- leahw20250 contributionsGreat experienceWe went out at 9 am. We were able to see 4 gray whales headed north which I guess is uncommon for January. The captain and crew were very knowledgeable, we had a man name Tom who would walk around and answer questions and told us a lot of cool facts about the marine life. Great experience.Written January 12, 2025
- jessicasW7930WR0 contributionsVisitor friendly. The staff and crew were friendly and helpful. It was a foggy day, but we were blessed to see a large pod of friendly dolphins. It was an easy process to purchase our tickets, park, and find Davey’s Locker without knowing the area.Written January 6, 2025
- ideasamy0 contributionsNo whales - some DolphinsThe pluses - we were on a comfortably large boat with plenty of seating indoors and out they offered snacks and coffee for sale and we saw a large pod of dolphins. The downside the sign outside the port entrance where you pick up your ticket shows they have not seen a whale in at least a couple weeks - once dolphins were found the captain did not even go looking for whales we just stayed put and looked at Dolphins. Okay but not what we were there for. Wildlife can’t be guaranteed but in the end I don’t think they were really looking for whales once they found Dolphins.Written December 29, 2024

- Navigate676381056040 contributionsFun at seaWent with my adult kids. Didn’t see any whales but had a nice boat ride. When we arrived back at the dock they gave us a voucher to come again for free. Took my husband and it was an enjoyable ride and we did see lots of dolphins.Written December 26, 2024
- U2638ZJanniel0 contributionsHORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICEHorrible customer service - even before I went to the event. Because we have bad sea sick, we wanted to cancel not knowing that the holiday event is absolutely non refundable. The customer service (Cecilia - last name was not given because it is her privacy) hung up on me while I was struggling if I still want to cancel or not, and emailed cancellation confirmation. It is non refundable ticket and she didn't even confirm my final decision and cancel the reservation. I don't know if I can enjoy the event now. WONDERFUL WAY TO SPOIL THE HOLIDAY.Written December 19, 2024
- mariazA8655GC0 contributionsGoodThe view was amazing. But it needs more variety of Christmas music to make it more enjoyable. I did not like the sound of the music and the music itself.Written December 6, 2024
- EldredP_130 contributionsUNHONEST MANAGEMENT & STAFF - CROOKSDavey's Locker and the fishing vessel are independent from each other and found out a couple days after the Manager Dave refused to give us a refund on unopened/unused tackle pack, torpedos and hooks. We check in with Davey's Locker and were sold incorrect equipment by Johnny at a cost of $57.63. The problem is onboard they were charging us $8 for the correct equipment when we were told at Davey's the vessel would have replacements at no cost if we were to lose ours. No fault to the vessel but the communication between both companies should be clear as day as where they are taking customers and what equipment is needed. About 30-35 people on board of a tour of 52 on 11/09 were given incorrect equipment so Davey's Locker profited over $1,500+ on equipment that was falsely sold to us. Now, that's criminal. The crew on board were very friendly and helped throughout the trip so this review is based on Davey's Locker and their staff.Written November 11, 2024
- V9164RVkristinak0 contributionsRip offWe actually went on a bioluminescent tour last Saturday night, which I cannot recommend at all. They marketed like it would be on the zodiac (photos of zodiac) and it was on their huge slow boat. The tour was only 90 minutes and the bioluminescence was 6 miles off shore. By the time we got there we had to turn around. The galley staff was inconsiderate with leaving bright lights and flash lights on. Super boring and annoying! The boat was packed - nearly 100 people per trip and they had 4 trips - so they made bank for a few hours work! But such a scam. As a local, I cannot recommend this company as they should know better that the results would be less than desirable in such a short time on such a slow boat, but they took everyone's money anyway. I called to express my concerns and was begrudgingly offered a 50% refund which I have yet to receive. Try the zodiacs with Newport Coast Adventures! They are so much more fun!! Worth the extra $$$Written October 30, 2024
- Adventure642050967120 contributionsScheme . money hungry thievesTERRIBLE. INCONSIDERATE. MONEY HUNGRY. Not very DEMURE.I’ve worked in the service industry across many platforms. This business does not conduct good business or are even reasonable. I love my Newport community and local business owners. They would want locals and tourist to always come back! Do NOT buy a ticket from them because if you have a medical emergency or your visiting out of state and can’t make it even with canceling within a reasonable time THEY Will not refund you . Imagine your middle class and want to take your kids on a trip for a memorable experience and you worked hard to buy tickets, but all the sudden your kid has a medical emergency so you have to cancel the trip that would make them happy …so then call and they take ALL YOUR money and say no to any sort of refund. they don’t offer any empathy. I call that stealing and inconsiderate. NEVER will go to a place that behaves this way . So rude. WE have the funds to afford this , but I’m defending those who may be a victim of what I went through. Not a business to stand behind that just takes your money. No aloha. No respect for locals or tourist.Written September 30, 2024

- J7817YPms0 contributionsNice family outingWe did not see the whales, but saw many dolphins. The boat was new and clean. It was a nice family outing. Parking can be an issue, but we got there more than hour before the trip, and were able to park on the street.Written September 8, 2024
- Sara N0 contributionsNice Boat Ride, No Whales - But DolphinsThe boat ride was nice. We didn’t see any whales, but that wasn’t a big deal to me. We did get to see a pod of dolphins and I also saw a shark fin. The customer service was pretty poor, which is why I’m giving 3 stars. All the staff seemed to not want to be there and were very dull and unfriendly. None of the staff was mean, but they seemed annoyed and like it was bothersome to them if anyone had any questions or needed to speak with them. Maybe it was just a bad day, but it made the overall vibe of the cruise a little unwelcoming and uncomfortable.Written September 5, 2024

My husband and I booked this trip in hope of seeing a blue whale, as they had been seeing them for several weeks straight in late May/early June 2024. I am so happy we booked this faster boat, because Captain Larry was able to go full speed, about 9 miles out, when he heard there was a blue whale who would be coming up to surface soon. He got us there with a few minutes to spare, and it was awesome. Our first blue whale ever. Not only that, but we also saw hundreds of dolphins, the fins of a few mola mola fish, pelicans, and seals. It was well worth paying a little more because had we been on the slower boat, we would have missed the blue whale. His boat mate Bryce was also good. They did a great job of making everyone happy. As always with nature, you never know if you'll be lucky enough to see something or not the day you go, but I highly recommend this company for its professionalism and dedication to find animals.

A friend of mine from Florida joined me for whale watching on the Davey's Locker 'Catallac' on 5/31/24. We were not disappointed. What an amazing outing! The experienced crew was polite, professional, knowledgeable, entertaining, attentive to visitor inquiries and questions, and determined to find WHALES! Most importantly to me, was their focus on safety for everyone on board and that of our precious marine wildlife. Captain Bryce, along with crewmembers Larry, and Matt, took excellent care of everyone and provided all of us with an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend this company if you are looking for sightseeing options along the coast outside of Newport Beach.

Kayla and Bryce were great! They found about a hundred common dolphins who played with the catamaran for awhile. Then on the way back we saw sea lions sunning themselves on buoy. We kept scanning the ocean but the whales did not seem like they wanted to show themselves this evening. The staff was very knowledgeable and were able to answer questions about the mammals that inhabit the area. All in all it was an exciting evening.

This was an amazing trip. We only saw one mink whale, but we saw over 2,000 common dolphins, two sun fish, and lots of birds. The dolphin were so entertaining, swimming by the boat and jumping out of the water. Kaylan and Christine were so knowledgeable and told us all kinds of interesting facts. I would highly recommend them.

Very pleasant boat ride, lots of amazing view of Newport Beach harbor. Serene feeling throughout, amazing nature.
Unfortunately did not encounter too much wild life, very quiet waters, just the universally present sea lions.
We were offered an opportunity to return and given vouchers.
The crew was super friendly and polite and the trip ran on time.
Was a nice ocean boat ride, but would be amazing if you encounter whales.

We had a great time with Captain Larry and asst Dani. We were thrilled to see a Fin whale, and were impressed by his knowledge of the species predicting exactly to the minute how long the whale would dive and resurface. The whale was being so cooperative we were able to hangout and watch it for 3 dives and Larry was able to get close enough for some great pics of this magnificent creature. We won’t forget this experience

The captain was friendly and knowledgeable and courteous, and very gentle about the way that he captained the boat so no one would get too wet in the waves. While there weren’t any whale sightings ( I would’ve given a five out of five because it was a whale watching Trip), he did pilot the ship towards an enormous pod of common dolphin, and the dolphin were playing under the bow and all over to the right and left and behind the boat, jumping and frolicking and feeding andsome mating.
Just being out in the Newport Harbor and out at Sea was a wonderful and beautiful time with me and my wife and I would recommend friendly staff, clean fast and amazing environs

We just had the best time! Our crew Dani and Bryce did a great job hosting us. Dani was great about respecting the animals with staying a quiet distance from the sea life which impressed us all, and helped us understand that respecting them makes them more comfortable around the boats. We saw three whales, two Finn and one minke. We also saw a nursery pod of dolphins. One of the babies was itty bitty and so dog gone cute! We also saw sea lions. The whole experience was nice. We did spring for the VIP experience and did not regret it. Overall, I would 100% book again!

Captain Kayla and Christine were fantastic! Both were so informative and knowledgeable about all the sea life we were seeing. We witnessed a humpback whale breaching completely out of the water, twice. Just an incredible experience aboard the Catallic. Thanks, can’t wait to go out with them again.
P.S. Christine’s photos are quite impressive.
