We stayed at the Hyatt Andaz so we walked on over. It was a nice cool walk.
This was my husband and I first time to Napa and I was really impressed with the hospitality with the hostess on the train and the tour guides at the Vineyards. My favorite Vineyard was the Robert Mondavi Estate. Our Tour guide was phenomenal. He took the time out to explain how to taste the wine, smell the wine and explained in detail about their cellar. I just wished we had more time in the gift shop. I think his name was Mike? Not too sure. He was awesome. He was also very passionate about wine! I love it. The food on the train was great too. I had the steak and I was very impressed. I loved the rice it had a lot of flavor with the tomatoes. Excellent.
The hostess on the train was the best. The ladies were awesome!! The most gracious hostess! The tour was pricey, however for the first time it was worth every penny of it.
The most challenging part of the tour was the lag time on the train, maybe have a recorded narrator on the train playing while waiting for others on the train or an interactive quiz on wine or something like that to make it more lively!

The train ride was great, worth every penny. This version of the tour has only one train car, so it’s small, and it includes two different tours – Legacy and Collective. They each visit 3 different wineries but otherwise seem the same. As soon as we sat down, they gave us a small white wine (at 10:15am!) and served us breakfast. The first leg of the ride was about 30 minutes to our first stop. We had only four couples on the Collective tour, so we got nice service at each winery. We stopped at St. Supery, Beringer and Raymond, getting private tours and tastings for our group of 8. All three were really interesting and very different. Plenty of wine was served.

Lunch was outstanding: choice of flatiron steak (my wife) and salmon (me). We were never on the train for more than 30 minutes, then had about an hour at each winery. So the six hours went really fast.

It was a great way to see a lot of wine country with a lot of structure around the day. These wineries all charge now for tours and tastings, so all in all, I think it was a good value.

We took the lunch train up to see Krug and Raymond Vineyards. The lunch was well prepared and quick. Our server was excellent, would equal any top restaurant. Quick, polite, good wine recommendations, and knowledgeable with the passing vineyards out the train windows. Once we were passed onto a luxury coach, our driver J. Thompson was as good as they get! Not only a comfortable and safe ride, but he knew the wineries and even passed on some of his knowledge to us, and gave us color as we were approaching each winery as to what we would see. He was also a famous jazz musician in another stage of life. Krug was professional, and our tour guide could not have been better. Wines were good. Raymond was a bit different, but fun. It is definitely eclectic and not necessarily for everyone, but wines were fair-to-good. Would definitely go with the train, which has numerous alternatives in regard to wineries and either lunch or dinner.

I thought this was very deceiving, we got on a shuttle to go to a winery, then met up with the train for an hour train ride that went about 15 miles total. I was under the impression that we would be taking the train through Napa to see scenery. It also stated on our tickets that there would be a tasting on the train, never happened! We had to pay for it, on top of paying for the expensive train in the first place. Last but not least, I also expected to have a table to ourselves but had to sit with another couple we had nothing in common with and had to make awkward conversation. Not the romantic train ride I was hoping for and overall not impressed. Wouldn't do it again.

We did this recently and whilst well organised we were expecting more than one stop at a vineyard. We thought it would be train, stop, train, stop. Also a big caveat is that the wine they serve on the train is not included and is very expensive - $13 for a glass of Sauvignon. The train itself is quite, shall we say, worn and certainly not up to Orient Express standards but having said all that it was a fun trip and the food certainly was excellent. You could do a lot better driving up Napa Valley and stopping at the many vineyards where they don’t need appointments made.

We experienced the Castello di Amoroso tour with Vista Dome upgrade. This ticket was $350, which includes train, winery tour and tasting, lunch, and shuttle back to Napa. In our opinion, it was not worth the ticket price. The train, brings you up through the valley, which has decent views, and offers a shuttle back through the silverado trail. However, there was no information provided about any of the vineyards we were seeing by the guides on the train or the shuttle. The food was good for being made on a train, however, there are so many amazing culinary experiences in Napa, we feel this one fell flat. The best part of the whole trip was the winery tour, which we could have booked for $60 a ticket. If you love trains and the novelty of dining on one then this is for you. However, if you'd love to experience great food and amazing wine, we highly recommend looking into other options that provide more value for price of admission (and there are so many in Napa Valley).

Let me start of by saying their website pictures and advertising create a high expectation, so we were disappointed because of this. The train was not as nice as pictured in the website. The staff was very nice and accommodating, the food was superb, the presentation beautiful. They offered one free glass of sparkling wine. The rest you had to purchase. Now, spending $400 per person with a Gourmet meal on board, you would think they would pair a glass of wine, doesnt have to be a full glass with each meal so you can enjoy some wine on the train...Instead you had to buy a glass at $15! The wineries we went to were a mixture of great and not so good, at the last winery none of us on the tour even drank the wine, that's how bad it was. I would suggest that if you are going to charge a premium, which I don't mind paying, do it right, go all out...it doesnt cost much to add to the experience, but it makes for a great experience. I would recommend doing the 3 hour tour and explore the wineries yourselves...there are 600 of them in the area.

I took the wine train with a friend a few years ago and had a lovely experience. So this year my husband and I booked a tour for our 30th wedding anniversary. We purchased the upgrade to ride in the dome train with a tour of The Castello di Amorosa Winery(total price for 2 was $676.00)
The views were lovely and the food good (we had the Halibut and chicken)
Drinks are extra (about $60.00 plus tip) you are given a champagne glass at start of tour.
The train brings you through the wine county, the waiter in the front of the car (Gerardo) had excellent stories about the area and spent lots of time answering questions for the people in his section. Our waitress Kelly was nice but very rushed did not seem to know much about the area, her answer to most questions was “I’m not a drinker so I don’t know much about the area.” She rushed us from start to finish giving us little time to enjoy our very expensive meal, reminding us often we would need to be getting off the train soon.
Our tour guide Castello di Amorosa, Tomassa was excellent, but again it was a whirlwind hurry, hurry tour, with barely enough time to ask questions before we were rushed into the tasting room then souvenir shop. After the tour of the winery we were all piled onto a crowded, uncomfortable bus for the return trip to Napa.
I feel that for the price we paid we should have had better service on the train, a little more time to enjoy our food and a pleasant experience without feeling so rushed plus an opportunity to get some information about the areas we were passing through. I was disappointed with the experience overall and would not recommend the wine train to anyone. It is extremely overpriced far too rushed and gives you no time to relax and enjoy the beauty of wine country.

THIS TOUR IS A MUST! The wine train had the most attentive staff and you felt like you were on a first class trip through Napa Valley. Additionally, the train travels slowly so you are able to see both sides of the tracks and all the different wineries. The food was absolutely fantastic, the prime rib was made to order and some of the best prime rib I have ever had! Tasha, at the dessert car, was super helpful in explaining to us the different wineries and what to expect when we got there. Once we arrived at the train station, a brand new luxury bus took us to our wineries. Pam was our tour guide that day and she was extremely kind, offering to help us take pictures and explaining the scenery as we drove through. Each winery had such a personalized tour and wine tasting. I recommend this tour to everyone, well worth the upgrade to Ambassador class. Cost wise you need to understand that you get what you pay for; good service, quality food, and clean transportation.
