- terrisC7145LW0 contributionsFun time even on a bad weather dayUnfortunately, the morning of our sailing trip was foggy with zero wind, meaning little to no visibility and no sails. However, Captain Rich turned a gloomy day into a bright experience with his funny, informative stories about the bay and the wildlife.Written November 16, 2023
- nibaldom20150 contributionsSunsetAfter a day of wine tasting in Sonoma decided to drive here to have dinner and watch the sunset next to the Pacific Ocean. We drove all the way to the top at Bodega head and watched the sunset. The views and sunset were spectacular and breath taking. We also walked by the rocks next to the ocean and it was pure beauty. Overall, this is a must do. EnjoyWritten October 8, 2019
- sluggertom0 contributionsAwesome DayCaptain Rich is terrific. Our sailing trip is a day we will always remember. Rich is a master seaman - his love of the sea shines through and shares it with his guests.Written August 24, 2019
- budcbert0 contributionsGood time sailingMy wife and I went on the morning sailing trip with Rich. It was an overcast day but we still had a good time. It was a smooth sailing day. Rich took us around the bay , showed us a lot and told us about the bay. He is very knowledgeable about sailing, the bay and the bay area. He gave us suggestions of other things to do in the area. He has a good sense of humor which makes for a good time. We would sail with Rich again.Written June 29, 2019
- WrightyB040 contributionsMid day April sailRich was great! Great sail, never been before. Very relaxed and chill. Would definitely go again! Open to what we could handle. Overall, awesome!!!Written May 2, 2019
- JSKingsfans9160 contributionsBeautiful sunset sailWe had a nice but windy sunset sail. We were the only ones on the boat but Rich made us feel welcome. We got to see harbor seals, sea lions and beautiful views of the coast and sunset. Highly recommend doing this if you are visiting the Sonoma Coast!Written October 8, 2018
- Bev M0 contributionsNo ShowBooked four slots for a private sail. Arrived at the meeting spot at the arranged time, and waited. By 10:02, after our scheduled departure time, I called only to be told that we had been forgotten, that he was an hour away, but could give me a refund. So, nevermind the 3hour roundtrip drive, nevermind the ruined anniversary plans, I got a refund so I guess it makes it all okay.Written September 25, 2018

- LHF630 contributionsAn Amusing Sail!If you are looking for a casual, fun, laid back day of sailing THIS IS FOR YOU!!! Rich is hilarious. His boat isn’t fancy or pretentious- but we weren’t looking for that. We drank wine, watch seals and sea lions play and even caught a glimpse of a few porpoises! We had a BLAST!!Written August 19, 2018
- DavidDC0 contributionsYou should do this!Sailing with Captain Rich is one of those experiences that you expect when you vacation: authentic, fun, and unique. Captain Rich is fun, engaging, energetic and knowledgeable. The trip is curated for the way you feel that day, based on, of course, what the seas are like. He's able to point out landmarks, discuss their history, talk with folks from all walks of life, and tailor your voyage accordingly. We will talk favorably about our sailing trip for the rest of our lives.Written August 18, 2018
- kn4est0 contributionsFamily & FriendsGreat adventure! Fair winds and following seas turned into high winds and soupy seas. We couldn't get enough! Several of us have had past sailing experience and it became quickly apparent to us that Skipper Rich knew his craft (pun intended). Additionally, Rich is a personable, informative, and entertaining Captian; we'd sail again with him in a heartbeat.Written August 7, 2018

You will not be disappointed. A great experience. Thank you, Rich!Written June 17, 2018

It wasn’t the best of weather at 10:00 am in the morning in October, so it was a bit cold . Not unexpected, but skipper Rich was very entertaining and was thoughtful when one of our party got seasick! I would say the sailboat was average and was not kept up well, a little disappointing! I would not go out with more than 2 couples or 4 people. The bathroom facilities were not sanitary and need to be in better shape! Overall We all felt it was a 5 out of 10! Beautiful view but not worth the money!‘

Ugh, Sorry you did not have a good time. The boat is 50 years old and it is very sea worthy. Sorry about the rain too, I did not expect it. It is a bummer to stay inside the cabin to stay dry. and certainly cramped with everyone inside. I would have stayed out the full three hours but your group seemed to want to go back to the dock.

My son and I took a Bodega Sailing Trip with Rich during our stay in Bodega Bay. It was a very beautiful day for a fantastic experience in the Bodega Harbor and out on the ocean. Rich was a super host to us and we enjoyed our time together chatting with him about the area. Visiting with Rich was like connecting with an old friend. He is very experienced and knowledgeable about sailing and we felt very safe during the trip. A great day, a great experience - thanks Rich!

Rich was an excellent host on our Bodega Bay Sailing adventure! He communicated well throughout the process and was knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed chatting with him and felt at ease as he captained the boat. We had beautiful weather for our early October cruise. We'd definitely recommend this excursion!

We went out on Rich’s 33 ft sloop. Initially there was no wind so we motored out of the bay where Rich pointed out the local birds and landmarks. Breeze came up so we were able to sail a while. Saw an awesome whale breech and fin flaps from a humpback. Rich has a great personality with great stories to share. He went above and beyond to return my phone to me which I accidentally left on his boat! We had a great time; so enjoyed the day. We highly recommend this trip!

Sailing with Rich was a blast. It was great to learn stories about Bodega Bay and the surrounding area. The views were stunning, and we had a great time. He pointed out highlights all along our trip. Dress warm, it gets chilly. I highly recommend this tour.

My wife and I were looking for an outdoor activity to do on my birthday and this sailing tour was a perfect fit. Enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, sipping champagne and good conversation. Rich was a lot of fun to talk with and well versed on local history, geography, and wildlife. We saw quite a few birds, sea lions, and even managed to spot a whale. Would highly recommend for both locals and out-of-towners.

Rich was a great pilot/ owner. The sail around the bay was great. Even though it was 96 degrees in Sonoma, we knew to dress warm on the boat as on the water, it was a breezey 55 degrees. We saw seals and sea lions. We sailed into the ocean for a bit. The seas were not too rough, and we were able to enjoy the wine we brought along. He had a few funny jokes. We would highly recommend this trip, you will highly enjoy your time.

We had a wonderful time with Rich. One person in our party was very nervous about going out in rough water, and getting seasick. Rich was very thoughtful of her, and took care to where he went to make things as smooth as possible for her. His great personality and knowledge of the area made the trip great.

We were up on a weekend trip for my birthday. i wanted a fresh perspective on Bodega Bay, and this was a wonderful way to get it. The day before we hiked around Bodega Head, which was a great way to prepare for sailing around Bodega Bay.
The wind was a little low, so we used the motor to go south. Then Rich raised the sails and we came back in a leisurely fashion. Along the way we saw seals, sea lions, a wrecked ship, a variety of sea birds, and a lot of gorgeous coastline. We had cloudy weather, which was great, as it kept us cool the whole way.
We were a little hesitant to be trapped in a boat with a stranger for 3 hours, but we need not have worried. The owner/operator, Rich, was great. He was knowledgeable, funny, and a good conversationalist. He was previously a park ranger in Bodega, so he knows quite a bit about the local wildlife, environs, and economy.
Overall we were very happy with the trip and will surely remember it for years.
