- Q6342RHsteveh0 contributionsTerrible. 5 hours of hell for 20 minutes with penguins and 10 minutes looking at sealsTour was as follows: 75 minute drive in cramped minibus to rest area 25 minute rest room break ??? 70 minute drive on extremely rough unpaved roads to 30 min Lunch Cold empanada, greasy lamb, salad and flan - Think school dinner quality 15 minute drive to Penguin rockery 20 minutes looking at Penguins 20 minute drive to Punte Nord 10 minutes looking at Seals 150 rough drive back So if you want 5 hours in a cramped rough ride minivan and less than 60 mins activity then this might be for you. - sallyr2800 contributionsI would book againEasy meet up at top of pier. Our ship docked at 9 & we had to be onboard by 5. Unfortunately this meant our trip was shorter than they usually are. It’s a long drive (although toilet stops every 90 minutes or so) to reach either the Estanza for lunch, or the penguins. ITS WORTH IT!!!!! Then more driving to see elephant seals - and sea lions Then another 2.5 hours back to ship Christina & Tina gave us so much information (translation to English by Tina) Make no mistake, there’s a lot of driving (a lot on dusty track type roads) You get to walk in amongst the penguins & it’s really peaceful. A wonderful experience ITS WORTH ITWritten February 12, 2025
- WaheedaSK0 contributionsPantagonia TourGreat tour! Cristina was an amazing tour guide tour she spoke in Spanish. She had an interpreter who was a wonderful translator. - blueval0 contributionsGreat private tourI contacted this company directly for 9 of us from the cruise ship, everything went to plan for meeting up, nice clean van, and knowledgeable guide Nora who spoke great English, no whales about this time of year but plenty of close up penguins and elephant seals & seal lions.Written February 5, 2025
- wendywX241US0 contributionsNot worth the time this time of yearVery long travel time to not see much. Wrong time for elephant seals. We saw a few juvenile elephant seals. Then went to a small penguin colony which was lovely. Guide was good lunch was awful!Written February 2, 2025

- D7785IGsarahc0 contributionsUp close Penguin ExperienceWe got to get so close with the Penguins and see them in their natural habitat. It was amazing to see that many penguins. Nacho was a fantastic tour guide. He gave us all the background we needed on the penguins themselves and we felt prepared to interact with them and understand when to give them space. The only reason I didn’t want to give it five stars is that the description said we would have the option of choosing the museum or welsh tea service and we could decide on the day of. We learned the evening before that was not the case and the only option was the museum. Unfortunately, this was after we had went to the museum on our own.Written December 28, 2024
- CarlW9620 contributionsFun to see so many PenguinsWe took this tour while on a Viking Cruise and it was an awesome tour. The Penguins were amazing to see so many. It was easily thousands of Penguins on the beach. Many taking dips in the water to stay cool and some trying to hide in the sand as it was about 97F that day. The one thing that we were told and also signs informing us, is the Penguins have the right way to cross the path, so stop and let them through. One spot 2 Penguins were coming to the path, and a few of us stopped and were waiting for them to cross. It was funny, as they kept looking like they were waiting for us to cross, looking to the left and right. They were more polite than some humans.Written December 9, 2024
- Dave H0 contributionsGreat experience of the local wildlifeGreat day with different opportunities to see the wildlife of the area. Christian, the guide, was excellent in coordinating it all and in providing extremely detailed information about the area and its wildlife. Dolphin boat trip was really worth doing but was an extra cost on the day - need to budget for that.Written November 17, 2024
- cristiii480 contributionsAwesome experienceGot to see so many penguins and sea lions! We began with a hotel pick up and we stopped somewhere for a bathroom stop and then headed over to a beach that had sea lions that we got to get close to. Afterwards we headed to a small restaurant to have lunch before going to see the penguins!Written November 8, 2024
- christinerU6516YZ0 contributionsGreat tour, good value, and the best whale watching! This was an excellent tour, and reasonably priced. The tour guide really knew all about the area and explained everything very well. The driver also kept a keen eye for wildlife so we didn’t miss a thing. The group size was small and the van was comfortable. I was picked up exactly on time. The whale watching trip was AMAZING! Hundreds of whales and the best boat captain. He was passionate about his job and obviously loved the whales. I would highly recommend this tour.Written July 31, 2024

We had excellent communication with the tour operator, which was essential since weather impacted our itinerary. The meeting point at the end of the pier was easy to find, and we left with our guide very efficiently.
Our visit to the area was at the end of summer, and much of the sea begun their migrations. Still, we saw penguins, seals, sea lions. Just not as many as you would expect in a higher season. Along the way, we saw many guanaco, and mara, and a hawk.
Our guide Diego spoke excellent English, and made sure that we had enough time to visit the important sites and get back to ship with time to spare.
Some things that you should know. This tour involves a long drive - about 2.5 hours each way - and half of that drive is over gravel road. Any tour from port to see wildlife will have similar travel times. If you are prone to motion sickness you might want to ensure you have a small tour. Ours was a group of 12, so 14 people including driver and guide in a 15-seat tour bus. There was not too much walking on this tour. We made a number of stops and at each one there was a short walk.
In short, this is an excellent tour with a well run tour company with knowledgeable and experienced guide and driver. I would book with them again without hesitation.
Thanks!

Sentir Patagonia Travel is an Excellent Tour Group. I highly recommend them for any tour or cruise shore excursion you may choose. They were organized, communicated well, start to finish and the tour was exactly as I expected. Having said that, it is important that if you choose a tour to Peninsula Valdez, you understand where you are going and what you MAY or MAY not see. The roads are rough and the animals are wild. So to get anywhere takes a long time (as the reviews, our guide and I knew before) and wild animals show up whenever, wherever (as the reviews our guide and I knew before.). So for me, the tour was exactly as expected with an amazing tour guide Carolina Garcia, exceptional well-prepared, knowledgeable and talked about the animals whether we saw them or not. We had a great driver that stopped and wiggled the bus best as possible to help us see whatever animals we could. But we went at the end of the season, on a very windy day and so we saw LOTS of Guanacos, no penguins and LOTS of Elephant Seals. We saw a great deal of Peninsula Valdez. It was what I expected. But you will enjoy it, appreciate it and rate it highly if you understand exactly what you are choosing. Sentir Patagonia has lots of choices and will work with you to get what you want. The buses were smaller size and in GREAT shape, far better than many other places we have toured.

I highly recommend this excellent tour to a remote and fantastic place. The Peninsula Valdes is a wonder and we learned so much from our guide Carolina who told us about the economic and human history of the area. The Patagonia landscape is both harsh (with no natural sources of fresh water other than its sparse rainfall) and ecologically fragile. Yet, animals such as guanacos, hairy armadillos, maras, penguins and several species of seal and sea lion have adapted and survived. Driver Diego not only provided a safe ride, he spotted wildlife and slowed to allow passengers to get a better view. On the way to see the elephant seals and Magellanic penguins we spotted dozens of guanaco roaming, maras, and many birds. Since there was a crowd at the stop for penguins, we continued to see the elephant seals first. There is a vantage point on a cliff above the beach where a colony of huge elephant seals bask in the sun. We had lots of time to view and walk the 1 km trail for more scenic viewing. Next we backtracked to the penguin nesting area. Thanks to good planning by Carolina and Diego, when we arrived at the penguin area there was only one small van there and they left within a few minutes. We had wonderful, close up views of penguins outside the nests and of the colony below on the beach. Our final stop was the interpretation centre with more interesting facts of the area. We are very grateful to have been able to visit this amazing place and Muchos Gracias to Carolina and Diego.

The trip was a bit disappointing as the sea lions and penguins were far away. Christian the tour guide was both pleasant and informative but the tour itself was mostly riding in a bus with very little opportunity to have close up encounters with local wildlife. We found the trip was way overpriced and would not recommend to others

Dear Passenger we are so sorry, you feel that way during our tour, but if you check the last 20 reviews 90% are 5 stars, I understand you are disapointed, but we provide a service to take you to see wildlife, it´s not a zoo, sometimes there are 10 penguins or hundreds of them. also we advertise about the 120 miles each way,

Mary and the driver Eduardo , gave us a fabulous experience.Mary pointed out various wildlife on our trip and we felt very safe with Eduardo who was the driver who had to drive on unsurfaced roads with ruts .
We knew from the information on the trip that we would be on the bus for a long time to our destination and it was.
but we found the time passed as Mary was very informative . We were able to stop on the way for a short while to see an exhibition and use the facilities .
On the trip when Mary saw an animal of interest Eduardo would stop and give us time to look.
During the drive we saw birds of prey , guanacos , and were lucky enough to see Gauchos on horseback rounding up the sheep.
At the peninsular we saw elephant seals and penguins , when we had time to take photographs .
It was an amazing trip , so thank you Mary and Eduardo .
Also thanks to Diego who we met at the cruise terminal.
It was the trip never to be forgotten so thank you to Mary and Eduardo.

We were on an Antartica cruise and booked this tour. Unfortunately, Mother Nature was not cooperative on this day, it was raining when we left the dock and morphed into horrible thunderstorms. With the rain we saw no wildlife except some lamas as we drove by. Sadly, the tour was cut short due to the Park closing due to inclement weather, tour operators were notified to exit so we returned to Pto Madryn. The tour was mainly the 2 hr van ride each way. Our guide was very apologetic, he was knowledgeable regarding the wildlife and typographic of Patagonio; driver was very skilled driving in the horrible weather. A sack lunch provided, and it was abundant and tasty. Due to the inclement weather and the tour being shortened = 4 stars.

After taking final payment our cruise on Skorpios II in Patagonia was cancelled due to a lack of passengers. This late cancellation which was 2 weeks only before we left Australia and 5 weeks before cruise departure turned our trip on its head. Due to it being peak season and having already organised activities in Torres Del Paine we found difficulty in finding and booking alternative ways to spend our days. I would suggest don’t book unless you have a confirmed sailing.

We actually booked through Shore Excursions Group to take advantage of the money back if we didn’t make it to port. The ship’s schedule changed dramatically several times, but as promised, Sentir Patagonia was waiting for us 30 minutes after arrival with a blue balloon. We were on a bus with 15-20 others from our ship, with Gustavo driving and Martin as guide. They both are excellent at spotting animals and birds, although no specific animal is guaranteed on any particular tour, weather and season dependent. We saw guanacos, a mara, chioques, elephant seals, and a few Magellanic penguins, as well as some burrowing owls at the end of the tour. We were given plenty of notice of what was coming, how long each drive would be, and when restrooms would be available. Great tour, knowledgeable guide!

Our guide was very well informed and she had flawless English, however the drivers had significant problems. The first driver apparently failed to tighten lug nuts and a wheel sheared one nut and we needed a replacement van. The new van driver followed mortocycles in front at an unsafe distance, and frequently drove in the middle of the road.

dear passenger, we sent the vehicle to replace the brake pads, and the shop tight too much the wheel and that it´s the problem, it's not an excuse, but it wasn't the driver responsability. and the second driver, we didn´t know about this situation, and we will take care of that. I'm so sorry for this situation, we always try to solve any kind of problem asap.
kind regards

Is it true that you cannot see penguins in April? thank you.
Written February 24, 2020
We were there this month, February. There was nothing mentioned however they did say that they came in to shore to raise their young and once they were old enough they went back to sea with them. We do not know when the young are born though....
We had our best viewing of penguins at the Valdez Peninsula on this trip ...we were within a metre of them..they showed no fear in fact seemed quite curious...a very good experience.

Hi Kathie,
It depends on when the ship leaves. The tour takes 7 hours. There is about 5 hours of driving there and back. We found the tour very interesting although the landscape all the route is dry and arid.
Hope this helps.
