Itinerary
- 1Start the tour after meeting your personal Guide at hotel lobby in Orchha. Drive 4 Kilometres from Orchha to Azadpura in a comfortable air conditioned car driven by private chauffeur to visit Chandra shekher Azad Memorial. A monument built in honour of one of the greatest freedom fighters of all time- Chandrashekhar Azad, this memorial is a true representation of what the revolutionary hero stood for. It also houses a life-size bronze statue of Chandrashekhar Azad. Visit the tribal village, to see the family houses and lifestyles. See how cow dung and clay is used to cover the ground around the houses to make smooth surfaces. The inside of the houses are bare apart from a line with the clothes strung across, and some bedding; the beds are outside in summer and inside in winter. Cow dung is also used as cooking fuel. Interact up close to learn clay pot making for water and oil to use and to sell. Pots with a small slit are used as money boxes and have to be smashed to release the money. The clay comes from the Betwa river bank and the wheel was spun on a spike turned by a stick in a groove on the outside. Visit the school building which has the names of the teachers and the number of pupils painted on the wall, with a chalk area on the wall of a class area. Meals are provided each day which encourages the children to come to school. Drive to another group of houses in the farms to see fields farmed with wheat, mustard seed etc. See ladies making baskets with palm leaves and bamboo reeds, dyed with natural dyes. Visit Taragram paper making factory, an NGO. It receives waste from the clothing industry all over India and uses the cotton fibres to make paper. From a pulp it is made into layers of the required thickness and then pressed and dried, rolled to make it thinner, and then cut to size. They make watermarked paper for degree certificates as well as books, photo frames, lampshades, waste bins etc. This NGO provides job to the ladies in tribe to make their life better. Return back to your hotel in Orchha with happy memories!
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Deepakambar0 contributionsWorth visiting Orccha to see well maintained monuments! We had a kind of long tour of MP (17 days) starting from Indore to Gwalior, spread over northeast part of MP. MP has mixture of attractions which at most places, are well maintained and preserved! Parking and washrooms are available at most of the locations, that’s highly appreciated! Guide services at most places are available, however, like elsewhere in India, less dignified! Orccha was a bit of surprise in our tour as we had minimal expectations! We reached Orccha around 10.30 am and went straight to Rajaram Mandir. Chaturbhuj Mandir is just annexed to this. One reaches the Fort of Orccha by crossing the road and one can easily walk all the way! However, for needy, Rikshwa is available for ₹10/person! All these places are well preserved and well maintained! One should take guide services which give a better understanding and experience! One has scope for bargain deals! Make it a point to go to the terraces of Chaturbhuj Temple for the stunning views of the fort and the other monuments in Orccha. It took almost 4 hours for a leisurely walk through these magnificent places! We had lunch at MP tourism’s Betwa restaurant which was quite good for a bit higher prices! From here we went to visit Chatris (cenotaphs, around 3 kms away ) and Betwa River, where boating facilities are available! Lastly we visited Laxmi temple which is situated on a hilltop and has wonderful views of Orccha! It was sunset by the time we started for Jhansi and had great experience overall!! So in nutshell, one should reserve minimum 6, Preferably 8 hours to visit all the monuments and one should do it! I’ve avoided describing details of monuments which are available on google!Written March 16, 2024
- Kelly A0 contributionsEverything to love about India all in the one place!Orchha is such a unique and stunning town! There is a lot to see and including lots of spectacular places only a local would know how to find. This friendly family has understanding of tourists needs and a genuine commitment to local community development. We have been to India four times and explored right across the country and we couldn't recommend this experience enough, it is truly an India highlight. Something my husband and I will never forget and we will definitely be back!Written September 15, 2021
