- nicholef5280 contributionsFantastic day at the zooThe first thing we did was hop on the bus! We saw most of the zoo this way, and were able to identify areas we wanted to visit on foot. We ad an amazing lunch at Albert's Restaurant, and grabbed soft serve upstairs afterward. We took the aerial tram in the late afternoon and it offered fantastic views of the zoo and balboa park. We ran out of time to see everything we wanted (this zoo is huge), but felt like it was an an excellent day nonetheless.Written December 10, 2024

- 619janelle0 contributionsExcellent time!We had a wonderful time. Ethan, our bus tour guide was excellent. My mom commented on how clearly we could understand him and the information he provided was very interesting. We took the bus a week prior and thought he was really good. I recommend going early in the morning as most animals were up and moving about. We saw so many animals on the bus and on foot.Written December 8, 2024

- 297ikaikah0 contributionsGreat experienceLots of walking great experience love to see the zoo again and maybe the zoo expand smaller cages for bigger animals but other than great experience and hope to visit in futureWritten December 7, 2024
- X6111KZjulianr0 contributionsSan Diego ZooAnimals and app was amazing. We stayed all day and got to see all available animals. Only thing that I would change is the map is very confusing in the lost forest alot of different levels. We got confused on how to get to certain things.Written December 7, 2024
- Adventurer8014560 contributionsBeing Your Own Food and DrinksI enjoyed most of the enclosures, though I am amazed that the enclosures for the bears and several other animals are still as small as when I was a child. The tour guide on the bus was fantastic. She was entertaining and knowledgeable and passionate about conservation. I appreciate that the bus is included in the ticket price. Food, drinks and memorabilia are shockingly expensive, especially after coming from the zoos in Europe. The cost seems prohibitive for many families and detracts from the experience of a visit. I have a membership but can’t see myself purchasing anything in the zoo. Honestly, I had a much better experience in the zoos in The Netherlands and they were way more affordable.Written December 5, 2024

as good as everyone says it is. We are two adults, no children with us and only went because of its reputation and to mainly see the polar bears and koalas. We were not disappointed on any level.
Yes it is expensive to get in and we only did a whistle stop tour but if you make a day of it it is well worth it. Take at least a snack and drink if you are going for more than a couple of hours although lots of outlets they come at a price.
We got our ticket through Gocity. They do several options 1 2 3 days or build your own, with the latter as we did you just have to be doing 2 activities and get 20% off simple on line and you dont have to print off the ticket they all used the QR code.
There are plenty of other attractions in Balboa park to at least make up the second activity and you have 30 days to use it (on the build your own) You save more with some of the other passes but have limited time to use them.
Back to the zoo. The Polar bears were amazing, possible just lucky with timing but 2 were playing and swimming in the pool when we were there, could have just spent all my time watching them. Their enclosure is very good, they even have 2 snow machines and had fish in frozen blocks to play with. The koala were all dozing in their 'trees' I counted at least 16 of them. All the animals were saw were in excellent condition and I was very impressed with their enclosures, the elephants must have had over an acre to themselves.
Free parking
It is a large zoo so plenty of walking, there is a bus around though. Good paths and signs and lots of employees around to point you in the right direction.
Wish we could have stayed longer

We went on a weekday so there wasn’t a line particularly but it’s always nice to walk right in.
The kangaroo exhibit is a must see. We took our 2yr daughter to the San Diego zoo as well as the Safari Park and our overall experience at the Safari was absolutely incredible. We would highly recommend anyone with or even without kids go to this amazing place.

This place is wonderful and very educational for children and adults alike. It’s just an amazing example of what humans can do to preserve our planet. The guides are wonderful and the information shared about their conservation efforts is truly astounding! I ponder at how a large family could afford such an experience as it is costly beyond the entrance fee to eat there and to take the extra safaris but a portion of the money goes to the park and that made it a little easier for me to spend the extra knowing you are helping them to thrive. The safaris are well worth it if you can spare the expense! You are up close with so many incredible animals. They have the native plants and trees of the regions and at times it feels like you in a foreign land! Well done!

This is a complete disappointment and waste of time. It is better to go to San Diego Zoo rather than the Safari. First of all, it mentioned on the highlights that unlimited access to tram rides, animal exhibit, and animal shows are what to be expected. Well, do not expect that because everything is close. The tram is close BUUUT wait, if you pay extra $499 then up to 6 people in your group can enjoy a private tour in the safari. The animals looked dehydrated and malnourished and you can barely see them, except for gorillas and elephants. There is no such thing as animal show but a deserted stage where people can sit and rest from boredom. If that is the case, they better update the info at trip advisor regarding what is clearly included in the trip. Overall, it was a horrible experience and definitely would not recommend this to anyone.

First the good: I was very pleased to see all the sanitation stations. Also every store required sanitizing before entering. posted staff directing guest is above and beyond effort by park. Second: I was amazed that all but one HUGE IDIOT individual followed mask-on requirement. And he was on the over crowded Condor Trail. One out of hundreds is really good! But it only takes one...
Now the bad: this time was my fourth visit to Safari Park 20 years. I absolutely love the place. It is definitely my favorite place as far as an amusement park goes. Although I know the park was not at full capacity and required reservations, it was the most crowded I had ever seen it in my times there. The “trails” were extremely overcrowded. Going up and coming down. Although all individuals kept it moving we were literally within touching distance therefore making it virtually IMPOSSIBLE to keep 6 feet apart. Was there from slightly after 10 to 1:00 on April 6th!
All being said, I would return !

I was disappointed with the family experience at the Safari Zoo. I think it is mostly a zoo experience more than a safari experience. The entrance ticket is already very expensive for a family of four, but we need to pay a lot more to get close to the animals to have the real safari experience.

The animals looked and acted very healthy. The topography is wonderful so you can see lots of animals. My only complaint is there is SO much up-selling. Each "adventure" was an add-on. The cost of just the basic park is expensive without these add-ons.

Lots of areas to cover. Realistic settings for most of the animals. The "extras" were pricey. Open Truck safari wasn't really worth it although the animals were in a more natural setting. Zipline was a lot of fun but expensive for a 4 minute ride. If you have the bucks go for it. With the construction going on I would skip the balloon ride.

Even though my husband and I spent 2 full days exploring the Zoo, we could not pass up a chance to visit the Safari Park. It is truly amazing. Seeing animals in more natural habitats and wandering around (sometimes up close) is awesome. Like the Zoo, the Safari Park is beautiful and clean. The food prices are reasonable and the staff are so friendly. Do Not Sleep On This Place!!

Such a beautiful place. It will definitely take all day. First thing you should do is get there early and ride the shuttle that takes you all around the zoo. Lots of good information, let’s you get a quick glance of the place and helps you to get more of a mental picture of the place and helps you realize just how big it is. So make a route for you and your family after the shuttle and have fun! Walking shoes 100% a must!
