About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- shomis0 contributionsPaella contest in Guadalupe ValleyWe had the greatest time once again in Valle de Guadalupe thanks to Baja California Wine Tours and our tour guide, Mario. This time around Mario took us to the yearly paella festival that took place at Viñas de Liceaga. One of the best festivals I have ever attended. There were over 50 different restaurants participating in the competition and all prepared an amazing paella just like in Valencia Spain. More than 80 house wineries also gave tastings of their delicious wine and people danced throughout the night to the music of different groups playing upbeat music and Mexican folk rock. The party went on until late hours of the night. Very well organized and lots of food and wine. Mario as always took care of all our bookings and took us back home safely at the end of the event. I give five stars to both Baja California Wine Tours and to the organizers of the Paella festival.Written August 27, 2024
- Cruiser7698130 contributionsGreat timeMario was a great tour guide, we went to several different locations in Mexico, he was very knowledgeable. His communication before the trip was great. Would definitely recommend and would use this company again.Written July 28, 2024
- tonifQ4492NR0 contributionsThe mexican museum..driving around coast line..info about Trump border misformation. The tour guide Mario was amazing. Even with leg in cast it never slowed down his enthusiasm for our complete enjoyment of tour. I enjoyed his knowledge of of all the sight. And his fun delivery. He made the tour fun !! I would highly recommend this tour hands down.Written July 22, 2024
- N1560LMlindsayd0 contributionsBook the Tour! You won't be disappointed.I can't say enough good things about our adventure to Baja's wine country, Valle de Guadalupe. René, our tour guide, was absolutely fabulous, making our small group feel comfortable and jovial from the get-go with his humor and knowledge of the region. The choice in wineries was superb! If I had any expectations, they were exceeded, and I cannot wait to return. The views to/from and at the wineries, themselves, were incredible Instagram-worthy scenes. The food was absolutely delicious. This tour is worth every penny!Written July 1, 2024
- jcasb150 contributionsFantastic tourThis is an absolutely wonderful tour to take if you want to get an authentic view of Mexico. With this tour, you get a full day of walking around and visiting Tijuana, and so much of what makes Mexico unique. It is so much more than stopping for a couple hours in Mexico like you would on a cruise, staying near the "safe" port of the ship the entire time. The tour takes you to several places, and you get to taste so much authentic Mexican food. Having Mexican street corn from a street vendor by the Baja peninsula was something we will never forget! The market was great, as well as every other stop. Mario was fantastic, and being native to the area made the tour memorable and exciting. We highly recommend it.Written June 30, 2024
- 966larsm0 contributionsNow we have fulfilled a long held dreamWe took the Trolley from Santee to Old Town where we were greeted by Mario and Rene. Since there were only three more participants we joined Rene for our adventure south. What a fun and rewarding experience. Not only is Rene a great driver, he can sing and play the piano, and guitar. We were treated to those talents at Martlot Winery, and (singing) on the way back to San Diego. It was super hot in V. de Guadalupe (up to 105F) but the wineries provided the wines in ice buckets. Much appreciated. Our fellow participants were all happy and super easy to get along with. Rene made sure everyone was safe and involved in the conversations. Our tour started at Montefiore, where we met the owner Paolo Paoloni. Super charming and knowledgeable guy. The wines were so good I have since ordered a mixed case, and am looking forward to sharing with friends. Next: Decanto where we had a cheese platter in addition to very good wines. Then lunch at Finca Altozano. Excellent food and service. Since the company pays extra to go in the fast lane at the border our trip home was a breeze. It helped that the CBP officer was super friendly and teasing Rene. For us this was a great experience and definitely to be repeated.Written June 26, 2024
- gailkvistad0 contributionsFantastic Mexico excursion!!!Rene is FANTASTIC!!! This was the best trip thanks to his knowledge and kindness what a great time! Fastest border crossing ever! Only 20 minutes to cross the border use them for that perk alone it’s worth gold! Highly recommend this company Mario & Rene are so FUN and accommodating what a great excursion felt so safe in their hands and look forward to doing the wine tasting tour with them next time!!!Written March 15, 2024

- shomis0 contributionsAmazing whale watching tour!As a returning customer of Baja California Wine Tours, we were very pleased once again with the amazing service that Mario and his company provided for us this time around. We hired Mario for a trip to Guerrero Negro to go see the gray whales migration to the “liebre lagoon “ and to see the natural sand dunes and salt banks in the region of Guerrero Negro! It was an incredible experience to be able to see and pet the whales. I never imagined how friendly this beautiful giants are. We also went to a natural reserve where the Berrendos deer are protected. The whole four day trip was well organized and put together by Mario. Great accommodations and delicious restaurants. I highly recommend Mario and his company for any tour into Mexico.Written February 6, 2024
- UlfBoman0 contributionsGood wine in good companyI joined a group of 6 students/friends from LA. Mario was a super professional guide, showing us the right wineries and eateries. Good driving, good guiding, fun experience. Top notch!Written November 25, 2023
- megand8130 contributionsFun times, no stressGreat tour! It was our first time in Valle de Guadalupe and we were too nervous to drive ourselves into Mexico and figure out how to navigate ourselves around the valley. Great wineries and Rene was a fun guide. I went for my birthday and can’t imagine a better way I could have spent it. I’d recommend the tour to anyone!Written November 20, 2023
- Steph3120 contributionsLike Spending the Day With FriendsFabulous! I'm not really a tour person, but this felt more like spending the day with friends. Rene was an amazing driver and guide, he navigated the border so well that we were able to avoid a lot of the traffic. The wineries each had their own unique characteristics and the lunch was spectacular!Written November 20, 2023
- Reha S0 contributionsThe most Amazing trip to Valle De GuadalupeMario was amazing from beginning to end. He took us to the best winery’s, restaurants, shopping area, & horseback riding. We felt safe the whole time with Mario driving through the boarder and to all the different winery’s. We stayed at a lovely hotel and enjoyed the warm pool and nighttime dancing to a live band! This trip was the most memorable for me and will be using Mario in the future!!Written November 6, 2023
- GrandTour3246460 contributionsFun exploring Baja California. We had such an amazing trip with our friends. We visited some amazing wineries and restaurants. The food was exceptional. We did an unforgettable horseback riding over the hills with beautiful horses and a great guide. Finally, all transfers were very safe and friendly. I would definitely travel with Baja California Wine tours again.Written October 17, 2023
- Z8278FNcraigm0 contributionsGreat taste of TijuanaOur two families from Australia visiting San Diego did a private day tour with Mario to get a taste of Mexico in Tijuana. Pickup and drop-off from our hotel in San Diego made it so easy. The format of the tour was perfect to get some Mexican history and see the highlights of Tijuana as well as the best tacos we had on our trip (we tried plenty in the US) for lunch. Mario is a passionate local and provided great insight into his home country and answered all our questions enthusiastically about his interesting country. The only lowlight was the hour or so waiting in traffic to get back through the border into the US (but that is unavoidable) and Mario finds the quickest way possible. Highly recommend this tour.Written July 10, 2023

Before coming to San Diego, we had no idea that Mexico even produced wine. When we looked up wine tours, expecting to go somewhere near San Diego, tours to Baja California’s Valle de Guadalupe came up and we thought we would take a chance - and we are so glad we did.
Mario was a fantastic, knowledgeable guide to the area, the culture, and the wines. It is clear that he loves what he does , and he shares that with the guests on his tour. We got lucky and ended up with a private tour by chance, and it was even better than expected, because we were able to move at our own pace, as well as make additional stops, like at a cheese shop.
Highly highly recommended if you like wine, and would like to explore a little known region. We didn’t know what to expect, but the wineries were all so eclectic and interesting. We went to three on our tour, but Mario works with over 60 of the 100+ wineries in the valley and changes up where he visits all the time. If we had more time we might have done the tour a second time, or even the overnight excursion!

My girlfriend and I signed up for a one-day tour on Sunday, December 8, 2019, with Baja California Wine Tours, San Diego. We met our very capable and professional guide and owner of the company, Mario, at the Old Town Trolley stop, at 9 am. The tour took us across the border and down the very picturesque coastal route to the Guadalupe Valley. We experienced three first-rate wineries, a delicious lunch at a winery, a stop at a cheese store, and scenic stops along the way. Mario ensured that we had a memorable and pleasant experience at a comfortable pace. Baja California Wine Tours is the only way to go with a guide who knows where all the hidden gems are located. Mario had us back to the Old Town Trolley stop around 8 pm. The trip exceeded our expectations and we look forward to doing it again‼️

Not long ago we hired Mario from Baja California Wine Tours to go on a two day stay to Valle de Guadalupe. We were so pleased with the service and the whole tour that we wanted to come back and take another tour with Mario but this time to Ensenada and La Bufadora. For this tour we went on a single day trip but it was as nice and fulfilling as our first tour. Mario picked our group of six from our home, because it was a private tour, and headed south along the Pacific towards Ensenada. In Ensenada we visited Hussong's Cantina for tequila tastings, Calle Primera for shopping and the board walk. We also had delicious fish tacos and ceviche tostadas at the fish market. Then we went to a chocolate factory before heading out to see La Bufadora (natural blowhole). It was a smooth 30 minute drive in a new 15 passenger van with air conditioning and plenty of legroom. At la Bufadora we saw the geyser like cave spitting water up to the sky. Very impresive!! We also enjoyed more tacos and craft beer from Ensenada. The whole day was amaizing thanks to Mario. He is knowledgable about the area and history of his country. He is also a very relaxed guy and never rushes you during each activity. He is by far the best guide I have ever met. Highly recommend his company and his tours!!

We had an amazing time on this trip. Mario is an excellent guide, knows his stuff, provides a seamless process for picking up in the US and bringing across the border in a clean van and well thought out tour. Definitely recommend this tour, it’s our second time doing it and this time we incorporated some tequila tasting into the trip as well.
Valle de Guadalupe is a beautiful valley, full of great restaurants and wineries. Definitely explore and know it is a very safe, fun place.

Mario is the BEST! He helped me plan a 3 day/2 night private multi-adventure trip for 18 ladies in Valle de Guadalupe. Mario pulled together the entire itinerary, made all of the reservations and basically made it so it was minimal effort on my part (as the main coordinator for the group).
He suggested a beautiful hotel, incredible wineries and delicious restaurants (including accommodating dietary restrictions), set up various activities (ziplining, horseback riding, hiking, dancing) and arranged transportation from San Diego into the valley and throughout the entire trip. He patiently kept us on time for each reservation, was flexible with our group and an absolute pleasure to work with. He took all of the hassle out of planning an international trip.
In addition, Mario made us feel safe on the trip and we never felt there were any "surprises". He is honest, and EXTREMELY knowledgeable. I would highly recommend working with Mario whether with a large group OR small group.

My favorite part by far was our awesome tour guide Mario. He made are trip so fun, interesting, informative, and unique for all of my family members including my kids whose ages range from 1 to 15 years old. It is not an easy job to make everyone happy but Mario did it. He took us to the best restuarants from fresh lobster, to mole poblano to alote pancakes to mexican coffee that you light on fire before drinking. We had margaritas at the beach, 4 wheeling on sand dunes, personal mariachis bands, visits to art galleries and still managed time to shop for gifts. All of the accomodations were safe and clean and perfect for my family. He was so flexible and really knew what to show us and what to tell us about. He was able to keep my kids interested with cool facts about how certain places got their names, or where famous movies were filmed. We were able to sample some delicious wines from Mexico at a variety of wineries. While we sampled the wines, the kids were able to explore the vinards and enjoy the beauitful landscape. I would highly recommend Mario to friends and family and hoping to do another tour with him in the future. Thank you for making us feel like family Mario.

We got this tour for our friend Stephanie and honestly it was so worth it ❤️I have never done this private so it was a pleasant experience. We got picked up by Mario In Balboa in SD and we drove into 🇲🇽 Mexico . We then rented a bigger form of transportation because we where a big group and honestly the entire time we all felt safe. It’s nice to know that someone else is driving and that we can drink comfortably. We had snacks and drinks are entire trip down there. We all loved how informative Mario was and how friendly and kind he attended all of us ❤️ We went to all the wineries 🍷 and had lunch in a perfect place that the food was five star for sure 👍🏽🙌🏽✨✨✨✨✨ We did go on Saturday so expect a little bit of a delay with crossing back ( I thought it worked out fine so I stopped drinking at our last spot ) around 6pm and by the time we got to our car I was sober enough to drive home 🏡
We all enjoyed this trip ❤️ 🍷🍷

Mario provided an amazing experience over a weekend in Valle de Guadalupe taking us from one magical vineyard after another. We ate delicious, gourmet food and learned much about the history and wine making of the region. He delivered us over the winding , picturesque dirt roads that would have certainly confused my phone’s maps and found us a beautiful hotel on Valentine’s Day on short notice.
If you want to see the best on Mexico’s wine country, Mario is an easy choice to deliver it.

From beginning to end Mario and his company, Baja California Wine Tours, took care of all the details and offered us an incredible all inclusive tour to Guadalupe Valley. Delicious food, great wine and excellent service throughout. The valley is better than Napa and better than Temecula. The quality of the wine is highly competitive and sometimes even better than those in Italy and France. The gourmet food, BajaMed style, is top of the line, rare and sophisticated. All the places where Mario took us were amazing and well chosen. The group’s favorites being Finca Altozano and Cuatro Cuatros. By far Mario’s tours are the best of the best. Ten out of ten! Highly recommended!

I went on a private wine tour to the Guadalupe Valley from San Diego for a bachelorette party. Mario, the tour guide and organizer, was wonderful! Everything was on time, comfortable, and professional. Each stop of the wine tour was perfectly timed and planned. We stopped for brunch, then did wine tastings at two different wineries, and finished with an amazing dinner at a final winery. The food and wine at every place we visited was delicious. Mario was great at giving us space during our meals and tasting, while still checking in and keeping us on time when it was necessary. He took great pictures of our group throughout the day, and followed up promptly after the tour. Mario was very communicative about the border crossing, which went very smoothly. The entire trip was fun, relaxed, and luxurious for our entire group, and we felt like we could really enjoy celebrating the bride-to-be on her special day. I would not hesitate to work with Mario on another trip to Mexico from the US, and I highly recommend his services to anyone looking for an extremely well-planned, fun, and relaxing trip to Mexico.

Is there expedited border crossing on way back? Sentri/medical tourism line? Also is it possible for some in private tour to do one day package and some 2-day package? Is overnight stay at Adobe Guadalupe or Via de la Valle?
