About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- LESLIE B0 contributionsAwesome active experienceMy husband and I enjoyed this tour a great deal. We’re both active paddlers around 70 years old but hadn’t tried river kayaking. It was fun and a little exciting. The hike was quite interesting - we saw petrified tree trunks, fossilized shells and dinosaur bones. The views were remarkable and the landscape eerie. This was a highlight of our trip.Written January 9, 2024
- JosephReardonMD0 contributionsFantastic guides - Make sure to book direct!Kayak Santa Cruz did a fantastic job on our kayak and hiking trip to La Leona River. Our guides Feder and Anibal were super knowledgeable. We booked through an agency but we would definitely recommend booking direct to avoid red tape.Written December 5, 2023
- Y7701NUisabelles0 contributionsAmazing! Best experience in El CalafateThis was an incredible trip! We loved kayaking down the river and walking on the amazing landscapes. It shows a different side to Patagonia and I would highly recommend to anyone visiting El Calafate. Eduardo had so much knowledge on the geography and geology of the area, the entire day was fascinating. He also spoke very good English which was fantastic for a couple with little Spanish! The trip was excellent value for money.Written November 7, 2022
- oeightonenine0 contributionsPatagonia is more than glaciers and mountains!Everything about this trip was fabulous! Eduardo never made us feel excluded despite being the only English speaking couple in the group of nine. We were picked up from the hotel in a new, comfortable van and taken to the drop-in point. We got lessons on the geology, animals, and early explorers of the area. Before getting on the river, we were given a lesson on how to operate the kayak and what to do if we capsize. We were fitted with the correct attire and given a dry bag for our clothes and food. The river moved kind of quickly, which made paddling pretty easy. There were a few rapids, but nothing to be worried about. There were two guides in the water with us and I noticed our driver spotting us from the shore in a couple of places. They even took pictures of us since we didn’t have access to our cameras while on the river! We stopped for a hike and lunch and got to see some pretty cool things and learn a little bit more about the area. We had a brief paddle to the pick-up point where a celebratory drink was waiting for us! 10/10 would do again. There’s so much more to Argentinian Patagonia than glaciers and mountains. Make sure to bring lots of sunscreen and water - there’s no shade on the river or during the hike. Also wear leggings and an athletic shirt or be comfortable undressing down to your underwear behind the van or a bush (wetsuits are tight!).Written November 5, 2022
- henry520140 contributionsBest day in El Calafate areaThat’s what My teenage boys (17) said when we finished a full day of kayaking and exploring the surrounding areas. The river is turquoise blue and the landscape is different from anything we have seen before. The kayaking alone would have been super fun but being in the company of Eduardo, the owner of Kayak Santa Cruz, made it so much better. We joined a small group of visitors, all super nice and outgoing, got equipped and taught the basics of kayaking in the river. Off we went with Eduardo and Gisela who is also super nice. We kayaked for a couple of hours and felt safe the whole time. We then stopped on the shore to start trekking on the Los Hornos area. Eduardo knows everything from geology to history to archeology. He showed us dinosaur bones and all kinds of fossils. We had lunch at a beautiful spot and then hiked back to the kayaks for a short sail to the end of the journey. We all loved it! It was fun, active, interesting and beautiful. We highly recommend it to anyone, especially as a fun family or group activity. Thank you Eduardo for a great day!Written December 26, 2019
- JustATraveller6660 contributionsFantastic arrangement!Just agree with all other 5 star reviews. It is a very good day tour, not only kayaking on the beautiful river, but also hiking to see the fossil of dinosaur!Written December 13, 2019
- 384rolandl0 contributionsExcellent experience - and with a surprise that you cannot imagine...We had a phantastic day out! Yes, the Patagonia waters were cold, the ever-so-blissful and tough wind was there, too - and we were challenged as any beginners would be in a kayak. And it was fun. We always felt very safe. And between the two rides we went for a walk, including lunch, overlooking a most magnificient scenery and received knowledgable explanations. An in between the unexpected... I will not spoil the surprise for you, I say only this: There is only one other place that you can find it: In a museum...Written November 8, 2019
- ktrace0 contributionsExperienced Guides, Trustworthy Company! This tour was very well done. Rubin and Eduardo are competant guides. Both were passionate about the area, taking the time to point out Flora and Fauna, sharing local information. Fluent in English and Spanish, communication was easy. On our day, the wind picked up to a dangerous level. With safety first, it was decided not to go kayaking. After all the effort the guides put into our day, we were returned home and fully refunded. Very trustworthy company.Written November 7, 2019
- DanCan70 contributionsThere’s a reason these guys get 5 starsRuben, Eduardo and their team are exceptional tour guides. Not only are they safety conscious, mindful of different abilities in the group, and fluent in both English and Spanish, they are passionate about their work and it shines through in the experience they provide. The tour itself is fantastic - a nice mix of kayaking and hiking to see some amazing arid country, featuring a range of hardy plant and wildlife, as well as dinosaur bones, fossilised coral and petrified wood. Can’t recommend this highly enough.Written November 4, 2019
- Japans P0 contributionsGreat Adventure with great TeamWe went on the trip without any experiences in kayaking. Ruben and his team were very nice and friendly from the beginning. They take good care of you and make sure, you have fun and are safe the whole time. During the hiking, Ruben tells you a lot about the flora and fauna of calafate and he shows you some stunning places. It was a great experience and a lot of fun. The crew is really nice and always positive and you feel, that they like what they are doing. Nadja and JonasWritten March 9, 2019
- JenyfferY20 contributionsAmazing!Great experience! A bit hard for inexperienced people. It was my first time kayaking, and it was not easy. Trekking is very nice as well, with a stunning landsxape view. If you want a different calafate experience you should definitely do it. Guides are very nice and helpful - and they take great pictures as well.Written March 8, 2019
- Lisenpai0 contributionsGreat experienceWe had the best day ever! I can't summarize all the things seen, but they include a big big almost complete Dinosaur bone and fossilized trees chunks. The whole trip was kayak-trekking-kayak. All equipment was provided. The guide was bilingual. Both him and the girl assistant were incredibly skilled when managing the kayak, and helped everyone. This one was a great experience and I highly recommend it.Written March 2, 2019
- Silvia P0 contributionsVery Nice experience, highly recommended!!We really enjoyed our day with Kayak santa Cruz. We got the chance to see very cool places without many tourists. The stuff is very knowledgeable and professional so we could learn a lot and enjoy the activities in all safety!! A must stop if you have time in El Calafate!!!Written February 28, 2019
- MatthewKSeattle0 contributionsFantastic day with great guides and well runWhole experience excellent. Picked up on time, all equipment provided and of fine quality. Safety was job one as they guided us down the river. Saw lots of wild life. Highly recommend.Written February 1, 2019
- coreyj3400 contributionsIncredible experienceMy wife and I took this excursion last week. We went on a Sunday so it was just the two of us. This was the highlight of our trip. Everything was taken care of. Kayaking was tons of fun. It rained on us most of the day but that only added to the fun. The hike through the badlands was such a drastic contrast to the mountains and the ice it seemed surreal. Dinosaur bones! We learned more from Rueben than all of our other guides combined. Can’t say enough good things about this tour.Written January 29, 2019

A trip worth it for those who like an adventure! The team is very experienced and competent, and conducted the tour with great professionalism, always putting safety first. In our case, we had to interrupt the tour halfway due to weather conditions, and we still loved kayaking. In the end, the agency offered us a partial refund for not having completed the tour. I recommend the experience and the agency 😊

The excursion combines kayaking with trekking seeing fossils and rock paintings and native engravings.
It is bilingual and the kids are super attentive all the time.
I was afraid of being cold due to the icy water or the wind but the neoprene equipment was more than enough to fully enjoy the experience.
Clarification: neither navigation nor trekking required experience or were complicated. In our case (I went with my 16-year-old son) it was the first time we kayaked and we thoroughly enjoyed it
I RECOMMEND IT 100%

Absolutely fantastic day! We were a small group of 4 which made it feel like a very intimate, personal trip. Our guides, Eduardo, Nadia and Sebastian were so knowledgeable and informative. We learnt a lot about the history of the area, the geology of the landscape and about the local wildlife. The kayaking was good fun and it was incredible to take in the landscape from the river. The hike was fascinating - a landscape like nothing we've ever seen before, and we were amazed to see petrified trees and dinosaur fossils. An all round exceptional day out!
Highly recommend this company and this trip! Thank you Eduardo, Nadia and Sebastian!

What a great day kayaking the river, hiking such interesting geology then kayaking again. Our guides were so friendly, knowledgeable and skilled, I felt very safe and enjoyed the whole experience. Advice: was very windy - bring a neck gaiter to hold on to your hat and expect to get wet.

Great experience, it was just my friend and me and the guide which made it really relaxing. Guide knew a lot of info as about environment, plants, history in the region and so on.. kayaking is quite simple and easy but we made 2 stops on the way for a hike which stretched the day. Recommend doing it when its sunny ofcourse!
Only comment is its quite expensive but hey thats Argentina for you these days.

I would like to leave my kindest thanks to the guide Frederick and the boys!!! Together with my partner we went for a kayak activity, but this exceeded our expectations. The guide made every effort to explain to us everything we were seeing, both in the river and on the walk. He took the time to answer questions and showed a lot of kindness, something you don't see a lot. We feel very safe at all times. The 2nd guide showed a very pleasant and energetic spirit!!! And the driver always respecting all times, speeds and viewpoints!!
An unforgettable experience, thank you very much, we will return with you if we pass through Calafate again.

Great experience in all of its parts! Besides the kayak experience which is by itself worth the cost, the guides are super prepared with all sorts of facts and information about the area’s flora, fauna, history and tradition. The hike in between is an open air museum visit and has been such a pleasant surprise. The staff is amazing and super friendly, can definitely recommend! Also pick up and drop off service at your place/hostel works smoothly. Thanks Eduardo, Sebastian y Martin!

It was an incredible experience! The guides were super fun and helpful. Navigation is a really fun way to get around La Leona and the mini trekking was full of knowledge. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to escape the conventional and basic in El Calafate

Amazing excursion. The activity lasts all day and can be conveniently achieved by combining kayaking and trekking. It was amazing to find cougar prints, marine debris, volcanic lava, a petrified tree trunk and even fossilized dinosaur bones. The Guide accompanied with knowledge of the area, its natural environment and its history, in a super pleasant way and with support throughout the activity which generated security for me at all times. Excellent opportunity to get into nature in good hands and with good equipment to not be cold. Super recommended and fun. Thank you so much!
