About
The 8-Day Lemosho route is recommended as the starting point as it's relatively remote and therefore provides trekkers with a rather untouched and wild start to your Mount Kilimanjaro adventure.
Spotting large wildlife, like antelope, buffalo and even elephant is rare but not impossible. The Lemosho route also provides unparalleled and spectacular views of the dramatic gorges that characterize the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- _H5699XR0 contributionsChemka hot spring and Materuni villageThat was kind, nice tour. We went Chemka hot spring and coffee farm(Materuni village) tour. No any trouble, and enjoyed fully. Price was $110~150/3persons, you can negotiate. (It’s just in 2024 August. Price can change according to the inflation, and economic growth in Tanzania) They made us wonderful days in Moshi. Written August 14, 2024
- Buntvogel0 contributionsWe disadvice because we made ambivalent experiencesWe met Kibo in the streets of Moshi and he showed us around. He gained our trust and we went with him on the tour to the waterfall/coffee plantation and later to the Hotsprings. We made the tour to the waterfall with him because he said his family lives there and we can see the farm. But his family doesn't live there! On the tour we found his company pleasant, but he didn't warn us about the high price of drinks in the restaurant (food was included on the trip) and he also didn't prepare us for the fact that the coffee plantation was purely a tourist show. At the end he called us 'mama' (mother) and 'baba' (father) and offered us a lower price than usual for the second excursion (Hotsprings) because "now we are family". On the day of the trip, the price was suddenly 'per person', which was double price and much more expensive comparing with other agencys! At the Hotsprings he safely took care about our belongings. He also sometimes talked nonsense and didn't correct it even by asking. This not only creates a false view of Tanzania, wrong advices of your guide are also very bad to have a good trip! For example, he told us permanently false claims in a residential area that we wanted to visit on our own. In this way, he caused us anxiety and fear. Later research and conversations with more competent guides revealed that his statements were absolute nonsense. And he told us about legal rules in Tanzania that don't exist. After the second excursion, he came to our hotel unannounced and couldn't be dissuaded from spending the day with us, even when we spoke to him in a friendly but clear manner. After all he also tried to arrange larger safaris for us. No, thank you / hapana, asante. To summarize: A very friendly young man who reliably looked after our things while we were bathing and with whom it can be a pleasure to be out and about. But he's also not easy to get rid of. And it is nessesary to get the price on a paper for later discussions. The fact that he asked us to write a review here after these experiences was a bit surprising.Written July 6, 2024
- J7944ID_0 contributionsAmazing Kilimanjaro climbingI did 6days Kilimanjaro climbing via Marangu route and it was the best experience in Tanzania. Good food and you can rent everything you need. After the tour they also guided the town and helped me a lot. They are well organized and highly recommended.Written October 27, 2023

- ryoma_gaku0 contributionsUnforgettable Experience with Hero Summits on Kilimanjaro and SafariI had an incredible experience with a 6-day Kilimanjaro climbing and 2-day safari tour thanks to Hero Summits. The team was fantastic, with special thanks to Kibo for understanding our circumstances and making the necessary plans, Bruno for guiding us with his wealth of knowledge and experience, Juma for preparing delicious meals during our mountain climb, and the porters for carrying our heavy luggage. During the tour, we were able to climb Kilimanjaro and spot many animals on safari. They are rarely punctual, but if you trust them and wait, you'll be fine. Overall, I highly recommend Hero Summits for anyone looking for a well-organized and unforgettable experience on Kilimanjaro and safari.Written March 22, 2023
- Happiness357895074400 contributionsReliable company with friendly guide&driver, good tour experience!I did waterfall-coffee tour-hot spring tour. This company is reliable and gave us good price. The tour guide & driver were nice & friendly. They are very punctual (they arrived earlier and waited for us). They took us to the viewpoint of Kilimanjaro, because they knew we wanted to see the peak of the mountain. Coffee tour was fun (with songs & dances) and the waterfall was nice. The guide had know-hows to take a good video for instagram ( I love all photos and videos they took!) These are worthy to visit. The tour guide told us Swahili expressions, animals and plants on the way to the waterfall. The lunch was local food, very soft and tasty. An then we went to chemka hot spring and enjoyed swimming. There are many doctor fish which eats your dead skin and it was relaxing. Overall I love all the experiences and happy with friendly guide and driver. Highly recommend this company.Written March 13, 2023
- Arman I0 contributionsMemorable 5 days Marungu route! An amazing and memorable hike to the top of Africa. I’m so glad that I had my great guide Francis with me during the whole trip, he was communicative, inspirational, informative and on top of that funny. As well i had the porter Patrick who made sure that I had my food, water, supplies ready for each trip. Basically from the time I sat down with the agency to customise the trip til I got down from Kilimanjaro went very smooth. I’m really happy with the choice of Hero Summits and the very nice tour organiser Rasta Kibo, thank you for making my trip to Kilimanjaro!Written January 11, 2023

- JonathanJ13030 contributionsINCREDIBLE CLIMB!Our friends recommended Hero as the trekking company that they booked with last year and i can truly say we were very happy with the experience. Jonas was our guide and ensured we were fully equipped with trekking poles and slush pants which we needed for the trek and weren't able to travel with, the climb brief was thorough and they followed all safety procedures with an initial temperature check and all staff were equipped with using hand sanitizer and wore masks, but once on the mountain in the open air we were not required which we were perfectly ok with as it obstructs when you're climbing. The food was excellent all the way up and our guide Jonas was very knowledgable and great at communicating the history of the mountain. Overall I would recommend 10/10.Written March 11, 2021
- Claudia200 contributions3 day tour from Moshi to Tarangire and NgorongoroDid a 3 day customized safari in an own shuttle to a lodge there. Kibo arranged everything, so that I could enjoy my holiday experience. Two safaris then in a group. Especially in these challenging times with Covid-19: Thank you very much for your efforts and hope to see you and your team soon!Written January 23, 2021
- Tolga_CA0 contributionsTerrible experience. Avoid....You can die with this company.Terrible experience. You can die with this company. They promise 6 days trekking and try to do it in 3 days. This can cause altitude sickness and may even kill you. Also, they don't warn you about the effects of the sun are much stronger at the high altitudes. The director was the drunk first day he came afternoon instead of the 9:00 am a promise. Also wasted so long time on the way and we started climbing when it was completely pitch dark on the first day. He blamed the police force for being late. He said they told them to be late. Also, the tour company did not do regular temperature checks for the staff The tour company did not offer a paid stay-at-home policy for staff showing symptoms? The hand sanitizer was not readily available Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is the mildest form and it's very common. The symptoms can feel like a hangover – dizziness, headache, muscle aches, nausea. High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) is a buildup of fluid in the lungs that can be very dangerous and even life-threatening.Written January 1, 2021
- Michael M0 contributionsPoor costumer service skillsWe met Kibo on the streets of Moshi and booked the Safari trip with him. Everything felt a little shady from the very beginning. The night prior to our expedition he wanted to meet for a briefing. He met us at the lobby of our hotel to introduced us to our "guide" Noel. We quickly noticed that Kibo was intoxicated at that meeting which was unprofessional and very discouraging. Noel's English was poor as well as his skills as a guide. At some point we started refer to him as our driver, it just felt right having in mind the level of service we were receiving. On the end of the day we would not recommend this company.Written December 28, 2020
- ashchambersj0 contributionsA+ Kilimanjaro experienceCame to Moshi and began searching with different companies offering hikes up Kilimanjaro. I quickly found Hero were offering one of the best deals for the route I wanted to take (Machame). Not only was their price fair but the service I received was exceptional, honestly couldn't fault it. I reached Uhuru peak at 07:28 on 16/11/2020, with the help of my brilliant guide Danson. I don't recommend things enough, but I truly feel this company deserves your business, especially during this pandemic where all tour operators here are experiencing hardship due to the lack of tourists. Thank you to everyone at Hero that made my dream of summiting Kili come true!Written November 17, 2020

Climbing Kilimanjaro is not for the faint of heart. This was, by far, the most difficult thing I have ever done. These 8 days were grueling both emotionally and physically. But there is not a chance I would change the experience one bit.
The team at Hero was wonders to work with. They were more than happy to answer all 362946273 questions I asked before we even booked and helped set our nervous minds at ease before departure. Once we landed in Tanzania, they took care of everything. All we had to do was put one foot in front of the other.
The day before we began our journey, we met up with our guide and assistant guide at EHR Hero offices. We reviewed all of the gear we brought, and arranged for any additional rentals necessary. Hero organized a fantastic team of porters and mountain cook to ensure we would successfully make it to Uhuru Peak and back down.
Have already recommended Hero to numerous friends and family members, and will continue to do so!!

Kilimanjaro (Safari review is at the bottom)
My wife and I had decided that we wanted to go on a safari for our 5 year anniversary when we got married back in 2014. Our friend then convinced us that we should also go and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro (not something I ever thought I would ever be doing).
We found the gentlemen of HERO Summits and couldn't have been happier with our experience! They had set everything up, made all the arrangements, got our gear rented and sized appropriately, and most importantly helped calm me down because I was freaking out!
Climbing Kilimanjaro was the hardest thing I'd ever done in my life and I am so glad that I had great people around me to convince me to do it. Our team at HERO was prepared every morning and evening. Every meal was delicious that was cooked by our chef and every morning began with our team singing the welcome song of Tanzania (quite beautifully might I add).
You will try, but photos will just never do any of your views justice so do your best to take in the views with your own eyes and take mental photos as much as possible!!!
Somehow we absolutely made it to the top and couldn't have been more amazed with ourselves, but honestly, we couldn't have done it without our fantastic guides on that summit morning. They were patient, kept us moving when we needed, made us slow down (pole pole) when it was appropriate, and carried our bags when they got too heavy. They literally do/did everything necessary to ensure the highest probability of summitting and we can't thank them enough for it!
Do yourself a favor and bring chapstick for the summit climb and knee braces for the descent (our knees/quads were in excruciating pain more from the climb down than the way up)!
Safari
The safari after climbing Kili is such a welcome treat! We had amazing guides (Nickson and Gaza) who I swear have hawkeye vision because they can be going 40mph and see a leopard 200 yards in the distance! We saw everything except for the black rhino and we honestly weren't even that upset about it because everything else was so amazing!
Do yourselves a favor though, and bring a windbreaker and a few extra layers because it can get surprisingly cold when the top is up. ALSO, bring a scarf/shawl/balaclava because, well, you're in a desert and there's a lot of dust!
OVERALL, the guys and gals at HERO Summits gave us a trip of a lifetime that we will never forget with memories that will last forever! For that my wife and I are forever grateful to you!
