Overview
Float down the Lower Animas River on this 4.5-hour family-friendly rafting trip in Durango. As you glide over the rapids with a guide, you can enjoy views of Durango from the water and take in the natural beauty south of town. Stop on the riverside for a snack, and listen to stories about the history and traditions of the region. This is a mild rafting option for ages 4 years and up. Select a morning or afternoon departure time when booking.
What to Expect
Your tour starts in either the morning or afternoon at the rafting tour office, where you'll sign a waiver form and get ready for your trip down Durango's Lower Animas River.

After a shuttle ride to the river, listen to a safety briefing and some instructions, and then hop on your raft and hit the water. With your guide in charge of the raft, you'll paddle along, navigating the Train Bridge Rapid, Baby Smelter, and Class III Smelter Rapid.

Pull over on the riverbank for a snack of granola bars and fruit, and then continue rafting along the Sawmill, Santa Rita, and Pinball rapids, depending on the flow. Your tour ends with the shuttle ride back to the rafting office, roughly four hours after your departure time.

We went in July, and the water level was a little lower than normal. However, it was slowly rising back to normal.
