Private Mount Kilimanjaro Hiking Via Marangu Route.

By Hillborn Organic Coffee
About
Marangu route, Nickname "Coca-Cola" route, is the oldest, most well established route on Kilimanjaro. This is the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations in lieu of camping. There are 60 bunk beds each at Mandara and Kibo Huts, and 120 bunk beds at Horombo Hut.Guests are supplied with mattresses and pillows, but sleeping bags are still required. The huts have communal dining halls and basic washrooms, ranging from flushing toilets and running water at the lower huts to long drop toilets and buckets of water at Kibo Hut.Many favor Marangu because it is considered to be the easiest path on the mountain, given its gradual slope and direct path. However the short time frame of the route makes altitude acclimatization fairly difficult. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the southeast. Marangu is unfortunately less scenic than the other routes because the ascent and descent are along the same path. It is also the most crowded route for that reason.

        Chasing the Majestic Materuni Falls
Being a Waterfall Lover, I was excited about the sight of the Mighty Materuni Falls. It was an exceptional experience hiking with Frimin. Will definitely go back to Moshi

        A Perfect Day
I had a perfect day. I was picked up at my hotel and Noela and I went to the market to buy the ingredients we needed. It was busy and good to see the local ways. We then drove to Materuni Village where we prepared and cooked four dishes. The women in the village made me very welcome and it was a lovely experience. I would thoroughly recommend this trip to anyone. At the end of cooking you sit down and eat your meal that you cooked. A fantastic day in a mountain village

        I will be back
Working with hillborn organic coffee  to be sure that we saw as much as we could in and around Moshi was a great experience! Our booking experience was easy and very pleasant and their prices were very competitive with other tour companies we looked into. We were picked up at our arranged time from our hotel and our guides were laid back but knowledgeable and appeared excited to spend the day with us. Our first day trip was to the Materuni Waterfall and our guide was Gift Rasta man. Hey people,he is the best.First, we stopped at Hillborn Organic Coffee to learn about local organic coffee production and have a cup of the best coffee I've ever had (that we helped make from scratch pretty much!). Gift and Oscar led us on a beautiful path with great views through the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro until we came to the gorgeous waterfall. We had the option to swim and spend as much time as we wanted at the falls but the water was really cold. There was a nice spot that overlooked the falls where we ate our lunch and had some very pleasant conversation before heading back.We had a really memorable day. It was a lot of fun.

        The best coffee and hospitality
I've been two Kilimanjaro twice now and I always schedule time to visit Hillborn Organic Coffee. Oscar and his family give up close hands on tour of the planation from every stage of growing and preparing the coffee. The coffee that Oscar served us is possibly the best coffee I've ever had. And don't forget the waterfall! Maternui waterfall is spectacular. You may want to bring your bathing suit and go for a plunge!

        A favorite experience
It was one of our most favorite experiences in Tanzania. The hike was like paradise and the coffee was brilliant. Hard to drink coffee in America now. We took my 65+ mother in law and three kids under 8. We went in 2016.

        Coffee plantation tour
This was a very entertaining and highly educational and experiencal tour. Oscar, our guide explained in great detail the way in which the Chagga people farm, the traditional roles of men and women and the whole process of growing, harvesting and producing the coffee. We had the opportunity to take part in the process accompanied by traditional songs and were made very welcome in this traditional homestead. The coffee is delicious. Unfortunately due to lack of time we weren't able to visit the waterfalls.

        Outstanding Day Trip
This was the highlight of our five day stay in Moshi and both the waterfall and coffee plantation are close to each other, making this a good combo. The hike was moderate and beautiful, and joining the intimate setting for the organic coffee plantation was well worthwhile. It's a relatively small coffee plantation, and they show you how they process the coffee beans. Not only show you, but allow you to participate in the process....singing and having fun while doing so. That made it even more special to be able to purchase some beans to take back home.

personal visit with a coffee plantation
It was fun and interesting getting a first hand introduction to organically growing and roasting coffee using traditional methods. The owner took delight in going through the process, and putting us to work in pulping the beans. With thanks to Kilimanjaro Full Moon Adventures and Safaris for organizing this for us in conjunction with the hike to Materuni Waterfalls.

        Coffee
I am a (self proclaimed) coffee fundi, and to have this down to earth, small scale, real life coffee experience was amazing. Best coffee I’ve tasted, and as organic as can be. Don’t expect a glam 5-star setting, but wooden benches with an authentic experience. The waterfall is stunning and provides a welcome dip!

        Materuni coffee Tour
Amazing tour, great people and extraordinary coffee. This tour is located in a village on the slopes of kilimanjaro and produces quality arabica coffee. Enjoy making coffee from bean to cup with limited use of modern technology...
