About
This route provides the opportunity to “trek high and sleep low” which is considered important in minimizing the potential for altitude sickness.
The climb starts above the picturesque mountain village of Machame to the south of Kilimanjaro. After passing through the Machame forest and into the moorland zone, we scramble up and over some rocks and eventually emerge onto the Shira Plateau. We then advance counter-clockwise traversing below the southern face of Kibo, climb Lava Tower for magnificent 360 degree panoramas, ascend the Great Barranco Wall, a challenging and exhilarating rock scramble, and approach Uhuru Summit from Barafu or Kossovo Camp and the ridge that abuts the Southeast Valley. The climb from Barafu offers incredible views of Mawenzi Peak and Kilimanjaro’s remnant volcanic cone.

- Esyl0 contributionsFantastic 8 day Family Tanzania Adventure!A fantastic experience with Jaribu for our first family adventure to Africa. Joseph helped put together a great itinerary which included Safari in Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, broken up with two days around Karatu/Lake Eysasi where we did a bicycle ride through Mto Wa Mbu (all bikes and helmets great standard) and visiting the Hadzabe and Dagota tribes - a real highlight was hunting with the Hadzabe who are one of the few true hunter gatherer societies in existence. The mix of wildlife and people and culture kept our teens interested throughout out 8 day experience. We flew out to the Serengeti direct to Zanzibar, arranged by Jaribu and picked up our own AirBnB there. International bank transfer was smooth and communication pre and post trip was great. Our guide was knowledgeable and helpful and flexed the trip to our families needs when required. Would definitely recommend Jaribu to others seeking a local operator- it’s a great way to know you are investing in Tanzania and not a middle man and the price was very competitive compared to other operators.Written September 1, 2024
- JohnMongo0 contributionsEmmanuel of Jaribu was superbOur UK safari travel company used Jaribu to be our guide in Tanzania and make the local arrangements. We did a safari starting in Arusha national park, safari walk, canoe, bike ride, Masai painting for the kids, then visited ngorongoro crater staying at the opulent ngorongoro coffee lodge, then in to Serengeti camp at the hippo trails camp, canvas tents on raised wooden floors with proper beds, showers, electricity ensuite normal toilet. There's a campfire each night, and a tent in raised floor with a bar. You sleep to the grunts of nearby lions, and we had a buffalo chewing next to our tent. Strangely it's safe. Emmanuel was our guide and driver, he's fantastic, kind, knowledgeable, great with the kids even finding wee stops either at proper toilet centres or behind the land cruiser away from lions! He thoroughly looked after us, and was like a family friend, but always professional, and thankfully a safe driver. He also made sure accommodation catered for a coeliac and two vegetarian slightly fussy kids. Rice is always available as us watermelon and juice. Emmanuel made sure we found amazing animals, really impressive. Practical stuff, you can charge via usb in the 4x4, or some accomodation uses UK 3oin, others use Tanzania 3 pin, I used a type D adaptor with usb ports. We saw no mosquitoes (august).Written August 27, 2024

The experience of hiking and sight seeing mount Kilimanjaro my own eyes will be with me for the rest of my life.
Jaribu Africa Adventures looked after us from start to finish. There guide Goodluck was first class with every aspect of the trip, the cook who prepared the food, tea and the marangu huts. Goodluck knew the names of all the places we passed on the way to Uhuru peak.
Even there porters were was very helpful with every aspect of the trip.
Another highlight of the trip was summiting to Uhuru peak where you see Kilimanjaro at its most wonderful splendor.
Put on your boots and give it a go, I highly recommend Joseph and the Jaribu Africa Adventures staffs.
