5 Days Marangu Route Climbing

By Tanzania Joy Tours
About
Marangu Route is also known as the “Coca Cola” or “tourist” route. It is the easiest and shortest route to the summit. This is also the only route with the comforts of sleeping huts at every camp site with solar lights and comfortable beds. The huts are communal, and the bunks have a sponge mattress and pillow. There are 60 beds at both Mandara and Kibo Huts and 120 beds at Horombo Hut. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts. Mens’ and ladies’ latrines are available at the last camp but are very basic. All climbing groups, often from several countries around the world, share meals in dining huts providing a jovial and energetic atmosphere. This route is usually done in 5 days but can be done in 6 days for better acclimatization. The extra day can be spent resting at Horombo or climbing the small peak of Mawenzi.

    Once in a lifetime experience
What an unforgettable experience. Climbing the Kilimanjaro was a wonderful experience thanks to Ringo, Nemence and their team. They were fantastic all along the trip, supporting us and providing a superb experience to make the trip magnificent and fun. Ringo made sure we had the right equipment for the trip. The entire team (18 people) worked extremely hard every day to make us feel comfortable on the camp. On the trail Ringo and Nemence were amazing guides, providing encouragement and insight at every step. Every day, Ringo was checking our health condition for making sure we were okay (medical condition/appetite/heart beating/oxygen) I highly recommend climbing Kilimandjaro Mt with Tanzania Joy tour.

    Serious company and friendly people
Tanzania Joy tours is really a serious company. They were here whenever we had any question when preparing our trip to Kilimanjaro. We did lemosho route in 8 days. Our guides Calvin and Levin and their team of porters was incredible. We spent memorable days. The whole trip was exceptional. The guides are amazing persons, very friendly and this is important since we spent a lot of time together. At the final ascension to the summit they were very motivating and never let us out. The team of porter are also very nice and helpful. Really amazing people that we will never forget on this incredible experience.

    What an amazing experience
So an amazing experience with this local agency to climb the Kilimandjaro. It was initially planed to make it in 7 days by the Machame route but after some days, our chef guide Patrick propose us to make it on 6 days without risk of bad acclimatization and it was successfully ! He is a very professional guide, attentive, with a big knowledge of the mountain. We were also accompagnied by Maiko, also an incredible guide, always here to encourage us, discuss about Tanzania, life, everything. Jeremiah, the cook, made us so good meals during this 6 days. And to finish, a dream team of porters was here to help us, of course to relieve us physically but also with good attentions on the camps and some of them to the top, always in an incredible atmosphere. Nothing would have been possible without this team. I really recommand this agency if you want to success your climb, in security, with a dream team.

    Two day to Horambo Hut
Guide Ringo was amazing. He had local knowledge of the mountain habitats and terrain. This was a two day overnight from base to Horambo Hut. 19 km each way. Our crew prepared great meals and were amazing supports on such an extensive hike. I would ask for this crew again if hiking over more days.

    An incredible experience
Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro with Tanzania Joy was a wonderful experience. Ringo and the team were fantastic, every day they went above and beyond to provide a world class experience and make the trip feel like a balance of adventure and fun. I chose the Lemosho Route as a solo trip, and felt like I was travelling with a group of friends once I met the team. From the first day I emailed Emmanuel, I received quick, detailed replies that made planning the trip a breeze. Once I arrived in Tanzania, my guide Ringo made sure I had the right equipment and prepared for the trip ahead. The entire team worked extremely hard every day to make camp lodgings feel comfortable, providing all the necessities and then some. On the trail Ringo was an amazing guide, providing encouragement and insight at every step. I ended the trip due to a bad bought of altitude sickness and struggled to breathe, and Ringo and the entire team went above and beyond to help me get to safety. Ringo even came and visited me once I got back to Moshi to make sure I was okay, and made sure I was able to get home safely. This is a genuinely great organisation with a fantastic team. Happy to recommend this group to anyone, Tanzania Joy is a very professional

    Wonderfull time on Kili!
The trekking part for the first 4 days are not so hard, day 5 is. You face muscle pain, fatigue, cold and darkness. My guide Joseph got me through and made this one of the most amazing things I have ever done. During the trip he and his team took great care of me. They were kind, friendly, funny, supportive and always in a good mood. Food was excellent too!

    Amazing
I had an absolutely amazing experience climbing Kilimanjaro with Patrick and the team. Extremely knowledgeable and professional guides who could tell us all about the geography, geology and history of the country and Kilimanjaro region. Jeremiah was our team chef who cooked wonderful food throughout. With their expertise me and my friend managed to summit and more importantly come back down safely. If you want to climb Kilimanjaro this is the team for you.

Trekking to Uhuru Peak via Marangu Route.
My team were 6-persons who had experience in doing the climbing with them, it was good. Assistance guides was controlling his paths for us to follow. The Real Pole-Pole was happening for our team to do. This strategy could be the Winner Strategy for us to reach the Summit of Uhuru Peak. The most important for us was during our trek toward Summit, each ones of us did not carry any Day-pack, instead was assisted by assistance guide n portals. Even though no Day-pack, we felt so hard for us to move up n up. Only Patient that gave us the strength to move forward step-by-step. This trip was the first times for us to visit Africa and Foods was really Challenging for us. We have rice every day back home, like wise, For lunch, we had only Lunch Box so little Carbohydrate Loading as we used to have n dinner serves with soup n little protein n little Carbohydrate. The supporting team that was given by Tanzania Joy Tours for our team (6-persons) consisted of: 1-Guide; 2-Assistance Guide, 1-Chef n 22-Porters. We were wondering why so many supporting teams to join our trip. We had different experience with our trips in Nepal whereas every huts owned by a family who provide their services to serve breakfast or lunch or dinner. Anyway, Over all, we were satisfied with the assistance given by Tanzania Joy Tour - Mr. Emmanuel. Big Thank you. Regards///Simba as a Babu.

Great experience - value for money
Great experience! I decided to do the Lemosho route to minimize the risk of Altitude Sickness. The leading guide Patrick and his ‘dream team’ were fantastic. They’re supportive, experienced, and know how to maintain a positive vibe. Jeremia’s food was excellent. Patrick’s guidance and planning were relaxed but above all professional. As was the rest of the team. I absolutely recommend them.

It was an amazing trip because of travel agent Emanuel and the guide/driver Praygod. It was a smooth trip without any inconvenience or problems. Mr. Praygod was excellent, trust worthy and became a family member. We will highly recommend him for everything. He got lots of patience to show around and never get tired. Keep up the good work. It was a one kind of experience. Thank you

Amazing experience and incredible guide team. Myself and two friends (in our 30’s) hiked the Marangu route. We summited in 3.5 days and descended in 1.5 days. Overall the trip was perfectly planned by Joy Tours. They handled all the logistics you could think of and want; airport pickup, hotel, transportation, permits, camp, food, water, etc.

Kelvin (chief guide) and team made us feel like family throughout the entire experience. Shout out to Living (our waiter) and mama (our cook)! Highly recommend this company if you are considering hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro.

This is not my first rodeo when it comes to tour companies, but the experience I had with Tanzania Joy Tours will be hard to beat. When I arrived at JRO airport Praygod picked me up and took me to my hotel, Kelvin my guide was already there waiting for me. Kelvin went over the briefing for the start of the climb and checked my gear and we were good to go. The next day the team picked me up promptly at 0830 in one of their vans, Joseph was the driver and I met Adam my personal chef. We drove to the Marangu gate and then met my 4 porters, Michael, Herman, Paulo, and Peter. Michael was my personal waiter and in charge of waking me up, serving my food, and a lot of other duties. We get started and headed up to Mandara hut and arrive there with no issues, Kelvin was so informative about local flora and fauna, and the monkeys I had seen along the way. Kelvin suggests that I should try the 5 day route, rather than the 6 day since I was doing so well. Both Kelvin and I agree that we would decide on the third day in the morning so we know how I am acting at higher elevation. 2nd day- was up to Horombo hut and that went by without a hitch, the whole time during this the food had been amazing. Day 3/4 summit day- we hiked from Horombo hut to Kibo hut(base camp) I have a snack and then a nap waking up again at 6p for dinner and then another nap until 11pm with us leaving for the summit at 12pm. Kelvin was very encouraging during this whole time. Kibo hut to Gilman’s point was very difficult with multiple switch backs. I then found out from kelvin that it will be flat and gradual up hill all the way to Stella point and to Uhuru (the summit). I was having difficulty with breathing at this point and kelvin had nothing but encouraging words for me, so I developed a style of 20 steps and a 10 second break. At 0705 we were at the summit and it was amazing, I took a few pictures and back down I went. I decided to walk fast back down and fell down and ended up hurting my back. I got to Gilman’s point and that’s were the fun began, a combination of hurt back, lack of sleep, exposure to the sun, and dehydration lead me to take about 5 hours what should be done in 2. Kelvin was with me the whole way words of encouragement. I finally manage to get back to Kibo hut, and took a nap to see how I felt after. Michael wakes me up from my nap and I am feeling somewhat better, but still not 100%. Kelvin and I make it to Horombo hut and I’m exhausted, I have a quick tea and then dinner and go to sleep for the night. Day 5- I wake up ready to go, but I could tell my body was not going to cooperate today. I was presented with a congratulatory dance from my whole team, and then I said a few words and gave each member an envelope with their tips (it is customary and expected to tip). After the ceremony We walked from Horombo hut to Mandara hut with virtually no issues (I can feel my quads and calves seizing up). Kelvin fills up my water bottle and Camelbak and we are on our way, I get up from a seated position and can barely do that. Kelvin is so encouraging, he just says pole pole ( slowly, slowly) like he has done the whole time. We took almost 3 1/2 hours what most people did in 2 1/2 hours, nothing on me wanted to move. I was so happy when we finished I almost cried.
long story short, if you want a company that cares about its clients, well Tanzania Joy Tours is the one for you. The whole team will give it 110% just to make your trip perfect. Ask for the whole team by name, Kelvin, Adam, Peter, Paulo, Michael, and Herman
