What is Travelers’ Choice?
Tripadvisor gives a Travelers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travelers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.
The Machame route, also known as the "Whiskey" route, is the most popular route on Kilimanjaro. Machame’s draw is in its scenic beauty. However, the trail is considered difficult, steep and challenging, particularly due to its shorter itinerary. Therefore this route is better suited for more adventurous folks or those with some high altitude, hiking or backpacking experience.

          Awesome trip
This was a great safari. Our guide was so helpful and took us to see the animals we wanted to see. We were able to see so many up close. Lunch was great and the monkeys at the lunch site were fun to see.

          Emazing trip
Great tour! Very scenic walk up to the waterfall. The show around the coffee production, was very funny. A reminder of how much you are a tourist up here in this very beautiful surroundings though. The driver and guide Hudaifa was a very good companion. His driving was excellent, and the communication with him was easy, informative and funny.

          Materuni Waterfalls and coffee tour
We enjoyed the waterfall. We had a really good guide. Coffee tour was informative. We decided not to go to the Hot springs because our guide told us that it is more like a big swimming area with warm water, not my idea of the hot springs. It would also add 3 to 4 hour ride to the trip. If you have a day, plan only for the falls and you can spend more time there and do it at a leisurely pace.

Safari Soles Tours - A 5 star experience
We booked our safari directly with this company after undertaking some extensive research into providers in Tanzania. Not an easy task with what seems to be hundreds of organisations offering very similar itineraries. What stood out for us after selecting three to provide quotes was Safari Soles seemingly understanding our desire to stay at particular lodges and tented camps. Their online reviews were all 4 or 5 star. They responded very quickly (and as it turned out accurately) to each and every query we had before and after finalising our trip. We must thank Zurria and Furhani who work in the office for their outstanding customer service, this gave us confidence in choosing Safari Soles. We were met at Kilimanjaro Airport by a smiling Frank, who welcomed us to Tanzania and proceeded to give us a tour of the city of Arusha. The cultural centre was a surprise with some amazing paintings to local culture and some astonishing wood working. Onto the Tanzanite museum where we has a lesson in mining Tanzanite and a display of several stones for sale. Fortunately, I’d left my wallet at home, this is expensive stuff. A visit to the Masai Market is best described as an experience. Overnight at the Arusha Farm House was a perfect stop over before the main event. We were picked up in the morning Estomih, our Safari Soles Tours, safari guide in the ubiquitous Toyota Land Cruiser. Two of us in the back plenty of room, we were provided with all the appropriate equipment and with two of us we had plenty of room to spread out. Binoculars provided, and a fridge containing water, beer, wine and soft drinks. We had purchased some snacks, biscuits, crisps etc. in Arusha on the ways to our first national park – Tarangire. Tarangire National Park. Here we saw lion, elephants, lesser and greater Kudu, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk and a plethora of bird life. Estomih was the perfect host with impressive knowledge and ability to spot wildlife in between dispersed with some lovely general conversation. Overnight we stayed on the shores of Lake Burunge, in the Lake Burunge Tented Lodge. Perhaps one of the biggest surprises was lunch, provided with a hot meal whilst many operators seemed to provide a cold lunch box. Our food was fantastic and each day we had a hot meal and was varied each day. Lake Manyara National Park We were amazed how thick the forest was here, monkeys galore especially baboon troops of 30 or more in each troop. Elephants again, water buffalo, giraffes, crocodiles. This place is famous for its tree climbing lions, unfortunately they couldn’t be found on our visit. Estomih again provided us with his exceptional knowledge of the animals in the park and wonderful conversation. Overnight we stayed Kirurumu Manyara Lodge. High above the great rift valley we were afforded some astonishing views down to the lake and the valley below. The food here was delicious to say the least. A very comfortable tented lodge and one we would recommend. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Central Serengeti National Park Vast plains greet you as you enter this park with occasional piles of rock straight out of the lion king. We saw lions with a kill, cheetahs with 1 year old cubs, cheetahs (three brothers) with a kill about 20 minutes old, several species of birds, elephants, giraffes, hippos, water buffalo and what seemed gazillions of wildebeest. Just too many animals to mention ably guided around the park by Estomih. Staying overnight at the Hippo Trails Camp, situated deep within the Central Serengeti National Park. Whilst eating dinner we could feel the male lion brushing past the tent within six inches of our backs. We could here the wild animals in and around the camp as we fell asleep. In the morning going off to see the Hippos at the hippo pool the two male lions were still very close to the camp. Southern Serengeti We spent two days in the Southern Serengeti National Park staying in the Sero Tented Camp. One of our favourite places, the food was excellent, tents comfortable and friendly staff who couldn’t do enough to ensure our stay was comfortable. Countless lions, cheetahs, a leopard, and serval . Giraffes, elephants, and birds galore. On the second morning we found a large pride of lions on the move through the bush, the females clearly looking for the opportunity for a kill, with the cubs climbing and playing on a fallen tree, just so natural. Again, we were so well guided by Estomih who continued to excel with his knowledge, tracking abilities and humour. Ngorongoro Crater. Having stayed overnight at the Marera Valley Lodge in some comfort after three nights in tented camps was very welcome, although we had to leave at about 5:30am to visit the amazing Ngorongoro Crater. The weather was against us as it rained most of the day, however this didn’t put us off, visiting the crater is a must with its unique environment. Plenty of elephants, flamingos, lions…. And in the distance three Rhino. Then a long drive back to stay the final two nights at the Arusha Farm House. Here we had to say good-bye to our guide Estomih and I hope we leave as friends. His ability to communicate, track animals, provide detailed information as well as having a great sense of humour made the trip extra special. Thank you so much Estomih, you are a credit to Safari Soles Tours and went a long way to making our trip forever memorable. Foothills of Kilimanjaro For our final full day we were met by Baltazary to take a short hike in the foothills to a waterfall. Once again the guide was careful and patient whilst on the hike to the very picturesque Materuni Waterfalls. It is a little slippery so we were glad to have brought Saturday shoes, on the way back we stopped for lunch and a demonstration of growing coffee. In conclusion, our review is very much about what we did on our safari. Hundreds of companies could offer the same or similar, however what stood out for us was the company and their employees. Great organisational skills, faultless delivery, outstanding customer service, and employees who turn out to be friends. We have to mention Estomih again, he really made this adventure for us, thank you so much. To Raphael (Manager Arusha Office) and to Bryson (Owner) congratulations on running a superb organisation and making our trip so memorable.

We enjoyed the trip so much with everything planned and ran smoothly. Our guide Johnathan is professional in explaining the wildlife and natural environment. And most importantly, finding us the brightest camera angle!

          Incredible Experience
Baltazary was an amazing guide. We got to the waterfall at the perfect time and had the experience all to ourselves. The coffee tour was also very personal and an incredible experience. He also got us some passion fruit and sugar cane along the way. We had an incredible time.

          Wonderful day tour with Baltazary!
We had a wonderful day from start to finish with Baltazary! We did Materuni falls, coffee tour and Chemka Hot Springs and each stop was even better than we expected and he was an incredible host who went out of his way to explain plants, animals, history and local culture. I cannot recommend him enough!

          A once-in-a-life-time journey!
This is definitely a once-in-a-life-time tour! This is my first time of safari. Me and my friend spent a lovely 5-day journey with amazing guide Innocent. During a week of moist weather, he drove very carefully (which I valued the most), and I am very proud he was always so kind and willing to help others. He took very good care of the jeep, so that every day we could enjoy a pleasant environment. Of course we witnessed a variety of animals and collected the Big 5 very quickly, even on the second day of our trip! I would also like to express my gratitude to staff Zuria. She has been very helpful from the very beginning to the end. She kindly answered all our requests during preparation and swiftly helped us do the re-schedule of balloon safari in the middle of our trip. I wish I could have more chances to do safari again in future, with Safari Soles Tours!

One of the best tours of Tanzania!
We had a great tour with the guide Enock who was really able to tell us a lot about the culture of Tanzania. The waterfall and hot springs were incredibly beautiful. We can really recommend the tour and hope you are lucky enough to have Enock as your guide.

          An incredible experience!
OMG … what an incredible experience! We had been contemplating a Tanzanian safari for about a year. About four months before our planned trip we started contacting Tanzanian tour companies regarding packages. Safari Soles was the best overall and comprehensive response we received. Douglas, our tour planner, was amazing and easy to work with to plan the perfect tour package. When we arrived at Kilimanjaro Airport, our hotel transfer driver was waiting for us. Before taking us to the airport, he took us to a local shopping mall to stock-up on some snacks for the upcoming week and to get some shillings from an ATM. The next day our safari guide for the week, Francis, arrived promptly at 8:00 at the hotel to begin our adventure. Francis was simply incredible. Extremely professional, considerate, and knowledgeable. While we hope all of Safari Soles’ guides are of equal caliber, we can’t imagine anybody better than Francis. Throughout the week, Francis guided us 9n an amazing adventure through Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, and throughout the Serengeti. We strives to ensure that we experience not only all of the Big Five, but also the Ugly Five, and all of the other animals populating Tanzania. We also visited a Masai Boma. The night time game drive at Lake Manyara was amazing, particularly to see the hippos out of the water and just to hear the sounds the wildlife make at night. Every morning Francis ensured that the Land Cruiser was cleaned, outside and inside. Daily lunches were amazing, typically comprising a Tanzanian curry as well as some fruit and a modest dessert. (Francis doubled as an amazing waiter too.). We intentionally planned our trip for January-February as it is the calving season. Accordingly, we saw elephants that were less than one month old as well as baby everything else! Safari Soles selected some incredible properties for our nightly lodging. They also offer clients the opportunity to upgrade (or downgrade) depending on preferences. The “camps” in the Serengeti ranged from a no-frills basic tented migration camp to a luxury tented camp with a soaking tub in our bedroom. Dinners at all of the camps were incredible. Following our five day safari, Safari Soles planned a hike in the Kilimanjaro foothills to a waterfall. At the end of the hike, we had lunch at a local coffee plantation, followed by a swim at a local “hot spring.” (The water was more temperate than hot but it was refreshing.) After the activities on the mainland, we travelled to Zanzibar for several days of relaxation, relaxation that was well needed. Safari Soles also handled our travel requirements in Zanzibar, from the airport pick-up, a trip to Prison Island for see the giant tortoises, our lodging, a return to Stone Town on our last day or a walking tour of the City, and return to the airport. (If you’re a Queen fan, Freddy’s boyhood home and museum are nearby.) For practical purposes, the Land Cruisers can carry six clients. Although we did see some packed with seven. Given that you’re spending about 8 hours in the truck, plan for no ore than four passengers per truck. (We were three and comfortable. Four would have been reasonable. More than four, a nightmare.). We comfortable clothes. Choose practical over cute. While we visited in February (Tanzanian summer), it was still chilly in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater at an elevation of about 6,000 feet. So pack a sweatshirt. We hope to plan another Safari … likely at a different time of year to experience a different segment of the Great Migration. When we do, we will definitely be booking with Safari Soles, and requesting Francis as our guide! As an aside, while one could book their tour through one of the high-end tour companies, the Land Cruisers really “democratize” the experience. Regardless which company organizes the tour, all of the driver-guides communicate via radio on animal sightings to ensure that clients have a highest potential for spotting all of the animals. With a little help from our friends, in the Ngorongoro Crater we spotted four of the craters 28 rhinos. Amazing. Call or e-mail Safari Soles, ask for Douglas and plan a Safari of a lifetime.

          Amazing!
A friend and I had Baltazary as our tour guide and he made our experience amazing! He was so lovely, helpful and funny and provided us with refreshments and great conversation. He was also very knowledgeable about the local area and answered any questions we had. The waterfall was so beautiful, we went early in the morning and had a refreshing dip. The coffee experience is a must do here! The people were singing and dancing as we made the coffee - it was so fun. And to finish it off the hot springs was the perfect environment to relax after lunch. Definitely would recommend doing this tour and would recommend Baltazary!!! Thank you very much!

A lovely day touring with Safari Soles
Had a really lovely hike with Baltazar up to Materuni waterfall, followed by a delicious lunch after a great freshly dehusked, roasted, ground, and brewed coffee. Can’t get more local and fresher than that. After lunch we went to Kikuletwa/Chemka springs that is a blue-watered oasis in the savannah. My first time and first day in Tanzania did not disappoint!

          amazing!!!
I had an absolutely wonderful day trip! My guide, Enock, was punctual, patient, professional, and incredibly kind. He offered to carry my bag, take great photos, and ensured I had the best experience possible. With him, I learned so much about Tanzania throughout the day. The hike to the waterfalls was amazing and offered great views! The coffee-making experience was not only informative but also interactive and engaging! The visit to the chemka hot springs was the perfect way to end the day with its crystal blue water! A huge thank you for an unforgettable and perfectly planned day!

Our experience was unforgettable. From the very first email exchange with Happiness George who thoughtfully and effectively planned our two day tour and to the actual game drive with Japhet, our perfect guide, who was excellent in both driving through the Ngorongoro off-roads and spotting the animals along the way, Safari Soles made everything to provide us with truly, genuinely customer oriented service. Please do not hesitate in choosing this company, they will take a good care of you!

Safari Soles was recommended by friend and we (family with kids aged 15 and 17) are really happy that we organised our Kilimanjaro und Safari trip with them.

We booked a 7d Kilimanjaro hike (Machame route) and a 7d safari and it was a terrific experience. Our contact was Bryson and he was great and speedy at answering any of our questions. He organised every think for us, starting with picking up at the airport and transfer to the hotel, all accommodation bookings, the whole Kilimanjaro hiking week, the “rest day”, the safari week and the transfer to the airport at the end. He organised nearly everything and it all worked out. Thank you so much, Bryson, for this absolute great organisation!

Kilimanjaro - Bryson met us on the arrival day with our hiking guide William. William was very patient and encouraging with us. Any questions or concerns we had he answered. William picked us up at the hotel in the morning and we went to a meeting point where we met the rest of the teams (Zacharia - assistant guide, chief and porters). Together we drove to the Machame Gate where the hike started. The hike is demanding (physically and mentally) and William and Zacharia made it easier and an enjoyable experience by keeping us laughing and always checking how we’re doing health wise. Our group of porters and the chief were awesome as well. They were always there to help. A highlight was also the meals. We never expected to eat so delicious on the hike but what the chef cooked on his little stove was incredible. Reaching the top was awesome and we are very thankful to William and Zacharia for the support. We will never forget this hike!

We did the 7 day Machame route in December this year and absolutely loved it! We had a wonderful accomodation prior to the trip and safari soles was really flexible as a canceled flight had us needing to push back the start of the trip last minute.

The trip itself checks all the boxes you're looking for prior to booking. We felt safe at all times (oxygen levels checked, flexibility in light of altitude sickness) and couldn't praise William / Emanuel & team more for how they managed the trip and helped us summit. We generally had three excellent hot meals a day, and the porters made us feel more than welcome at all times. The hike is tough, but doable for all fitness levels.

A big thank you to the safari soles team and William & his team. We couldn't be more pleased with this experience - Hakuna Matata from the Mzungos!

I had a great and successful hike to the Uhuru summit! I was lucky to have good weather and to acclimatize well, so I enjoyed the 6 day hike with my team from Safari Soles. The guide took good care of me and motivated me when it got difficult on the last day to the summit. The cook and the waiter also were very attentive and the food was nutritious and tasty (lots of fruits, vegetables, hot soups) and I actually had a lot of appetite from the effort. They made my hike up the mountain pleasant, so I recommend them for a good experience.

We had the 7 day trek to uhuru peak. Guided by an expert team of 2 guides, 7 porters and a cook. Guides spoke English well and knew their trade. They were very helpful and alert for signs of altitude sickness. They changed the itinerary to our needs. Also freshly made food all the way including delicious chicken chapatis.

Highly recommended! Thanks to gasto, Sam and the team.
