About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- uabamagirl920 contributionsFantastic ExperienceHIGHLY RECOMMEND! I was visiting Colorado too early for snow fun so we were looking for something different to do. We chose the Royal Gorge Jeep and Train Tours. Different kind of mountain ranges (desert) and absolutely breathtaking. Colorado Jeep Tours is top notch and the customer service and people are wonderful. Mike was our guide in the Jeep and he knows everything you could want to know. We were so engrossed in everything we didn't need to take pictures while driving. He stopped in great places for photo ops for us. The train (make sure you go outside to the open air car) was so fun and they had guides on the train to point out landmarks, animals and interesting information and history of the gorge and range.Written November 7, 2024

Above all, the jeep was not meant to carry more than 6 adults comfortably. There were 7 adults on our ride and 4 of us were crammed on one bench, which makes for an incredibly uncomfortable 3.5 hours with zero leg space to stretch your legs. If the people on your bench are large or downright overweight you are literally going to be crammed into a corner with zero room like I was. We did the half-day tour and that was miserable….I can’t fathom doing the full day tour in those conditions.
The PA system in the jeep was not loud enough on some parts of the trip so be prepared to miss out on information. If you enjoy stopping to talk about the local cemetery and prison then you’re in luck….I guess this is what the website was referring to regarding “historical” parts of the community. I was pretty disappointed with the small amount of time at the Gorge relative to the rest of the tour but the fine layer of dust from the trails left us with a reminder of where we spent most of our time. We did see some deer and stopped to take some photos. Additionally, the tour has to stop at a few gates so the driver can unlock and reposition them…the heat of the day and cramped conditions make this really annoying.
If you enjoy genuine jeep trail riding then this will please you once you get away from the pointless tour of the local area but don’t expect to get out and explore much. Most of the stops were spent just sitting in the hot, dusty & cramped bench area of the jeep while our guide gave us an uninspiring and humorless description of the rocks and trees around us while using laminated display cards to give us the real information. For the money I would rather just travel to the Gorge myself and spend some actual time there instead of showing to the visitors center that was closing in 5 minutes.

We took this tour on January 2nd, which coincided with a rare snowfall the previous day. We were a group of 7 ranging from ages 16 to 49. Booking was ready because of Jennifer and Will. I booked online but had some questions which both of them answered professionally. We arrived for our tour and got checked on and introduced to Wyatt. He was an AMAZING tour guide! We are from Florida and we're concerned about being cold in the 15 degree weather. No problems. They put the plastic windows on the jeep, cranked up the heat and even have us lap blankets. They will do everything within their post to ensure your comfort and fun. The tour was filled with interesting stories about the history of Canon city, Colorado and the old west. It was VERY interesting for all of us and kept us very engaged. We felt very safe even on the treacherous road because of the weather but enjoyed the bumps and adventure of a 4×4 tour. We saw big horn sheep, deer and a bald eagle. The drive over the royal gorge Bridge was awesome! Highly recommend! Thanks team for a great day filled with adventure, history and family memories!

We ended up having some trouble getting there on time, but they were very accommodating as we were only 10 minutes or so late. They let us take our dog along which was agreed upon previously. Fun tour, great tour guide. It was really fun getting to drive over the Royal Gorge while others had to walk from the parking lot. Very informative tour. It did get hot and the tour guide had cold waters for everyone.

Mike was an excellent driver and tour guide! My daughter and I were the only riders this tour. Mike pointed out local points of interest around town, the countryside and then drove to a high point lookout over the Rayal Gorge. We then descended and drove across the Royal Gorge Bridge. We stopped in the Park for about 30 minutes to look around (restrooms, gift shop, restaurant). With the cost of our ticket for this tour, we also received entrance tickets for this Park. Great photo op of the gorge here.

My husband and I, along with our two teens (ages 14 &16), had an amazing time. Our guide, Brandon, was very friendly and knowledgeable of the area and history, along with making our trip so much fun. Will, the owner, was so helpful prior to setting up the trip. He thoroughly explained each of the tours to me, what to expect, etc.
Not only was the Royal Gorge amazing, but we went on the zip line as well. It's not as scary as it seems and the view from above the gorge as you zip line across is spectacular.
I highly recommend Colorado Jeep Tours if you're thinking about taking an off road tour and seeing some of Colorado's beautiful sites that you would never see yourself. Also, the Colorado Jeep Tour company exclusively takes its guests through the back entrance of the Royal Gorge, which was an added plus.

Highly recommend this tour! You get to see so many different areas surrounding the Royal Gorge area, Cañon City and cross the Royal Gorge bridge in the jeep. Once you arrive at the bridge area, the tour stops so you can walk around and see the beautiful views. Then continues down to the meeting sight. Brandon our tour guide was very knowledgeable on the history of the land and answered any questions we had! This is a must do on your next Colorado Springs vacation!

We would give six stars if we could! What a great time we had! Tom was our guide and he is just a fountain of information about the area, wildlife and plants! If you do not have a good time on this excursion, then it is your own fault and maybe you should just stay home. It is well worth the money and we learned so much about the area! Yes there is rough riding, but you're in a Jeep for goodness sakes! You kind of expect that! We came to Colorado all the way from Florida. My husband is from the Denver area, and he said this is the best tour he's ever been on! Well worth the money! Next time we come we will be sure to book another tour with this amazing company! Thank you for the great memories!

Brandon was our driver. He was a great safe driver. We loved the whole trip and never seem to be rushed. We saw deer along the way. The higlight was driving across the Royal Gorge Bridge( only way you can drive over the bridge with a tour). The drive up to the top of the mountain was a fun 4x4 ride. We got tickets to go back that day or the next. After the train ride the next day we went to the Bridge and walked across. Excellent tour company.

We learned so much about the entire area thanks to our guide Brandon. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. There was great value in the tour in so many ways such as the dinosaur tracks, the Royal Gorge, the skyline drive, and the opportunity to see wildlife that we would have never seen. Very, very pleased with the entire trip thanks to Brandon!

This hidden gem of a town, at least I have never heard of it, is made all the nicer when you take a jeep tour to the Royal Gorge. It is an adventure traveling in a jeep with our guide, Suzanne. She is very knowledgeable of the surroundings and had a lot of interesting anecdotes. Our Jeep did break down, luckily at the bridge site, but she got us right on another jeep with another guide, Coach, who took our group for awhile and was very welcoming of us. Suzanne was able to get another jeep and picked us up again so that we could continue our journey with her. All of this was without missing a beat of the tour, so very professionally done by this company and the guides. It was an extremely hot day, but Suzanne provided us with plenty of water which was so nice! I would definitely take this tour again because we got to explore areas that the general public cannot get to. I would love to visit Canon City again now that I know about it because it holds a rich history of the west.
There were some naughty, biting flies on some portions of the ride, but that is no fault of the company, but I would bring some bug spray that may help and something with which to whack those little buggers.
All in all a great trip at the 1:00 time slot and the bridge area also sells food, alcohol, and other beverages too so you can get a nibble during that stop on the trip. Just do the trip! It is fun!

We are driving up from Albuquerque and need to know what time the tour begins

When you book the tour, there are time slots to pick. The town is very neat, I would pick an early time so you have extra time to look around.

Do you just GO to Pikes Peak, or do you drive it (in the Jeep) to the top?
Looks like a fabulous itinerary for the rest of the items
Aug-Sep 2022
Written August 4, 2020
The itinerary we went on does not take you to Pikes Peak, but to the Royal Gorge. The jeep tour took us off-road through the hills/mountains to the back side (south rim) of the Royal Gorge. We then took the zip line across the Royal Gorge. That was fun! After going across the Gorge, the jeep then took us back through the hills and other places that are mentioned on their website. Colorado Jeep Tours is a reliable company with exceptional customer service. I do know there are jeep companies that go to Pikes Peak as well. We personally drove up to Pikes Peak and enjoyed the scenery and drive. I highly recommend going in the morning before the clouds set in, whether you drive it yourself or go with a jeep tour company. They are doing a lot of construction at the peak, but the scenery is still beautiful. We were able to see everything for miles from the top. Years ago we took the Cog Train (which is under repair) to the top, but having drove it this time, I would prefer to drive it again. Hope this helps.

Where is the meeting point (address)? All I see is Canon City. Thank you.
Written June 28, 2019
Not sure of the actual address without looking it up, but it's on the main street through town, across the street from McDonalds.

Hi are the Royal Gorge admissions ticket included when i book from TripAdvisor?
Written June 15, 2019
Technically, no. But the tour DOES go over the bridge, and you have about 10 minutes to take photos and use the restrooms. You can't drive over the bridge any more in your private car, so that's kind of cool. Also, you cannot enter the gift shop without buying admission.

We will be coming from central Kansas and bringing our little dog with us. Can we bring him on the tour?
Written July 18, 2018
Yes, but restrictions: If a "lap dog", it has to fit/sit on your lap or bag carrier -- no charge. If bigger, it stays on floor; there is a child's price for that. A legitimate service dog, no charge regardless of size. Go online to sign the waiver; you MUST book in advance to be accompanied by a dog. Have fun with your canine!

Will there be time to zip line or do the sky coaster during the trip?
Written June 20, 2018
Hi Stacie - I apologize for the slow response time. We are super busy and I just saw your question. Yes, the zip line can be done during the tour if you select the Jeep & Zip option. We drop you off on the south rim of the gorge where you zip across. Anyone who doesn't want to zip stays in the jeep and we drive across, then we pick up the "zippers" on the north gorge rim and finish the jeep tour. Unfortunately, there is no time to do any of the other rides during the tour unless you go back to the park later. The good thing is that a normal admission price is $27/person to the Bridge & Park but after you take our Royal Gorge 1/2 Day jeep tour, it's only $9/person with our voucher. So, you can go back to the bridge after the jeep tour and do all the rides you wish. I hope this answers your question. Thank you for asking! -- Susie

Can you accommodate a person in a wheelchair?
Written June 20, 2018
Hi Lorrie, yes, we will do everything we can to make that happen! We normally reserve the front passenger seat for people with disabilities who might need the extra support of the 3-point harness seatbelt, compared to the lap belts in most other seats on our custom jeeps. The only thing is that since the jeeps only hold from 7-9 people maximum, we have no storage and cannot take the wheelchair on tour. Our guides will assist in getting the person in/out of the vehicle if they can safely do so without anyone getting hurt. In any case, it helps us to know ahead of time if someone has special needs (mobility, deaf, service dogs, etc) so we can do our best to be prepared for the situation. Please call our office to make a reservation, and feel free to call any time if we can help with anything. Thank you very much for your question! --Susie
