One of the best experiences I’ve ever had in life was climbing the Kilimanjaro. Materuni Tours is a well organized local company and it did everything great during my journey. Ambrose was always very attentive and took good care preparing the trekking. Emanuel was an amazing guide and helped me a lot during that 8 days. All the team did a great job: the guide, the cook and the porters!! None of that could have happened without them. I highly recommend Materuni Tours!

In February 2024 we climbed the Kilimanjaro using the Machame route in 7 days. The trek was organized by Materuni Tours, a local company. Ambrose, the owner of Materuni Tours knows his stuff and everything was very well organized. We had a great team of porters, the chef prepared delicious food and the guides were excellent. Also the stay at the Kilimanjaro Accommodation before and after the trek was very enjoyable with a great chef preparing meals on demand. The safari was a little bonus we had not planned before arriving in Moshi. It was again perfectly organized last minute by Ambrose. I truly recommend Materuni Tours, especially because it is locally owned.

Our guide Kaleby picked us up from the hotel in Arusha and we went to the beautiful park Tarangire. We saw many animals and the views were amazing. Kaleby had a answer to every question we had. We saw a leopard! We spent the night in Haven Nature Lodge. Great place, good food, great staff! Early in the morning we drove to Ngorogoro Crater. Undescribable place, we came close to lions with 4 cubs playing. Elephants, hyenas, sebras, wildbeasts, birds. Materuni tours did all they promised. Great guide, good car and good food.

Unforgettable experience climbing Kilimanjaro and doing 5 day safari. The mountain team were 1st class and do everything for you on the mountain so all you need to do is walk, giving you the best chance of summiting. Safari was a really fun was of spending the 2nd week, we saw lots of amazing animals including the big 5, and also nice way to meet other travellers. Materuni Tours provide a very personalised experience, and will look to arrange anything you want at short notice. If you’re a solo traveller and looking to be part of a group, best check first when there are sign ups and for which routes, as there’s no guarantee there will be a group if you select your own dates. Also the accommodation is nice but a bit out of town and feels like a safe house, so if you’re wanting to try and link up with other travellers/climbers then worth arranging a hostel in Moshi. Otherwise a fantastic experience!

We made a more days tour. We were going to Arusha National Park, Tarangire Park, Serengeti and the Ngorongoro. We had a great guide Nuru who knew so many things and tell us about all the parks. We saw all of the Big 5 that was amazing. I can recommend this safari tour!!! Materuni thx

This tour will give you a really good perspective how the daily life of a real person in a Tanzanian village looks like. They will bring you the beautiful waterfall and after have a coffee workshop. Extra special was the personal touch of the guide who lived his whole childhood in Materuni village. He showed his house where he grew up and we visited the school where he went as a child.

Thank you Ambrose for organizing our big excursion. From the prep lead up to the day we arrived, to pick up from airport, accomodation and finally the 7 day lemosho hike, we felt very taken care of and this was really a trip of a lifetime. He organized our complete trip, 6 days safari + 6 days sansibar, considering all our individual wishes and preferences. The selected tour was well planned and all accommodations were well selected and very nice - he really took care of everything! The safari-car was high standard and our driver / safari-guide, Freddy, was amazing - he was like a living enzyclopedia. He saw even well hidden animals, knew every detail about them and always made sure we were save. We couldn't whish for more! We fully recommend booking your safari tour via Materuni tours!

Very late evening I decided to go on a halfday trip the next morning to Materuni waterfalls including a ‚coffee ceremony‘. So I texted Ambrose, owner of the Materuni Tours company (you find the whatsapp number on their website), he replied within 10 min, we arranged the trip and I got picked up by him the next morning at my ‘hotel’. The perfect service continued, including picking up my lunch box. On the way to the waterfalls we were able to see Kili and even Mt Meru, Ambrose explained me a lot about the flora and fauna, the local Chagga people (he’s one of them :)), Tanzanian schools etc. It was a perfect tour with a real local since he was born in a village very close to the waterfalls. So he could even show me the school he went to and: the social projects he’s organizing and supporting at schools like building a kitchen or a playground! After having some local coffee (self grained and roasted!) he dropped me off at my hotel again (after a stop at ATM & supermarket). I truly can recommend him/Materuni Tours. Incredible service! I climbed the Kilimanjaro and it was amazing! The guide was patiente and really knew the mountain, the food was incredible and all the porters was thoughtfull.

We booked a Kilimanjaro 7 days Machame tour with Materuni tours. One word: Amazing. The contact with Ambrose was perfect before arrival. The days before our tour Ambrose gave us a briefing about our climbing tour what was very helpful. The tour itself was incredible. The guides helped us so much to reach to the summit. Everything was organised so well. Really recommend this organisation also because it's local!

I booked the 6-7 days Machame through Materuni. Communication was easy even though I live in California. Ambrose assisted in answering all of my concerns over emails. Day 1: Picked up for airport and met up with Ambrose. I made the payment in cash because the credit card fee wasn’t in my favor. No fault to Materuni because fees in Tanzania is ridiculous due to the financial infrastructure. We discussed the agenda for the excursion. Ambrose made suggestion on which hotel to stay at, but i chose to stay at a hostel nearby his business because I wanted to explore the town. All set to go and I was excited. Day 2: Picked up from hostel by Materuni and was introduced to the crew that assisted me up to the mountain. We then headed directly to the trailhead. We started hiking after everything was approved by the national park agents. From Day 2-5, it was all mental absorption of the wonderful nature surrounding Mount Kilimanjaro.The Guide provided some insights into the Tanzanian culture. The other crew members will always hike ahead of you because 1. They are fast and 2. They wanted to prepare tents and food for you prior to your arrival. Make sure to discuss the food option with Ambrose prior to the trip. I totally forgot to ask about the food option beforehand. I didn’t eat any of the jar contents provided. If there’s no need then it’ll reduce the weight for the crew members. You’ll have an opportunity to meet many strangers who share the same interests as you along the way up to the summit. On the 5th day, we started hiking up to the summit at around 11:30pm. Believe me, you’ll want to ensure that you get proper sleep the night before. I got symptoms of high altitude sickness which wasn’t fun. I managed to be a man and hiked up. It took us the same day to get back down to the last campsite. Be sure to enjoy the experience and not race to the top. Overall the experience was great. The service that Materuni and from the owner, Ambrose was outstanding.

The trip was great and we all enjoyed it very much. I can only recommend going with Mataruni tours as they are very professional and organized. The guides were all very nice and helped us reach the top.
