About
The Lemosho route 7 days is a very scenic hiking route, starting on the western slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro before merging with the Machame Route half way through. It leads you through a lush rain-forest, past the eerie forest and up to the Barranco Wall. The altitude profile of the Lemosho Route is ideal for acclimatization, allowing climbers to hike to higher altitudes during the day than they’ll be sleeping overnight.
The Lemosho Route can be completed in 7 or 8 days. We mostly recommend the 8 day Lemosho Route over the 7-day Lemosho Route to allow more time to acclimatize to the high altitude.

- S5818IAnataliac0 contributionsAbsolutely amazing! There are no words adequate enough to describe how amazing the experience with Tanzania Travelers, Rama and his Team Raha was. It was my second time with the team and I couldn't have imagined it to be someone else. My guide, Rama, together with one of the guys from the team, Kajole, took care of me already two days before the hike and also two days after. They waited for me at the hotel of my choice, helped me with the luggage and to arrange everything (SIM card, taking me places, and whatever came to my mind). We started with 3-day Meru hike and it was great for acclimatization. The views were spectacular, the trail diverse and soooo empty. After finishing Meru, right the next day, we started hiking up Kilimanjaro - 7-day Rongai route. Again beautiful landscapes, amazing view of Kilimanjaro almost all the time, and also of Mawenzi peak. And again - sooo empty, until Kibo Hut. We summited before 7am witnessing a breathtaking sunrise. Everything was perfect: the views, the pace, the tent, the mattress, the sleeping bag... But the best was the company. Rama is an exceptional guide but also an amazingly good person. He really knows everyone on the mountain :D You can talk to him about anything and he's got so much to say :D:D – both serious and funny stuff. And hiking with him you will get the most stunning pictures. The food was out of this earth, prepared by Eddy, the sweetest person I’ve ever met. He had asked me about my preferences before the hikes and remembered everything I had shared with him – fresh salads with lime juice were always there, a lot of fruit, and a special wish for ugali on the last day he also fulfilled, and so much more. I wouldn’t have done it without Othuman either, who would wake me up with a cup of ginger tea delivered to my tent every morning to wake me up. He would also challenge me by talking to me in Swahili – I learnt a lot of Swahili words from him, Eddy and from Mogeredja (with him I even sang in Swahili), and I am extremely thankful for their help with the language – both for teaching me and for providing me with the opportunities to practice. And then there were Sigi, Nelly and Kajole, who did the most important job of carrying my stuff and our supplies all the way to base camps. And even though it’s not a pleasant kind of work, they always had a smile and some nice words for me. Last but not least, after the hike I was taken by a motorbike to Chemka Hot Springs and Materuni Waterfalls – another adventure that I will never forget. I am already planning the third hike up Kilimanjaro, and it will be definitely with Tanzania Travelers, Rama and his awesome team. Thank you for making me feel part of your family.Written March 11, 2024
- stelutab20240 contributionsExperience of a lifetime! One of the coolest and most challenging experiences ever! We chose the Lemosho route as it's very beneficial for acclimatization and it has higher chances of reaching the summit. Our crew was amazing and there's no way we would have made the summit without the expert guidance and encouragement from Rama, Ali and their entire team! Their kindness and patience were shown and they were very helpful in any matter and looked after us which made us feel safe throughout the expedition. A special thank you for the well organized trip by Vainest, who helped us put all of these together and prepared us for the great adventure! Thank you so much Tanzania Travelers for a memorable journey!Written January 16, 2024
- StevenW9360 contributionsKilimanjaro - Machame 6 DayVaineste was a wonderful communicator, answering all my questions for months prior to my arrival in Tanzania. She was on time for pickup on the morning of our hike before ever meeting, which was a great sign! Rama and his team led us on the Machame route and we endured all the tough conditions to summit and return safely. The food was great, and the crew’s vibes were also wonderful. I would highly recommend booking with Vaineste, Rama, and Tanzania Travelers!Written January 10, 2024
- 008ngt0 contributionsSuper Duper Experience: Kilimanjaro and SafariI want to express my gratitude to Mrs. Vaineste Mallya for her outstanding service in planning my recent trip to Tanzania. Her personal attention to my specific requirements and her patience in addressing all my questions related to the Kilimanjaro trek and the Safari made the experience truly remarkable. I would also like to extend my thanks to Mr. Tammy, my trek guide, and his exceptional team for their unwavering support during my time on the mountain. This trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it has been an incredible experience for me with the help of the expertise and dedication of Mrs. Vaineste and her team. I would highly recommend the company, Tanzania Travelers by Vaineste, for your bookings related to Mt. Kilimanjaro and Tanzania Safari.Written October 18, 2023
- Daydream380732542000 contributionsCould not recommend more! What an experience! We climbed the 6 day Marangu route as a group of friends and it was the best thing we’ve ever done. Our guides Rama, Tammy and Ali were absolutely amazing and have climbed the mountain around 1000 times between them. We were impressed about how well they looked after us, checking our blood oxygen and pulse every night and making sure we were ok every step of the way. The porters were incredible and the real hero’s. A highlight was them unlacing and dusting off our boots after summit day, just to highlight one of the heroic gestures from them. Food was full of carbs which was needed, and Mo was our favourite, waking us up with coffee and water for washing every morning. We enjoyed the guides playing local Tanzanian music to keep the moral up through the long days and nights. Tanzania traveller tours were extremely responsive to any queries and booked taxis for us to and from the airport at a very good price. I could not recommend this company more highly as they made the experience 100% for us.Written June 19, 2023
- rileydclark0 contributionsEpic experience with amazing people!Insanely epic! We picked the right group to help create a once in a lifetime experience. - koltc20230 contributionsWorth every pennyHighly recommend Tanzania travelers! The hike was amazing and the people were so helpful and kind. We upgraded to the luxury package and that was worth every penny. I was mostly worried about sleeping at night, but the cots and large tents were super comfortable and I slept like a baby. The food was much better than expected with a good variety each meal. Our guide, Rama, was the man! He led our group with confidence, was very organized, and by the end of the trip he and the rest of the guides were our good friends. I loved all the songs and dances, they were fun and uplifting. They went above and beyond for my birthday with a cake, a big canvas banner they had printed and personalized, and the safari jeep was personalized with a sign as well. Our safari guide was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Tanzania travelers helped with all our accommodations with traveling to Zanzibar after the hike, flights, booking massages, and visiting an orphanage, making it stress free. So happy we went with them, they were a 10/10.Written February 8, 2023
- Meredith S0 contributionsIncredible experience—highly recommendI would give these guys 6 stars if I could. If you have the opportunity to book an expedition up Mt. Kilimanjaro using Tanzania Travelers, DO IT, but make sure to request Rama as your lead guide. We made the trek a couple weeks ago, and I can’t rave about the whole experience enough. The whole company was fantastic, but Rama was a phenomenal guide on the mountain. He speaks good English and just knows that mountain like the back of his hand. He was able to assess our group perfectly and lead us in a way that ensured our success to the summit. And—bonus— he’s just a really cool dude. We took the Lemosho route and absolutely loved it. The scenery and terrain changed every day and as it did, we were constantly in awe of the different landscapes. It was meant to be an 8 day trek but we ended up pushing through one camp on day 2 to cut our journey down to 7 days and we were happy we did that. The team of guides and porters was absolutely incredible in not only the impressive way they hike with heavy loads and operate the camps so efficiently, but in the friendliness and kindness they showed us throughout the journey. We felt completely taken care of literally every step of the way, and I commented to our group several times how safe they made us feel. We truly felt like they cared about us and we came to love them all so much—we honestly miss them! After our Kilimanjaro trek we did a few days of safari arranged by Tanzania Travelers and it was also terrific. We had awesome guides who really knew their stuff and were pleasant to ride around with for long hours. I really feel like Tanzania Travelers would have accommodated whatever we could request or dream up during our time there. They were just that great!Written February 8, 2023
- Bryant S0 contributionsAmazing ExperienceWe arrived as a group of 4 couples to hike Kilimanjaro followed by 3 days of safari! Can’t tell you what an amazing and special experience Tanzania Travelers provided for us. Their guides were amazing! Rama, Salim, Tammy, and Mosu were excellent and skilled guides. They always went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, understood the terrain and weather and ensured we had the time of our lives! All 8 of our group successfully made it to the summit with little to no difficulty or affects of altitude. All of our porters, chefs, and support staff were energetic and genuinely happy. We loved engaging with them and learning about their culture and them teaching us some Swahili. The food on the mountain was delicious and we were in awe of the types of freshly cooked hot meals we received each day. Would 100% recommend Tanzania Travelers to anyone considering hiking Kilimanjaro and/or going on safari! Ask for Rama for your head guide! He remains a dear friend following our experience with him!Written February 8, 2023

- OleksandraZ30 contributionsHappy with Happy teamWe were three girl-friends climbing Kilimanjaro and going to safari. First of all, Vaineste and her husband answered all our questions prior to the trip. Then they picked us up at the airport, accommodated is in the hotel and we had a nice briefing in their office the next day. It was great to meet our guide, Rama, who briefed us about the route and then he checked our equipment. For Kilimanjaro climb we have taken Machame route and we had Rama as guide and his Raha team supporting our climb. The track was difficult due to weather conditions: all six days rain and the first snow when we had to summit. However, we were among the first ones to summit the Uhuru point and this is predominantly due to the fact that Rama is one of the best and professional guides one can have. He answers all questions but at the same time does not overboard, he knows the equipment, gives you stuff if needed, can help you with everything, sets the pace, checks your health conditions. He and his team is truly a happy team, good sense of humor, and they adjust to people. We felt safe and we were treated by every member of the team with respect and support. Additionally, the food is worth mentioning. The cook was brilliant. His soups and other delicious meals kept our mood up in all times. So, ask for Rama and his Raha team and you will summit Kili. On Safari we went to Ngorongoro, Tarangiri, and Manyare National Parks. The drive was a bit rough, but we managed to see four out big five. The guide was communicating with other guides and in that was we could find good spots to see the animals. We stayed in a tent in a lodge and it was perfectly fine: nice beds, shower and food was provided.Written October 22, 2019
- barbaraz8740 contributionsMarangu Route with Rama’s companyMe and my friend have done the Marangu Route accompanied by Rama and his boys. Great experience, really good food and generous portions thanks to our chef Mayooh . Also, a big thanks to Mohammed who woke us up every morning so gently and to all porters who have been with us in this experience (Nelly, Eddy, Joseph, Matei, Juma e Musa). Thanks to our guides Rama and Salim who brought us safe and sound to the top of the mountain. Highly recommended trekking !!Written August 25, 2019
- Dexter B0 contributionsVisa ProcedurePrior to arrival here to Zanzibar from Dubai, I searched the net but could not find any guidance on Visa Procedure. I thought I will share my experience. Around 100 passengers arrived at the same time and everyone was busy filling forms. As we are Kiwis we are eligible for visa on arrival. But forms have to be filled up. I took a couple of big white forms and occupied a slot at the desk where pens were kept and started filling our forms...mine and my wife's. As I looked around I saw people filling red arrival forms. It said domestic arrival cards...but saw Europeans also filling these forms. We started filling the forms, when one of the immigration officers said that is not the form...fill one for international travellers. Another officer started helping my wife in filling her form. Though the big form had place for two passport photos, they said not required. We then took our passports and forms to the payment counter and paid USD50 each by cash. This can be by credit card. Then went to processing counter and visas were stamped after biometrics procedures were completed. We collected our luggage from the carousel and proceeded to customs, where there was a long queue as there was only one xray machine in operation. The queue did not last long and after xray of our luggage we walked out. The whole process did not take more than 30 mins and the immigration officials were very helpful. It would have been quicker if we knew the procedure and which forms to fill out. Very happy with our experience.Written August 13, 2019

I and my wife just returned after a successful expedition to Mt Kilimanjaro with Tanzania Travellers. The professionalism of the Guides, caring and affectionate nature of all the support staff who took care of our every need and superb planning and management skills of the agency proprietor Ms Vaineste Mallaya is going to remain deeply entrenched in our memory. The Head Guide Ramadin and his team of two more Guides Hameed 1 and Hameed 2 are perhaps one of the best in the profession- always very encouraging, motivating and making you believe in your self. They made this tough climb a thoroughly exhilarating and fulfilling experience. Thank you for making our dream come true.
Vaineste travelled with us personally for the post expedition Safaris and we got a chapnce to see closely her warm, affectionate and charming personality in addition to her superb business leadership qualities. To sum it up our expedition and safari experience was not just a great value for money - it was a wonderful amalgamation of professionally supervised high adventure, premium and comfortable facilities, excellent food and a life time of memories of the time we could spend with some of the happiest people on this planet.
Keep it up Tanzania Travelers! May your path be blessed.

First and foremost: Rama is the greatest of all time. Not only is he a wonderful person, but he made us feel so safe every day and was so attentive to us (checked our consumption, pulse-ox levels, gave us daily briefings). He’s got such a calm demeanor and no question or ask it too burdensome - he’s the ultimate professional and coach. There is no one that knows the mountain as well as him … he also knows everyone on the mountain lol. I’m convinced he’s the mayor of Kilimanjaro. I think all of this gave us the confidence and encouragement we needed to reach the top on summit day.
He and his team ( Amouri Ally - assistant guide, Eddy - stomach engineer and mountain meal magician, Othman - waiter/critical morale support , etc etc) became family by the end of the week. My partner and I started referring to them as angels - that’s how wonderful they are. Their smiles, good vibes, and constant encouragement helped us get through a really intense week of rain, hail, freezing temperatures leading up to summit day. Not only that, they met us at the base to congratulate and welcome us back. I legit teared up.
We could not have summited without this incredible dream team.

Beforehand the trip, I was so comfortable as being connected with the team through chat apps and confirmation through phone for all I needed to know. The chief guide and sub guide were impeccable for everyday support in needs--ie. explaining vegetation and animals unique to Kilimanjaro, everyday packing and arranging of the luggage, meal, drink, medical checkup--up to the final day load free hike to the summit and rescuing and transporting of my company for unexpected altitude sickness. There's even more, all those cool pics were taken by my chief guide upon his suggestion of modeling and posing!
