During this hot air balloon ride from Phoenix, take to the air for the best vantage point of the area. And, as a bonus, see the sunrise, too. After your flight, reminisce about the beauty of the Sonoran Desert over a Champagne breakfast.

I had a fantastic time. It was amazing!!! Might do it sometime again. They were very acceptable to my plane delayed & having to change my flight with them. Pete was great at telling us about how the balloons work & how high we were. Very Friendly & interesting to talk with

    Beautiful night
We had a great experience with Jon. He was professional and fun telling corny jokes. That was a better landing than any airplane ride. Gorgeous views and a champagne toast at the end. We loved it!!

Checking off a bucket list item!
At the end of a business trip to Phoenix we stayed an extra day to try the hot air balloon ride. They were well organized and efficient. We lucked out with the best fellow passengers. Jeff was our pilot. The weather was perfect fortunately and we enjoyed a long ride. We touched down right before the sunset and enjoyed a champagne toast. I would do it again.

    Worth the waiting
The ride was a lot of fun! There was a lot of waiting before going up (drive to the site and set up), but the ride outweighed the weighting!

    Beautiful sunset
Most sunsets are beautiful, but how about a sunset from the air in a hot air balloon. Bucket list checked. Pilot Patrick and his crew were awesome.

    Beautiful Ride!
We were all signed up for the sunset ride, however it got canceled due to the crazy January weather. (GOOD, I would rather be safe than dead) The team was super communicative between the emails, calls and texts they helped us select another slot. However they had so many cancelations due to weather from previous days I got a bit nervous about waiting so we picked to do the next day’s sunrise due to our limited availability. It was a smooth beautiful ride. We were in the air a little over an hour and you are just in awe of how amazing Arizona is. Once you land you are given some OJ/Champagne/Mimosa (depending on your preference) Each “bucket” holds 16 people which is broken down into 4 bins of 4 people each, and as a bigger guy I can say is not ideal. Every time the other couple in my bin would shift to swap positions you were hit with their bags or getting stepped on with their muddy boots/shoes. I pretty much had to stay in one spot and only leaned forward/backward while my used up the rest of the space available. Also, there is no door to the bucket… you have to climb into it, they do have a step ladder to help however it doesn’t get you high enough to get out or in without some agility. I would imagine if I was a little larger and/or less agile I might not have flown. Would I do it again = MAYBE… I would for sure think about doing it again in another location (they have like 4 other cities they run balloons) Would I do it again in Phoenix, Arizona = Nope, not unless I was going to be with someone else who’d never been or was scared. All that said... The logistics are a bit strange to me. We had to arrive at their office at 615 but we didn't get into the vans to leave until 635. Once we left the office we drove 10-15 minutes to a site to test the winds (very important but WE aren't needed for that) Then we get to the site where we all stand around and wait/watch them unload the baskets and balloons and then they setup the balloons... Sunrise was around 720 however we are still on the ground until a little after 8am. We landed around 9am and they take about 30ish minutes to tear back down and drive back so expect to return around 10am. With a cost of 250.00 a person and a 615 start time I had expected to be in the air when the sun actually was coming up, and a longer flight with much less standing around doing nothing.

    Wonderful💝
It was wonderful. I just loved it and the views from up above of the surrounding area just wow. Our balloonist, Kyle, was great and filled with lots of information that he shared with our group regarding our flight views, history, and jokes. Then, the champagne 🍾 toast at the end was just the perfect ending to a lovely flight.

    Great experience
We did the Sunset flight on January 4, 2023. It was an amazing experience start to finish with Jon and his crew. We felt safe and informed and really enjoyed it. The entire crew works physically very hard to provide this experience. I would highly recommend adding this your to do list.

    Great experience!
We had a wonderful time with our pilot, Morgan! He was great at answering questions and keeping us informed the entire time. We were lucky to have amazing weather and a beautiful sunset (early January). I never got bored during the flight because there was always something new to see and the entire ride was very peaceful. It was a great way to ring in the new year and my 30th bday!

May you fly so high and so well that God joins you laughter
Bucket list - check. Our Lyft ride to Rainbow Ryders was hilarious - the moment we got into the car our driver started cracking up - he said you guys are crazy trying to do this , he said if God gave me gills i would swim , if God gave me wings I would fly but since he didn’t we are land beings. The whole ride was full of funny jokes around our decision to do this - 5 stars for his sense of humor. Lol it did finally put a bit of a doubt in my head. However in the end this balloon ride did feel like God gave us wings! The experience was truly as the balloonist prayer goes “May the winds welcome you with softness.May the sun bless you with its warm hands. May you fly so high and so well that God joins you in laughter And sets you gently back into the loving arms of Mother Earth”. You will hear your pilot recite this at the end. Our pilot was Jesse cool as a cat and super experienced. We had the smoothest landing and while we were in the air it was heavenly. The Rainbow Ryder set up , communication, all the ops and ground crew were great. You felt from the get go that you dealing with pros. It was amazing to see so many people doing this that day young and old. Am glad we did it and that too in the Valley of Sun. Let’s hope they get the govt support to keep doing this here. 5 stars. Go try it / you will love it.

Rainbow Ryders were awesome and we loved our Hot Air Balloon Sunset Ride.
Great company to work with. Easy online confirmation and organized check in. Jon was our pilot and he was the best. Great sense of humor and extremely personable. I was happy to have a few layers of clothing as it did get cooler towards the end of our ride. We had celebratory champagne (water and juice also provided) after our fun adventure.

Rainbow Riders provided the exact experience I was hoping for. Our pilot, Al, was friendly and had a great sense of humor. After checking in at the office, you ride for about 20 minutes to the launch site. It's another 15 minutes or so for the crew to inflate the balloon and go over basic safety instructions. We then sailed over the beautiful desert landscape for about 60 minutes. It was daylight by the time we got up into the air, but the sun was still rising so we were able to experience the sunrise from the air. Multiple people commented on how tranquil they felt as we floated through the air. Throughout the ride, the pilot lifted and lowered the balloon intermittently so we could both admire the landscape but also scour the land below for wildlife. We had a smooth landing where the crew met us and packed up the equipment. We then toasted with mimosas and headed back to the office where there was a basic breakfast of bagels and muffins awaiting us.

A couple of things to note to ensure the experience is enjoyable -- although they provide a stepstool to help people get in and out of the basket, you do still need to be limber enough to climb in and out of it. Also, if you are riding during the winter, I recommend dressing in layers. It's definitely cold in the morning but gradually warms up as the morning progresses.

A must-do on any visit to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area.

Thanks for taking the time to write us a review. We pride ourselves in providing our flyers with the most exceptional experience possible for a balloon ride. In the winter, it can definitely be chilly in the early morning hours and we absolutely recommend bringing a good jacket! Balloon rides are truly an amazing activity to do at least once, especially in Phoenix, with its beautiful desert terrain, wildlife, and skyline! We’re glad that you got to experience your flight with Al - who is an amazing pilot! We hope that you had a fun, yet calming and safe flight with Al and that you met some fun and interesting people along the way. Thank you for choosing to fly with us, we hope to see you again!

Here’s the positive – you are flying more than 5000 feet in the air above beautiful desert and you always felt safe and things ran smoothly and professionally

Negative-really annoyed by how they handle payments. They take your credit card so they guarantee that you will pay but they don’t charge you until after the trip when the pilot actually takes your credit card and stands over you while he asks you for a tip. We had A group of four which cost us $800 which is the high-end of balloon rides in the area and when the tip amount comes up the suggested tip is 15 to 20% which is around $150. In my opinion this is ridiculous amount of money after you’ve already spent nearly $1000 on the ride itself. When I did put in a much more modest tip the pilot didn’t even say thank you and you can tell he was annoyed. In my opinion this is very unprofessional and puts the customer in a very awkward position. This should be changed at the corporate level

In addition our pilot Al who I will say again was extremely competent and always made us feel safe was not particularly informative in explaining what was going on. I mean there is so much to learn about this amazing experience and you drive a total of 45 minutes in the car about 20 minutes each way to the site. There should be some informative orientation or explanation as to what is about to happen and how things work. He was willing to answer questions when people asked but it should be much more official in how the information is given. Once again this may not be a short coming of our pilot and may just be a corporate philosophy which in my opinion should be changed

Thank you for both the positive and negative feed back. We love to improve as a company and we couldn’t do that with out hearing the pros and cons from our passengers. I am pleased to know that Al was great with making sure that his passengers are safe during their flight. It brings comfort to know that you are in great hands. As for payment, we do ask to have a card on file to guarantee the reservation. Payment is due after the flight because we are such a weather-dependent business, causing flights to be cancelled entirely due to weather. We have made the decision to not charge any deposit so in the event that happens, you do not need to wait for a refund. Tips are not required, but are always appreciated when given to our pilots and hard-working crew. Our payment system automatically has the 15%-20% tip calculator and gives an option to customize your tip, if you choose to leave one. We will be sure to let our pilots know to be more informative so our passengers are aware of what to expect during their excursion. Thank you for flying with Rainbow Ryders and we appreciate your feed back!

My husband and I enjoyed the ride. We stayed in a hotel in Scottsdale and the crew picked us up at our hotel. The crew were all professional, friendly, and made us feel safe. The team was able to get us in the air quickly and safely to watch the sunrise. Our pilot Jeff did an excellent job! We had a smooth takeoff and landing. He answered questions and pointed out different places while in the air. Our ride was about an hour (We thought this was enough time).
Things to know:
1. Your start time will depend on sunrise, so it will be later or earlier depending on when you book your trip.
2. It was in the 40’s (Fahrenheit) during our ride. While the heat from the hot air balloon kept us warm, I was happy I brought gloves and a hat to stay warm.
3. Remember your credit card to make the final payment.
4. Our group ride had about 12 people including the pilot. We felt like we all had plenty of room and enough space. There was a divider in the basket to separate the pilot and one in the middle of the basket.

We appreciate you taking the time to write us a review. Our pilots and their crew do their best to give you nothing less than a great time with us! Jeff is a great pilot and we’re happy that you got to experience a flight with him. The information you listed under “things to know” are spot on and we appreciate you informing possible future flyers on what to expect, however, you’re more than welcome to bring cash instead of a credit card for a final payment if it’s of more convenience to you! Thanks for flying with us and we truly hope to fly with you again!

We selected Rainbow Ryders for our hot air balloon experience and they did not disappoint! Upon arrival our check in process was smooth, quick and only had to wait about 10 minutes before getting into our shuttle. Once in the shuttle it was about 10-15 minute drive to the launch site and our driver explained things along the way while allowing us to ask any questions. At the launch site we waited in the van for a little bit (maybe a few minutes, not long at all) while the balloon and basket were unloaded. We then got off the shuttle and watched the process of preparing the balloon. This is really neat to watch everyone work together to get the balloon up and running. Once it was determined that everything was set and safe we were loaded into our basket (there was a step stool for us shorter people) and the guides offered to take our pictures from outside the basket. Our pilot/captain was Patrick and he was really awesome! He was funny, told great stories, and gave us really great information about ballooning/his experiences and the areas were were flying over. Patrick prepared us for our landing by making sure we were all hanging onto the handles since our basket would most likely tip on it's side as we land; we did tip but nothing scary or rough, we just had to lean on our travel partner or the back of the basket (this was probably the funniest part of the whole experience, tipping and landing!). After we landed we were served champagne and/or OJ while having a toast.

I have always wanted to do a hot air balloon ride and I'm so glad we went with Rainbow Ryders! They are so friendly and personable and made the experience everything I hoped it would be. I would definitely ride with them again and highly recommend them, and if you can get Patrick as your captain he's awesome!

We splurged and did a private ride, which was the way to go.
Our pilot Paul, was so engaging, knowledgable and full of passion for hot air ballooning, we couldn't of had a better pilot. His ground crew was a fantastic an ambitious young man named David, he was great! They were just so professional, personable, dedicated and really knew how to read us. I cried a few times, bc, it was just soooo beautiful.
How could there be a better way to ring in a 50th birthday than a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Sonoran Desert? We loved it, it was exhilarating, tranquil, and a lifelong memory.
The company itself is a well oiled machine, super safe procedures, covid precautions were spot on, very well organized, we knew we would be taken care of as soon as we arrived.
Lots of choices out there, but, Rainbow Riders is the best.

We booked this flight for our sons to experience the adventure of a balloon flight. We were blown away by the professionalism and experience of our Pilot Jesse Newcomer. He fielded every question my kids could throw at him. This amazing flight ended with a toast were he explained some history of balloons and the importance of the champaign toast. Before we left our pilot sent us the flight track of the flight and explained how far we went in miles and our max altitude. We will be coming back to Phoenix for this adventure again with Jesse.

Definitely a bucket list item! These flights are completely weather dependent, so don't be surprised if your trip gets cancelled the day prior. Fortunately the weather today was perfect! Our pilot, Patrick was wonderful, funny and made the experience worthwhile. Rainbow Ryders have experienced pilots and there is a reason they are the number one hot air balloon company in the SW. There was another hot air balloon company out at the same time and it seems they were having difficulty navigating their balloons. They offer snacks and beverages at the end of the trip. I would highly recommend Rainbow Ryders if you would like to book a hot air balloon ride!

A perfect morning for a sunrise balloon ride. Very professional, organized and knowledgeable employees. Equipment is in excellent condition and is on display at their facility where we started our adventure. Our pilot, Patrick Stevens, showed off his 30 years of accumulated skills in every aspect: providing details as he pitched in with the ground crew during set up, narrating interesting info about the terrain and wildlife (even a fly that looked like a bee) and the champagne toast after our superb landing. Thank you so much for giving my family the experience of a lifetime. Oh, and thank your for the balloon “kiss”. ❤️

A hot air balloon ride is on many people’s bucket list. My advice: If you are in the Phoenix area, cross this item off your list.

We reserved a spot for the Wednesday, sunrise flight but unfortunately due to inclement weather the company had to cancel the flight and we rebooked for Saturday. (Tip #1 – Make your reservation for this activity early in your Phoenix trip. This allows you an opportunity to rebook if the weather doesn’t cooperate).

The day of the excursion you meet at their office, complete your paperwork (signing the waiver), are assigned your pilot (Jeff in our case) and are transported by van to the take-off site. You observe the process of unpacking and inflating balloon & then you float on the wind currents and observe the countryside from above. (We experienced no turbulence, no shaking, just a perfectly smooth ride - and most important landing)

Jeff was a great pilot and when he saw that we wanted a selfie photo, he maneuvered the balloon so that the photo had another balloon in the background.

This the second balloon ride, I have experience, with the first being in Africa over the Serengeti Plains. I would rate Rainbow Ryders experience the superior of the two. Part of the reason is the number of balloons in the air. At one time, I counted 17 balloons in the air. This really adds to the experience and the Kodak moments.

At the end of the ride, we toasted the adventure with Champagne and/or Mimosas.

This excursion was definitely the highlight of our Phoenix trip.
