thank you Christian for an unforgettable experience.
- racheled54300Exceptional Customer Service. My husband and I had almost arrived at the kayak launch when we came upon an accident that had the road completely closed. The closure went on nearly the entire day which resulted in us not being able to attend the tour. Even still, I felt compelled to write about the EXCEPTIONAL customer service we experienced with Alli. “Top knotch” is an understatement. Alli was incredible right from the start. Upon booking our experience, Alli texted me to ask if I would prefer to meet at the Kayak ramp which would save me 20 minutes from the original meeting point. To ensure that I made it to the right location she sent a pinned location to my iPhone. She answered all of my questions and provided helpful driving instructions. Every time I texted Alli about the delay she was prompt, helpful and reassuring that they would work to rebook us on a later tour. She was incredibly compassionate about the whole thing. When booking with this company, I loved that they were a husband & wife small business. What would make me recommend them again and again is the service I received. 10/10!
- Trail51053700Very accomodating guide for a fun and informative experrienceWe signed up for a 2-hour kayaking tour into mangrove tunnels. About 10 minutes into the trip we realized that the tour was too strenuous for us (we are healthy 70 somethings). The guide James was very accomodating and changed the itinerary to a slow paddling along the shorelines, that still included very interesting information about the flora and fauna. We were very pleased that we still were able to have a fun and informative experience
- katiegV7744KI00Mangrove kayak tourI feel super lucky that we picked Shurr for our kayak tour. Christian was great. Extremely knowledgeable about everything from the native history of the area, to all the nature that surrounds you on this tour. My wife was apprehensive about kayaking that close to the gators, but he was super patient and helped her through the tight spots. I couldn't recommend Shurr or Christian enough. They are are a first class outfit.
- DoingTheBestICan00Gators and turtles and egrets, oh joy! What an amazing experience! It is magical to be able to see the mangrove tunnels from the inside. It's more like being a bona fide part of nature rather than simply an observer. James, our guide, was wonderful in every way – friendly, considerate, and aware at all times of how everyone on the tour was doing. The gear was already set up when we arrived at the kayak site so, after some lessons, we were ready to go. James is also experienced and knowledgeable about the preserve and the wildlife we could expect to see and, lucky for us, he has a keen eye! We saw baby alligators that had stacked themselves like firewood to keep warm and James alerted us that mama would be close by. (She obviously didn't find us threatening since she didn't make an appearance!) We saw baby turtles, plenty of beautiful birds, and two more alligators sleepily sunning themselves. Apparently, the two are regulars on the route and have been given names by the guides. I also want to say how glad I am that we chose Shurr Adventures. They have a long history of leading kayak tours in the Everglades, they make sure everyone feels comfortable and safe in the kayak before taking off, and they keep the tour group small. We are getting a little older and had only one brief kayaking experience prior to signing up for the mangrove tunnel tour with Shurr Adventures. We were a little nervous about the weather (wind in particular), and Alli Shurr responded to our questions quickly and with understanding. We're super glad we went and strongly recommend this tour for anyone, regardless of age or prior experience! Thank you Alli and Justin Shurr AND James, the best guide ever.
- vacation234900Amazing Kayak Experience with ShurrThis was an amazing experience and a must-do if you are visiting Florida. We had a group of 9 ranging in ages from 11-76 (including one recovering from a broken leg) and everyone had a great time. My family took an airboat tour of the Everglades years ago, and this was a much better way to experience the Everglades. The kayaks were very comfortable, and getting in and out of the water was very easy - particularly since Shurr set everything up in advance of our launch, so we can get going right away on the tour. We were treated like VIP throughout the entire process, from the very personal booking process through our excellent and knowledgeable guide Christian. Christian got us right up close to the wildlife and alligators, but also made us feel that if survival came down to a fight between Christian and the alligator - then the alligator was going to have a bad day. Thank you Shurr and Christian for an unforgettable family experience.
- Lisa B00Kayak tour of rookery bay mangroves in Naples flExcellent guides, customer service and knowledgeable - would highly recommend for your outdoor adventure tours!
- HayleyN22700Great advice and careWhile we never actually took a trip with Shurr Adventures Everglades, Alli was such a caring and generous person that she refunded us the night before our trip becuase she was soo concerned that the trip we booked would not be very comfortable or enjoyable, considering I was pregnant. She even recommended another tour company which in the end was a much better fit for us. I hope one day we will be able to come back and take this tour and meet Alli to say thanks!
- JAMESLMT00Excellent Turner River full-length adventureWe had an absolutely fantastic adventure paddling the full 10-mile length of the Turner River Trail with our fabulous guide, Trey. Trey was a lot of fun and we never, ever could have ventured as far as we did through the mangrove tunnels and sawgrass mazes without his expert guidance. And Shurr was really helpful with the ground logistics. I will absolutely call Shurr Adventures the next time I want to get out and really explore the Everglades. Thank you!
- WarrenWood00Beautiful Everglades Kayak TripAppreciated their flexibility when the weather cancelled our morning private kayak tour. Weather was a bit rough but we caught a good break for a sunset tour. Viewed lots of beautiful birds, good informative and fun guide. Observed some gators along kayak path. Mangrove tunnels were fun and we were very glad we were able to make a trip work.
- Boris U00Totally worth the time and priceI participated in an Everglades Kayak tour and this was the best experience I could have asked for. The guide was professional, courteous and knowledgeable. Everything was on time and ready for us. The tour itself was serene and breathtaking at the same time - being few feet away from a gator (and there were quite a few of them around) in a kayak just a foot or so above ground is something that seems totally foreign from somebody from Colorado. It was a 2 hour drive each way for me from where we stayed in Fort Lauderdale, but it was totally worth it! The company is great too - I called few places asking for a last minute spot on a kayaking tour in Everglades and they were the only ones who not only called me back (or picked up the phone), but also made an effort to accommodate me. If we're ever back in the area, they'd definitely be on my to-do list
- David B00ExcellentWe went on this adventure not knowing exactly what to expect. It turns out we went from not knowing to learning quite a lot about this part of the Everglades. Equally important, maybe even more importantly, we had so much fun. Patrick was our guide and frankly he made the trip. He was of course knowledgeable, and made the trip way interesting, but also he created a great overall experience. We saw only a few other paddlers on the river - definitely not a big tourist scene. We also met Alli, the owner - she was super nice, and left Patrick to guide us. Her confidence in him is well placed. The "river" we went down was beautiful, peaceful, and we did see a number of gaiters. The mangrove tunnels were mysterious (we actually did learn how these tunnels come about, so no longer mysterious), something out of Lord of the Rings. The paddle was not really taxing; it was pretty mellow. I think this is the type of trip that kids would love and remember. Who doesn't remember their first alligator. Overall - go go go!!!
- christinam58000A must do adventure but "private" not worth the extra $$We booked a private sunset through the Mangroves not knowing it's the same route as all the other tours that are much less expensive. while it was nice having our own smaller group, you still pass other tour groups (frequently very loud) so it wasn't very helpful to be "private". Patrick, our guide, was great guy but can't say we learned much (not anything more then we'd already learned during other random tourist stops). The mangroves are a must due but save the money and just book a regular tour.
- Anonymous5751700Lovely excursionThis was a great family kayak trip through an absolutely beautiful part of the Everglades. P. B. with Shurr Adventures was an excellent guide, and took it at just the right pace. We were fortunate to see Lucy the alligator up close (but not too close). Note: When I booked through TripAdvisor, it incorrectly booked us for the other ocean kayak excursion that Shurr offers. Ms. A, the owner, called us in the morning to confirm, and got us all straightened out. We would definitely book with Shurr again! Thanks!

I have wanted to kayak in the Everglades for 30 years and this trip filled all of my expectations! Doug was excellent in every way! Helpful, patient and extremely knowledgeable and experienced. We saw gators at all stages of life and never felt fearful as Doug knows their favorite spots and gave us plenty of warning! Of course they move, but he prepared us for that as well. The group size was small and manageable and the kayaks stable enough for inexperienced paddlers. They brought snacks and bug spray and everything we needed to be comfortable! I highly recommend this trip to anyone who dreams of experiencing the Everglades close up!

Doug was an exceptional guide for our afternoon kayak tour of Turner River and the mangrove tunnels. Every need we might have was top priority from ponchos for the possible sprinkle to snacks and Safety! Doug was considerate always being sure to position his kayak between ours and the gators we met Along the way. As a learning kayak paddler I felt completely comfortable and able to keep up for this beautiful three hour ride. Thanks Doug! Happy paddling!! Pic by Doug 😎

I booked this tour last minute, texting Alli and registering the evening before online. She specified a meeting point, where 3 cars gathered and followed her a few miles to the put-in site, where the kayaks were waiting for us. Alli led an excellent, informative tour upstream and down, making our time. She knows the birds, plants, and animals of the area and made sure we didn't miss a thing as we paddled. When a large alligator would't move out of our path in a narrow tunnel, she carefully positioned her kayak over him and guided us safely past. We'd definitely book with Shurr again.

My parents, my husband and I went on this amazing trip. First of all, thanks Alli for reaching out to us in advance to confirm the details about our trip. And then a big thanks to our guide James who was very friendly and also professional in guiding people to kayak in mangroves forest. He tought us some very useful kayaking techniques since we didn't know much about it. He's also very experienced in identifying wildlife on the way. The route is amazing, we saw several kinds of herons, egrets, cormorant, an osprey and other birds too. The best part was passing by several gators, especially a mama gator with her squeaking babies! They're all quite used to kayaks and just peacefully let us pass through. The mangrove forest was very pretty and fun to float through (though it's very twisted and complicated we would probably get lost without our guide). Several hours of kayaking is definitely a fair amount of exercise, but we really enjoyed it. James very thoughtfully brought a full bag (>2 pounds) of energy snacks for us, as well as safety vests, waterproof bags for phones and other stuff, he even got straps for glasses to prevent them from accidentally fall into water. Amazing! Thanks James!
I definitely recommend this activity to anyone that loves nature and want to get close to wildlife, it's really worth it!

Amazing event and service! If you have found this post, you probably know that there are plenty of companies to choose from for a kayak tour. Only a certain number of licenses are granted for specific launch spots, so there is friendly competition for them. Although I can’t compare the other companies, I can say that we were extremely happy with Shurr Adventures. My wife and I already have a good history with kayaking, but our guide, Evan, was friendly, knowledgeable, and experienced. He took care of everything. The sunrise event is great for those, like us, that want less sun along with beautiful skies, gators, birds, and those mangroves. I highly recommend this company and would book with them again in a heartbeat!

Our family (all beginners) had a great time exploring the mangrove tunnels. We went on the 1:30 tour, and our guide was Evan. He was punctual, polite, knowledgeable and we were made to feel comfortable from the very start! We met at the visitor center and followed his van to the launch site (covid procedure) and there we received all the gear we needed, including a rain poncho- which we ended up using. The pace was great and we saw many alligators and birds including one that Evan hadn't seen before, so that was cool! It was so quiet and beautiful- like paddling into a different world for a few hours. We would totally recommend this trip and Shurr Adventures to friends! Communication booking the trip was excellent too. Thanks!

What an interesting and informative trip through the mangroves! Our guide Bernie was fun and punctual and professional, taking care of all the details to get us launched. One participant was a kayaking novice. At the start of the trip, she panicked several times, getting stuck and knocking into people and was constantly near tears. Bernie calmly gave her instructions and encouragement each time so she could learn to right the situation herself. By the mid-point of the trip his help had her paddling confidently, and we were all laughing and sharing stories. We saw all the hoped for animals and the epiphyte air plants among the mangroves created a magical forest.
Ali did a wonderful job of answering all questions via text before the trip so all was taken care of before arrival. Overall, it was a fun and pleasant experience. And very professional.

Extremely fun. Doug, our guide set the good energy right from the beginning. We cruised by gators (who Doug seemed to know personally), learned about the birds, the wildlife and natural and invasive species. I was also impressed with Doug's guiding ability. It was hard to keep people of different skill levels together, but it never felt too fast or too slow. He was really attentive to everyone when it started to rain a bit. We had the BEST TIME! Definitely recommend this trip. And if you're worried about your kayaking skills, just go tandem in the same kayak with your friend. Lots of people were doing it.

Alli Shurr was by far the most helpful kayak outfitter I contacted for my Everglades trip, helping us to pick the best kayak option for our group and give us some other excellent local recommendations as well. Our guide Christian was deeply knowledgable about the Everglades flora and fauna, but most importantly he is clearly passionate about preserving and sharing the Everglades. If you want to have a really intimate experience and get away from the airboat crowd I highly recommend a trip with Shurr adventures!

My husband and I did the Mangrove Tunnel kayak trip on March 7 in the afternoon and it was a highlight of our weeklong trip to Florida. We appreciated the small group size (us and 4 others, plus the guide). Guide Joe was personable and very knowledgeable, beginning with safety information, and then providing information about the plants, animals, ecosystems and history of the area. We saw numerous alligators (including juveniles), turtles, herons, egrets, snail kites and more. Being able to explore the waterway at a slow pace gave us the opportunity to see the plants and wildlife at a close but safe distance, in a low impact way. We are avid paddlers but this trip would be manageable for people with little or no paddling experience - the water is shallow and very calm. Highly recommended!

Hi, I will be traveling alone. Will I be able to paddle my own kayak, or will I be required to pair up with someone?

I think the company had single kayaks. I actually think single might be easier than a double - a little more maneuverable. I took a smaller child in my kayak and so did most of the work anyway. In terms of fitness/endurance, it’s not terribly difficult. The water is very still. If you can hike for two hours, you could do this.

Is there a minimum age? It appears that one has to be minimum 13 years old? My son is 12 and an excellent swimmer with a good bit of experience in a boat; wondering if he'd be able to do this.
I am wondering if there is anything we can do after the tour. Hiking or biking? Air boat?
