Kilimanjaro Machame Route 6 Days

Kilimanjaro Machame Route 6 Days

By Jaribu Africa Adventures
About
This route provides the opportunity to “trek high and sleep low” which is considered important in minimizing the potential for altitude sickness. The climb starts above the picturesque mountain village of Machame to the south of Kilimanjaro. After passing through the Machame forest and into the moorland zone, we scramble up and over some rocks and eventually emerge onto the Shira Plateau. We then advance counter-clockwise traversing below the southern face of Kibo, climb Lava Tower for magnificent 360 degree panoramas, ascend the Great Barranco Wall, a challenging and exhilarating rock scramble, and approach Uhuru Summit from Barafu or Kossovo Camp and the ridge that abuts the Southeast Valley. The climb from Barafu offers incredible views of Mawenzi Peak and Kilimanjaro’s remnant volcanic cone.

    Guides went above and beyond
We booked this trip direct with Jaribu after a friend’s recommendation. Everything went smoothly from airport pick up, hotels to trek. The actual trek was tougher than we had expected as despite being fit only one of our party had experienced altitude before. Two of us suffered with mild altitude sickness but the advice and support of the guides kept us safe at all times and ensured that we summitted. Mathew and Ayumi the guides were so patient and helpful. The porters were polite and friendly and Jeff , the cook produced food which would have been top class even under normal conditions. It was amazing to reach the summit at sunrise. Don’t do this trip if you’re not prepared to rough it as conditions on the mountain are hard but if you’re looking for a good company I would totally recommend Jaribu.

    Amazing safari experience
We did a 7 Day Luxury Safari. Joseph at Jaribu Africa Adventures made all the arrangements. He was very responsive to our questions, concerns and requests. The information he gave us was all very helpful. Our trip was wonderful. It was everything we believed it would be. We did safari in Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Our guide/driver Julius did a wonderful job. He was very knowledgeable about the Animals, birds, plants, ecology, ecosystems, history and so much more. He has a real understanding for the area and love for his country. The accommodations Joseph made for us were amazing. Everyone was friendly, helpful and very good at their jobs. Very professional. The tip recommendations we received should be twice what was listed. Very hardworking people.

    Outstanding company!
Jaribu Africa Adventures are an outstanding company! Joseph and his team organised a 12 day bespoke adventure for us in Tanzania and although we knew it would be good, it far far exceeded our expectations. Our trip was superbly organised and it was clear that customer satisfaction was their number one priority. The most notable thing about Jaribu was its people. Joseph is clearly a great judge of character as every single member of his team were fantastic. Our safari guides, Gerry and Joseph (a different Joseph) were excellent; full of knowledge on the local area and all the local animals, and excellent with our two children (11 & 13). Our 8 day climb of Kilimanjaro was a life-changing experience we will never forget, but again it was the Jaribu team that really made it so special. Huge thanks to all the team but particularly Dennis, Ayomi, Harry, Godfrey, Malik, Peus and the world's greatest Head Guide, Matthew. Honestly, the determination/empathy/kindness/understanding shown by Matthew is something that we will always be grateful for - without him we definitely wouldn't have summited as a family. If you're thinking of booking with Jaribu, my advice would definitely be to go for it, the owner and his staff are trustworthy, hardworking, kind and clearly very proud of the exemplary service they offer. 5 stars from us!

    Loolmalasin and Meru
This was my second trip with Jaribu, a continuation of sorts from the previous years adventures with the ever changing covid theater. Joseph is excellent with his responsiveness and attention to detail in coordinating and organization of trips. Julius and Geoff were a welcome sight as they were our guide and cook the precious year. Julius is extremely responsible and reliable. Geoff is attentive and an amazing cook! His soups were even better than I remembered from last year! I could not nor would not have done this trip solo without confidence in Jaribu’s expertise and reliability. Many thanks to all who made this trip a wonderful experience!

Jaribu guides made the difference between a holiday and a true immersion
We went through Jaribu for a mix of cultural and safari experiences lasting 10 days in the Arusha region - including Arusha national park, Tarangire national park, Ngoro Ngoro, Serengeti, but also a guided walk among villages in the foothills of Mount Meru, a cycling tour of the town of Mto Wa Mbu (at the foot of the Rift Valley escarpment) and visits of the still very traditional Hadzabe and Datoga tribes near Lake Eyasi. It was excellent throughout. Our main guide Julius (driver guide) has a very deep knowledge of wildlife and plants and we were in the hands of an expert ‘hunter’ of game views (we didn’t just see wildlife, we saw action - lions hunting down and parcelling out a zebra, buffalos teaming together to ward off a lion, wart-hogs fleeing, an elephant getting in the way of a lion finishing off a wildebeest etc etc). He is highly dedicated and professional, has a very keen eye and just doesn’t give up. He is also a fountain of knowledge on modern-day Tanzania and a good teacher of Swahili! And finally he is a father of three, and we felt this very much as he related perfectly to our kids. We also had shorter-term guides for the walks, cycling and tribal visits and were impressed throughout - John, Ben, Hasan. Genuine people who care about showing their country at its best.

    Ultra-Prominent Peakbagging Trekking Tour - 3 weeks
Joseph provides excellent service with his company and staff. We climbed 8 ultra-prominent peaks all over the country. Our driver guide Julius safely drove us in a comfortable land cruiser all over the country. Our chef Jeff was super friendly and prepared great meals. Next time I come back I would like to combine hiking peaks and animal safari tours. Jaribu Tours is a great company for that as well.

    An amazing fun adventure
This was a very good trip with excellent planning by Jaribu Africa Adventures. My best friend and I booked this tour and experienced days of fun memories. Our tour guide Goodluck was very professional, knowledgeable, helpful and enjoyed entertaining all of us on our hiking adventure. He did well with explaining the Kilimanjaro from past history on up to current events and geological formations. I would recommend this tour to anyone ready to have a great adventure! Each camp we reached was prepared for our arrival and the food was delicious. It was a trip that was so much fun, and we will definitely book with this company if we ever get to return to Kilimanjaro again.

Thank you, Jaribu Africa staff and Joseph in particular, for an amazing lifetime experience hiking to Kilimanjaro Mathew was a very patient leader and our tour guide, very approachable and knowledgeable, he took great care of the group and encouraging on tough hiking days. Mathew was a very patient leader and our tour guide, very approachable and knowledgeable, he took great care of the group and encouraging on tough hiking days. Lots of updates were provided in the lead up to the trip and my friend and I were taken care of from when we arrived in Kilimanjaro until we flew back to Japan. Getting to Uhuru peak base was not easy but definitely worth it and I made new lifelong friends along the way. Come on this trip and achieve the goal of reaching the top of Mount Kilimanjaro and seeing the amazing views of the region. I would definitely recommend going with Jaribu Africa Adventures to hike Mount Kilimanjaro!

    Experience of hiking Kilimanjaro
The experience of hiking and sight seeing mount Kilimanjaro my own eyes will be with me for the rest of my life. Jaribu Africa Adventures looked after us from start to finish. There guide Goodluck was first class with every aspect of the trip, the cook who prepared the food, tea and the marangu huts. Goodluck knew the names of all the places we passed on the way to Uhuru peak. Even there porters were was very helpful with every aspect of the trip. Another highlight of the trip was summiting to Uhuru peak where you see Kilimanjaro at its most wonderful splendor. Put on your boots and give it a go, I highly recommend Joseph and the Jaribu Africa Adventures staffs.

    Kilimanjaro trek
My guide, Mathew, was very experienced and knowledgeable and got me to the top and down safely. The crew was great and attentive, and the food was very good and got prepared on time. My pulse and oxygen levels as well as overall health were constantly monitored everyday, in the so I had a good idea how I was doing during the hiking days. On top of all of that, the pre-hike to mount Meru hiking for 3 days, was great and I felt fully prepared before I even set out. This trip definitely exceeded my expectations. i would highly recommend Jaribu Africa Adventures to anyone looking to go hiking mount Kilimanjaro.
