Pretty Gritty was pretty great
Apr 2021 • Friends
First off, rest assured that this is an easy bike ride. I was worried about biking downtown, but it was very do-able, even for my MIL, who is pretty new to biking.

The tour itself was phenomenal. I came into it knowing nothing about LA’s art district, and I learned a ton. Jennifer not only knows about the art you’ll be seeing, she knows many of the crews and artists, as well as the history of the district.

It truly felt like a docent tour. And, because the art changes pretty frequently, you could repeat the tour in a few months and see all new art.

Safe, Clean and informative bike tour
Sep 2020
I felt very safe with a sanitized bike and contact-less waiver, as well as hand sanitizer available at all times. She had also provided me with water when I ran out of my own. So thoughtful to bring everything. Jen is very considerate of safety while riding, briefing me where we are going before we leave and makes sure that we are on the safe side of the road and out of traffic.

I took the Arts District Tour (just me and my tour guide Jen) and it was fantastic. I learned so much and Jen is very knowledgeable! The Tour was chock full of great info! I left so inspired to do more art now because of it! I even got a little bonus off the beaten path tour of the arts district that many people may miss.

Arts District is a favorite of locals, many L.A. natives aren't aware of the amazing, and drastic changes happening in this once forgotten neighborhood. Kudos you for getting inspired by the creativity, and seeking adventure exploring by bike! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a review, we really appreciate it.

This was a great tour, even for a Los Angeles native! It was nice to learn about all the newness that is going on in downtown. There were areas I remembered and some that have changed a lot. It’s a great way to learn about LA and a really fun time, too! Plus, you get to be outside and get some exercise in this lovely city! Give it a whirl!!!

Very thorough and interesting! Perfect for both locals and tourists

We loved this bike tour! Our tour guide Jenny let us take our time and explore all the different parts of the Arts District. She was very knowledgeable of all the different artists, murals, buildings and overall history of LA and we feel we got to see some unique parts of LA that we would never venture to otherwise, since we live in West LA. She is also very good at directing us to make sure we were clear of traffic. Highly recommend!

Arts District Bike Tour - So great to do with the family
Nov 2019
I LOVED Handlebar Bike Tours arts district tour! My kids, husband and I, plus three other family members did the Arts District tour when we were visiting Los Angeles this last week and it was an excellent experience. Everyone in our group, except for my 12 year old daughter and I, were very experienced street riders. At first, when booking this tour, I was concerned that it might be too difficult or even scary riding on the busy streets of downtown LA, for my daughter and I. I emailed the website ahead of time with my questions and was told that this ride was truly designed for all levels and that they choose the times of the tours to fall when least traffic is, and routes that keep it easy and safe, etc. I still had my concerns when I booked this trip, but hoped for the best.

The tour was much more than I had hoped for. I quickly felt at ease riding around on this tour following our tour guide, Jen. She gave us plenty of instruction ahead as to what to expect riding and following behind. As for the tour itself, I found it to be incredibly informative and truly inspiring. There was a lot of interesting history woven in with current day street art, new buildings area, landmarks, museums, shops, bars, businesses, etc. Jen told us of what used to be in certain locations, what’s there now, who artists are, what buildings the art is on, plus exhibits, places to go back to, tons of info packed into 2.5 hours. So interesting. I also felt really empowered to be riding around on the streets of downtown Los Angeles on a bike and going on back streets and hidden alleys and learning about places that seem like only people “in the know” would know about. I loved this tour, not only for myself, but as a family experience to have together. I highly recommend this tour and I plan to do the historical tour next time I’m in town. There’s a ton happening in downtown LA and it feels exciting to be there.

One of the main reasons I started the tour was to get people comfortable biking in DTLA, so it gives me great pleasure to hear you and your daughter felt empowered on the bikes. Thanks for taking the time to leave us a great review.

Pretty Gritty Arts District Tour - Great!
Nov 2019
This tour completely surpassed our expectations. Our group of 7 (ages 12 to 52) were greeted by Jen and Jenna at the Grand Central Market. They fitted each of us to very comfortable and easy to ride bikes. Jen's passion for LA history and street art was prevalent within the places she called out and elaborated on during our tour. Having been a frequent LA visitor for over 30 years I was re-introduced to areas I had long forgotten about (Al's Bar location being one). The street art was fantastic and everyone totally enjoyed the Hauser and Wirth Gallery. Great way to spend a liad back afternoon with friends and family.

Fantastic, detailed, fun
Sep 2019
This was a great activity. We're new to the area (just moved last week) and wanted to get to know a different part of LA. The tour went all over the arts district, into hidden alleys and parking lots and corners where incredible murals adorned the passageways. Sign up quick! We got the distinct impression that the district is rapidly and radically gentrifying, and may not even exist in a few short years. Jen was wonderful, so knowledgeable, friendly, relaxed. One member of our party has some special needs and she was kind and open without being condescending. A great experience!
