Overview

This tour from Reykjavik covers the highlights of Iceland’s south coast in a single day. Travel by minibus to the waterfalls of Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss, the black-sand beach of Reynisfjarna, and the Solheimajokull Glacier, where you’ll walk right up to touch the ice. Learn about the area’s unique geology and culture from your guide along the way, and enjoy convenient hotel pickup and drop-off for a hassle-free day.

Highlights
  • Enjoy convenient hotel pickup and drop-off
  • Learn about lesser-known history and culture from your guide
  • Travel by minibus and leave navigation to someone else
  • Take a guided walk to the edge of a glacier
What to Expect
Your tour begins with a morning pickup in a minibus from your Reykjavik hotel. Along the way, your guide introduces you to the geology, history, and folklore of the small but fascinating country of Iceland.

Stop at the thundering waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss and, on a clear day, see the famed Eyjafjallajokull volcano, which caused air-travel havoc when it erupted in 2010. The next stop is Reynisfjara to see a black-sand beach, as well as surrounding basalt columns and towering sea stacks. In summer, look out for puffins and other seabirds, and take a lunch break here or in the neighboring village of Vík (own expense).

Next, head for Solheimajokull glacier, one of the outlet tongues of the icecap Myrdalsjokull. Walk right up to the glacier’s edge and touch the ice. With luck, you might even find an ice cave.

Your tour concludes with drop-off back at your hotel

We booked the southern coast minibus tour with GeoIceland and thoroughly enjoyed it. We passed numerous geothermal areas, waterfalls and beautifully green mountains and fields. Lovely rock formations and sea birds including puffins. The guide/driver was very pleasant and knowledgeable. I would book with GeoIceland...More

A wonderful tour with Berglind. The tour is well planned and scheduled, this company really lives up its slogan ”we’re not in a hurry”. The guide told us so much about Iceland while driving. Because the weather was so good, Berglind made an extra stop...More

I asked directly, and was told that they run pretty much all weather's. We went in February, and there was absolutely torrential rain for part, strong winds, and glorious sunshine....although obviously not at the same time!

You should have waterproof clothes for Iceland, period, and definitely if you want to walk up to the waterfalls. We had rain jackets and rain pants, and they served us well in Iceland, not just on the South Coast, but... More

The windows on our GeoIceland bus most certainly were NOT blacked out -- seeing the sights along the way was very important. As for the comfort of the buses, we found all of the tour buses used in Iceland to be very... More
