- TaylorJohnson0 contributionsenjoyableMy fiancé just moved to the area a few months ago. When we found out there was a ghost tour, we became super excited. We loved the tour so much. It was interesting to find out the history and stories about the city we live in now. Not to mention we are big history lovers, so if you are as well for sure do this tour.Written August 9, 2016
- lafprop0 contributions"Great"This tour was great. We visited from out of state so we got to see alot of things we wouldn't have noticed on our own. Christine our tour guide was great. She was informative about each place we stopped at. It's a comfortable pace so you can enjoy. I highly recommend.Written June 6, 2016
- norma c0 contributionsMeeting locationTour was not bad. I suggest you wear sneakers. Our tour guide was great and friendly. We arrived late because of the address issue and he called and waited for us to arrive. I really appreciated that. Online the location that is emailed to you is not clear. In addition if you google the location it gives you the location of a mall in another town 30 minutes away. I decided to drop a pin at the meeting location to help others who may have the same issue. The address is: 945 Bridgeport Ave Shelton, CT 06484 United States It is right in front of a TD Bank. There also is a wishing well. Enjoy!Written May 21, 2016
- 49Robin0 contributionsGhosts of New Haven Walking TourMy experience was a pleasure. Chrystyne was our Tour Guide and she was wonderful. The history that you take away from this tour is worth every penny. The fact to is that you cover 15 different locations and then some in a comfortable walking distance is a plus too. Keep an open mind, go for a nice dinner and make a memory with family/friends. The fact that our tour guide is a Psychic/Medium didn't hurt the tour any as far as the ghostly history of the tour!!Written January 4, 2015
- Kimberley4400 contributionsIs this legit? a personal check for a refund that is scribbled by a 2 year old...after they canceledOkay, I can't say I went on the tour, I can tell you my sister and my experience before we even went! Glad we didn't, judging from the reviews! We booked online with Groupon....48 hours before, we got a sorry...your tour has been canceled.. please go online and rebook...there were seven of us... After going back and forth asking for dates, and just getting the automatic email, we finally got a person, Jessie, to tell us that we can rebook anytime after the next Sunday... This is after a week of back and forth..I left a voice message, and never got a response..however..I got 3 rude, snippy emails from Jessie before we just said...refund our money.. Well, they ask for you to pay with paypal or credit card...I did with a credit card. It took 6 days, but I get a check in the mail with a card that it looks like a 2 year old wrote, unreadable. It looks like scribble on the check and the card. It comes from a New York address with a 4th floor apartment....Mind you the check number is 126, so the check is from a new account? This does not smell good to me...So, I have now asked for them to refund my money the same way they got it...I do not do personal or business checks when I do not know if they do not look legit... I am contacting Groupon and sending a copy of this along with the list of nasty emails...Written October 12, 2013
- C B0 contributionsYes, it was that badWhen I bought this on groupon, this seemed like a quirky, fun, not-too-expensive evening. It was a rip-off. If I had a nickel for every time the guide said, "I can't remember," or "I should have read my script better before we began," then I would have my money back. The tour was 45 minutes, not 90. In that time, we walked half a mile down one side of the street. We crossed the street and then walked not even all the way back up the other side of the same street. We walked through the cemetery and nothing was pointed out other than a monument for Lyman Hall, who isn't even buried here. The stories were generic and there was almost no history. Fellow participants had the most interesting stories and there seemed to be general agreement that the tour was not delivering.Written August 17, 2013
- Philip B0 contributionsThis tour is Great if you want to waste time and moneyMyself and my lovely wife did the ghost tour. We did not see any ghost sites or hear any ghost stories. It was during the freaking day on top of that. The tour guide sucked and she had the nerve to ask for tips at the end. Strangers I met on the street were more informative about ghosts in the area and the hot spots to hit. Our tour guide did not hit the hot spots. We drove over three hours from NYC for this crap. I wasted 20 bucks on gas to get here. The only redeeming value of the tour was the fact I went with my friends whom I haven't seen in a while. DO NOT GO ON THIS TOUR. THE SCARY PART IS THE MONEY YOU WASTE!!Written June 18, 2013
- J D0 contributionsDisappointedSo looked forward to this tour. The attractions/stops on the tour were interesting, but that is where the good ends. The tour guide was not very knowledgeable with regards to the city of New Haven. I am from the area and was hoping to learn more about the city I grew up near. The tour guide was not very focused or well versed. She seemed to stumble with her facts and did not emit confidence. She even was a bit sarcastic. I think she was trying to be witty, but most of the time her comments were inappropriate. The stories probably had more background to them, but much seemed to be omitted or not even pertinent. At one stop she talked about another site in another city and never told a story about the stop we were at. She said that she was the manager of the local office of this company. I would have expected more knowledge from a person in this position. Glad I only paid half price through Groupon.Written April 29, 2013
- 98Nicoler980 contributionsDisappointingThis was, sadly, a rather disappointing tour. Not very engaging, not presented well, and not good story-telling at all. Also, I found it unexpectantly lacking in the local understanding and telling of the myths, folklore and old-time well-versed legends and stories we all heard growing up in this city. A few inaccuracies regarding certain actual, factual dates (deaths, events historically recorded). Not a good sign for a guided tour. Should have a well researched knowledge of a city in which you're giving a "guided tour".The storytelling was just...flat. Somewhat amateurish. Not worth the $12 ticket, at all.Written April 28, 2013
- Dave G0 contributionsGood history lesson, maybe a little spookyIf you want to see a ghost, try another venue. It's possible, but unlikely. If you want a running commentary on the sites known or believed to be haunted, go have a ball. Our guide, Kate, was informative and downright funny. The best part was that as new sites are identified they are incorporated into the tour. Prices run from from $25.00 but a little searching online (Groupon)m will result in better rates. Call ahead to make reservations up through mid-December and hold your girlfriend's hand tightly.Written November 11, 2012

We had a very interesting walk around most of the Yale campus and learned much about unique history of campus locations and activities of the past. Unfortunately the cemetery was closed during our visit so that part of the tour had to be improvised. Otherwise, our guide, John, was very knowledgeable and personable while touting our rather large group around.

It was very difficult to book this tour. We had a very hard time contacting the organizers of the tour. When we finally did I was reluctant to give them a credit card number over the phone for fear of a scam because of the way the booking was handled.
The person giving the tour was very nice and did her best on a very cold, windy night. We were appalled when the family of three that were also on the tour left without giving her a tip.

Pros: Fun outdoor, ghost tour of Yale. Spooky stories. Nice to walk around at night.
Cons: tour guide (Morbid Madelyn) was 15 mins late due to a street fair she said she didn’t know about, but then she ended the tour 10 mins early…

We enjoyed our tour throughly! Our guide (whose name I am sadly forgetting, a lovely man in a kilt), regaled us with stories of the city's history and more macabre moments. He was happy to be flexible, as we were running a couple minutes late to find parking (advice to others, give yourself plenty of time and expect to park quite a ways away from the meeting spot if it's a busy evening downtown). I've been on ghost tours in other cities that really leaned on the gore and gimmicks. This one was nice and balanced for ghost- believers and skeptics alike, and just relied on good storytelling (dark conspiracies, spooky stories, slices of life/death, and some more comic mishaps). It was especially interesting to learn how the history of the "town vs. gown" has played out over the centuries, and ways people have experienced the supernatural in this uniquely American city.

Tried to reserve a tour on 12/19/20 for me, my bf and my friend and her date, but the employees within this company were unprofessional. First time the manager called he asked if me and my group could reschedule to the 18th, which I said no because we honestly couldn't. Next he called me 2 days prior to the 19th to ask if we could reschedule our tour from the designated 7:30pm time to 9:30pm because his tour guide was working another job. Although I already felt the scheduling issues were unprofessional, I decided to work with New Haven Ghost Tours. I know it's been a hard year, so no problem, I moved all my dinner reservations around so 9:30pm could work. The day of, maybe 3 hours prior, I received a call stating our tour guide had sprained his ankle and couldn't give us a tour. After receiving the previous two calls it is very difficult for me to believe just 3 hours prior to our tour that our tour guide in fact had sprained his ankle. If it is true, then I hope he gets better soon. Regardless, the several phone calls asking me to move my schedule around was unprofessional. If the tours are advertised as Friday & Saturday nights at 7:30pm, I'm not sure why their employees wouldn't be available. I have a marketing and customer service background so I understand stuff happens, but the multiple strikes of unprofessionalism/flakiness made a sour impression on me. If New Haven Ghost Tours had advertised their business hours as based on availability and/or had let me know from the first phone call that Saturday was very difficult for them, then no problem, I wouldn't be writing this review. Again, stuff happens and we can't control everything. What we can control is how we respond to a situation and I felt in this case, New Haven Ghost Tour handled this unprofressionally.

The tour guide (Kelly) didn’t know much about the history of the city, and didn’t make the ghosts interesting at all. We were given obvious information that could be read on plaques on the wall (Yale buildings have a blue plaque - that says ‘Yale’) or easily found by ourselves. Covid made it difficult as we couldn’t go inside anywhere, but that would have only improved it marginally. In need of serious improvement to make it interesting and worth anywhere near $25 per person.

Our guide had a good energy that just made me want to listen to every word she had to say. Advice to others is to wear walking shoes and dress for the weather although I had no issues personally. It was a great experience that made me feel much more connected to the area.

Haunted walking tour? It was more like I walking night tour of the Yale University campus. This tour was beyond disappointing and our guide continually forgot information despite him telling us he’d been doing the tour for over a year. I would save your money unless you’re a prospective Yale student.

When we got to the meeting place for the tour, our guide was there just scrolling on her phone. She asked if we were there for the ghost tour then went straight back to her phone. When she started the tour (15 min late) she didn’t introduce herself (I still have no idea what her name was), didn’t welcome us, just told us to follow her across the street. She really seemed not to care about giving a good tour at all. Her story telling often failed to connect the dots unless someone asked. Why does Cornelius Vanderbilt’s ghost haunt a Yale dormitory? I asked, but I’m not sure she knew the answer, other than the building is named after him, which doesn’t really make sense. I could go on, but you get the picture. The tour was advertised as 90 minutes but ours barely lasted 60 minutes. Not worth the money.

We went on a ghost tour of new haven with Madeline Morbid (we loved the name!) and it was fascinating. So much history and eeriness happening in familiar places. Madeline Morbid was very knowledgeable, engaging, and made the otherworldly feel close!
