      Highly Recommend!!
Our work team enjoyed a tour with Dawnie as a team building time. It was AMAZING. The food was great, the history we learned was interesting. We had a lot of fun spending the afternoon tasting yummy food, learning the history of the area and viewing local murals along the way. I lived in the Sacramento area my entire life and never new this existed. I wish I had know sooner! I am telling all my friends and family to go and enjoy a tour. You will have a great time.

So much fun! Dannie had great information about the food, the history, the murals, the artists. She was fun, personable, and professional. We got a sampling of local fare.

      Best Food Tour
A friend and I participated in the Midtown Arts Tour on a sunny Saturday afternoon in May. While the tour takes approximately 3 hours, it actually wasn't that much walking. Our group consisted of 12 people plus our guide...friends, an old couple, a brand new couple, and even a father & daughter. I cannot say enough good things about our tour. Our guide (and co-owner), Dawnie, was both knowledgeable, professional, personable, and interesting. (She shared that she sometimes teaches a class at CSUS on the sociology of food, which explains her vast knowledge.) On the way from one restaurant to the next, we stopped and admired and learned about a few of Sacramento's many murals. This tour was a bit pricier than one that I enjoyed in Victoria in 2022, but we enjoyed a LOT more food on this tour! Know that the stops can vary from tour to tour, but this is what we enjoyed while learning about the food history of the greater Sacramento region: 1st Stop: Taco al Pastor and Margaritas 2nd Stop: Organic Coffee, Tea or Hot Chocolate 3rd Stop: A variety of Thai food 4th Stop: A variety of Vegan food I am a total carnivore, yet I really enjoyed the food here! 5th and Final Stop: Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches. I have lived in Sacramento since the mid-'80s and taught here for 30+ years, yet I learned things about my city that I did not know and enjoyed 4 restaurants that I had not previously visited. To be honest, I had not even heard of 2 of the places. If you are visiting Sacramento or are a local who wants to discover some hidden gems in your city . . . don't hesitate to book this tour!

      Book this tour!! Amazing!!
We had an incredible time with Dawnie on our Midtown Arts & History Food Tour! She’s so knowledgeable and passionate about Sacramento, its history, art and food. Dawnie’s energy is so fun, she’s very attentive and personable!! We only had 1 day in Sacramento on our road trip, and we truly couldn’t have picked a better way to spend our time here. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Sacramento!!

      Beautiful Midtown Tour
My husband and I took the midtown walking tour as part of our anniversary celebration. Our tour guide Dottie was friendly, down to earth, and very knowledgeable about the history of Sacramento and the current happenings in Sacramento. It was a beautiful spring day to be walking around enjoying different foods and drinks from different cultures. Dottie also gave us helpful, unique job finding tips.

      Wonderful way to sightsee
My hubby and I decided to do this on a Saturday while we were traveling for business. Donnie could not have been any more warm and inviting. She took us to so many unique Sacramento spots, showed us the local art and made sure we stuffed ourselves with some local delicacies. So glad we went. Great way to spend the afternoon. Thank you Donnie.

Midtown Food & Arts Tour was a perfect Sunday activity
This was such a great way to have three tours wrapped into one fun afternoon. This tour in midtown had history, art (theatre and murals) and food! I have lived in the area for almost 10 years and didn't realize what I was missing out on. We started at Azul's with a taco and margarita and ended with Ginger Elizabeth with Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich, yum!! In between there were tours of the local murals and the history behind them. In total the walk was under 2 miles but packed with so many restaurants, history and art, I lost count and forgot to takes photos of all because I was having such a good time. Thanks Dawnie for an amazing afternoon! Kris B.

      Don't miss this tour!
Oh my gosh this was such a fun tour! We live in Sacramento and actually live in the very area we toured and we still learned so much and tried some of the restaurants that we have been wanting to try but just hadn't made it yet. Dawnie was super entertaining and so knowledgeable. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this tour so much so that I plan on taking the rest of my family very soon. I honestly think that everyone who lives in this area should take this tour you will be amazed at how much you learn about your neighborhood, and if you are not from the area I think this tour will make you understand why we love our small big town of Sacramento!

Excellent tour - knowledgeable tour guide.
Our guide, Dawney, was super knowledgeable about Sacramento history, mural art and food. Dawney was the perfect tour guide for a food-related tour based on her passion and background. The places we visited gave us a wide variety of cuisines. My favorites were Azul, Ginger Elizabeth's and Pachamama - I'll definitely be back to these 3.

      Wonderful
Although a tad pricey (for Brits, the FX rate sucks!), this was an excellent tour with the highly knowledgeable, energetic, and personable Dawnie who took us to some lovely eateries in the mid-town, showed us local art, engaged in great conversation and delivered a wonderful afternoon. Thanks Dawnie.

A rich and enjoyable arts and food appreciation experience!
Dawnie made our experience wonderful! She shared a lot of the history of Sacramento, community involvement in current developments in the city, and new intricate details of the businesses that we visited and the artwork we appreciated along the tour! The food and drinks were delicious!

We stopped at 5 different restaurants and they were all great! I learned a lot about Sacramento's history and beautiful murals from Dawnie as we walked through the city.

      Good tour
Our original tour was rescheduled, but we were called and informed in advance and told more about what we could do in Sacramento that day as well! The tour went smoothly and our tour guide was amazing! She was so knowledgeable and made the tour fun and entertaining! We definitely will be back in Sac to visit some of the places we stopped on our tour. Highly recommend if you have a free weekend and like learning about the food and history!

      WONDERFUL! 👍👍👍
We had so much fun on this tour! Dawnie is engaging & knowledgeable, and is obviously passionate about food, art, and the farm-to-fork concept in Sacramento. We tasted a variety of foods, saw some wonderful murals (we live nearby and have probably driven by these places hundreds of times, but never noticed the art) and learned a lot! The tour had a nice relaxing pace; Dawnie goes out of her way to make everyone comfortable. If you’re looking for a fun activity with food, art and a little exercise, this is it.

Tour was canceled the day after I booked and a day before the date of the food tour as there were not enough people who had signed up. That's totally understandable, I understand a company can't make money if too few people sign up. That's not the issue. The issue is their customer service.

Why I have the low rating is the snippy email I received when inquiring about my refund. The email stated "Customers will receive a full refund with 24 hours notice of cancellation.". That's not true.

8 days later when I was able to check my credit card account and see I didn't receive a refund I contacted them. I received a snippy email response, and the response claimed I had been told it could take up to two weeks for the credit to appear. I had never been told it would take up to two weeks to receive credit. Never mentioned in any email that I received.

I was criticized for asking about a credit 8 days later and wondering why I hadn't contacted them within a week of the cancellation. Below is the response I received.

"As I stated in my email to you at that time, it can take up to two weeks for the credit to appear on your cc statement. I also stated that you could contact me if you did not receive the credit within a week. This is the first I am hearing of any problem withe the refund. I can appreciate the time this is taking to resolve and thank you for your patience with it."

I have since received the credit (after I filed a complaint with my credit card). I would suggest this company have better customer service and not blame the customer for inquiring about their refund.

Nancy -- Thank you for your interest in Local Roots Food Tours. We are so sorry that we were unable to accommodate you on the date you requested a tour and do apologize for any inconvenience you experienced. We did not intend for our email regarding the refund to be "snippy." It was our intention to give you the information about our policy. As stated your refund was requested on 5/22/22, within minutes of the cancellation, after our telephone and email correspondence. Upon our request, it it the credit card company that takes over and it is their policy that a refund can take up to two weeks. We ask guests to contact us again if they don't see the refund within 1 week, so that we can follow-up and make sure the refund is moving through the process. I did not hear anything from you at that time. On 5/30/22, I received a note from your credit card company that you were disputing the charges. The dispute request actually forced the refund process to stop ("5/31/22 @ 3:50am Customer disputed $88.00 charge to Visa. The cardholder has disputed this payment and it cannot be refunded right now.") I was not aware that customer generated disputes could cause this but now know for the future. When presented with the dispute, we immediately accepted and asked the refund to continue. It does appear that you have now been given a full refund. Again, I apologize for the email inquiries we sent to you regarding the refund. It was not our intention to place blame on you or anyone else, nor to be "snippy." It was our intention to get to the bottom of the problem and to get the refund back to you. We do pride ourselves on customer service both on our tours and within the booking/refund process. Thank you again for your interest in Local Roots Food Tours. We do hope we have the opportunity to meet you in person on one of our tours in the very near future. -- Dawnie

We do a lot of food tours and this ranks in our top five. Not only was the quality of the food excellent, but our guide, Ciara/Seaira (not sure of the spelling!), is not only a “foodie”, but also a history major, and was informative, engaging, and absolutely wonderful. Got to learn about the city’s murals, Capitol grounds, local architecture, and Schwartznegger’s favorite eatery while governor. We left our three hours with her full of information, pizza, soup, tequila, panini, coffee, caramels, chocolates, and several baggies of spices. Can highly recommend!

We came through Sacramento with a study away group of 18 university students eager to learn more about the local art scene and eat some great farm to fork food. Wow did local roots food tours exceed our expectations. From the get-go it was great communication, clear directions, and above and beyond delivery of experience and food. Despite being a group of 21 people with 18 unpredictable and unique college students, the tour went off without a hitch.

We went to three great places all of which blew our minds. The portions were more than generous, the walking was perfectly paced and distanced, and the information about murals, local restaurants, and agriculture was excellent.

The students we had with us counted this as one of the best experiences that we provided on the trip, and their favorite from our Sacramento stop. We look forward to using Local Roots tours again when we run the trip in coming years. Thank you local roots!

What an incredible food/art tour we had! Our guide, Donnie, is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about food, food/restaurants in the area, the city of Sacramento, the fabulous murals in the area. Plus, she is VERY enthusiastic about being a tour guide. She planned some wonderful stops at restaurants, the food was spectacular with plenty of food to try. We loved the whole experience!

A very enjoyable tour, with lots of information about the Sacramento area and some great food stops! CC was knowledgeable and engaging, and her enthusiasm about Sacramento was infectious. The tour gave us a chance to see the downtown area in a way that helped us appreciate not only the history but also the city's current efforts. Well done.

Our guide, Dawnie, was so much fun, sharing her knowledge of Sacramento history, murals and delicious food and drinks with our group. We visited a '70's record shop/deli, coffee bar, spice shop and Mexican restaurant while passing the cathedral, gardens/parks and the city's vast collection of murals. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful time on this food tour. Dawnie came out in the rain to show us the food and art scene in Midtown. We had a group of 6 of varying ages and she tailored the tour to make possible for all of us to enjoy the day. Dawnie is extremely personable, knowledgeable and clearly loves Sacramento and what she does. As a group we have done many, many food tours in cities all over the south and pacific west and this is up there as one of the best, if not the best. In fact, we took another tour the following day of our three day trip in another part of Sacramento. I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to take all the tours. This is a great way to spend the afternoon and it's bargain priced for what you get.

Thank you for taking the time to review your Local Roots Food Tours tour. While we are very pleased you found CiCi informative and fun (we think she is just the best!) we are sorry you found the food experiences lacking. We do try our very best but, as humans, we do sometimes miss our mark. Our tours and our relationships with our restaurants are important to us and on-time tour starts are important; we respect the time of all of our guests and guides. Late arrivals, such as yours, even when traffic is the culprit, will limit the number of stops and the amount of food you might receive on a tour. We would love the opportunity to have you as guests again on one of our other tours and improve our standing in your eyes. Thank you again for your review.

Our tour guide CC was awesome! My husband and I were running late and she waited for us. Turns out we were the only ones on the tour; probably because of the heat🌡🌞 but it turned out great. Our guide obviously loves her job and Sacto which made for a very informative tour. Lots of good information about how the city of Sac is trying to support businesses in the area. We will definitely return to a lot of the spots on the tour
