What to expect
We’ll begin by bicycling over to Nyaung Oo Market, Bagan’s most famous outdoor bazaar. We’ll find tradespeople from all over the region meeting to swap their wares, sell their products, and even offer tourists locally made handicrafts and textiles. After peddling on to the temple complex and Shwezigon Pagoda, a magnificent 11th century pagoda. Then the 12th century Gubyaukgyi Temple, notable for its interior frescoes, the oldest in all of Bagan, and it’s historic two stone pillars displaying inscriptions in four, ancient Southeast Asian languages: Pali, Old Mon, Old Burmese, and Pyu. The last morning stop is the famous Ananda Temple, known for it’s fusion of Mon and Indian style and status as one of four surviving temples of ancient Bagan, before returning to your hotel for a midday break. After a crucial respite from the midday heat and sun, back on the trail and en route to a lacquerware workshops in Myinkabar Village and ride to other famous temples: the Manuha Temple and the Hindu Nanbaya Temple.
