Excellent, well organized day trip experience
Feb 2020
During our visit to Buenos Aires in February 2020, my wife and I decided to take a day trip to Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. While this is a trip that can be done independently, we decided to make arrangements with Signature Tours—they did not disappoint! All of the transport arrangements were handled by Signature Tours and everything went smoothly the entire day.

We were picked up at our hotel at approximately 7:15am by a very friendly and helpful driver who drove us to the ferry and walked us to the check in area and provided additional instructions as to the customs/immigration process—note that passports are required.

The ferry ride on the Buquebus was quite comfortable and took approximately 1 ½ hours. Once we arrived in Colonia del Sacramento we were greeted by the very friendly Alejandra. Since it was just my wife and I, we were treated to a truly private tour. Alejandra was a wealth of information and answered all of our questions. The walking tour was well paced for approximately 2 hours. We were then able to explore the town on our own for the remainder of the afternoon. Our driver picked us up promptly at the designated meeting spot and drove us to the ferry. Back in Buenos Aires, our driver met us in person inside the terminal and we were driven directly to our hotel where we arrived safe and sound. This was an excellent day trip experience which I highly recommend to anyone who wants to explore a little piece of Uruguay.

Visit to Colonia
Mar 2020
This was more than I expected. This is a lovely town and our tour guide was excellent. The only issue was that I felt there was a bit too much time to tour on our own but overall I would highly recommend this trip.

Colonia trip

Nice and relaxing trip... the boat ride was quick and pleasant.. our local tour guide Alejandra was very friendly, detailed and full of information. Lots of restaurants options for lunch by the water. A relaxing, not intense trip for family and couple taking a stroll in a beautiful day. But for the town itself, not much to see and explore. But signature tour does great job for arranging, pick ups and etc. good company and I would recommend it.

Small group small town
Jan 2020
There were 4 people in my group including the guide. The other tourist turned out to be from a city I spent 4 decades. .The guide spoke excellent English and was most knowledgeable about the city. After the tour, we had some hours before heading back to the ferry. We had a delightful meal at a riverside restaurant where I had a classic sandwich of Uruguay called a Chivito, We had time to wonder about the different Portuguese and Spanish building exploring and shopping. Not one problem.

There’s More to Uruguay Than You Think!
This tour was fantastic to learn about Uruguay and it’s history! Situated between Brazil and Argentina, you don’t hear much about it and you do not learn about it in history class in the US. Colonia was settled by the Portuguese and eventually taken over by the Spanish. Alejandra, my guide for the day, explained a lot of the history of Uruguay along with current social events. I learned a lot in the hours that I spent listening to her and asking questions. There’s free time as well to walk around and explore more of the town. Look for a restaurant called Tipico Nuestro on the Main Street. Great food and service!

Beautiful day at Colonia!
Oct 2019 • Solo
I traveled here on a day trip from Buenos Aires. Colonia is a charming and picturesque place. The historic center is really magical! It quickly takes you to the colonial era with its cobbled streets, flowers and old houses super well preserved.
With Colonia being just an hour away on ferry from Buenos Aires, it gives you the perfect opportunity to add another country and another stamp to your passport.

Would definitely recommend taking this day trip!

OK but far too expensive for what you get
Oct 2019
This trip is a bit of a mixed bag.

It’s great to get the fast ferry across to colonia from Buenos Aires and the guided walking tour was fine.

However, 4 hours of free time is too long in Colonia unless you want to go further afield - you can hire bikes / buggies to do this.

My main issue is the cost. A return ferry trip online is c. £50. The taxi pick up is probably worth £20 based on current Uber fares in BA. the walking tour is maybe £20 at a push. So why does the trip cost double this?

You could very easily arrange this yourself with more flexibility and for half the price. My advice - look elsewhere.

Hola Antonia, thank you for your review. It is great that you enjoyed the tour! As we spoke yesteday in the ferry back we feel that 6hs is a good time in Colonia (2hs with our guide and 4hs to have lunch and walk on your own). Unfortunatelly at this time of the year there is no ferry back earlier. But we will check different timings once other ferry are available. Regarding the costs, you are quoting several items below: the transfer and guide in Colonia costs much more and a car with a professional driver who speaks English is not comparable to an Uber that is illegal and therefore does not pay taxes and has no insurance. The total cost that is too much you should add the taxes that the company must pay and Viator/Tripadvisor commission. So you are right that if you buy a trip on your own by contacting all the suppliers it will be cheaper than if you buy it through an online travel agency. But this tour is charged correctly according to the services it provides. We hope to assist you again in the future! Abrazo, Axel

Beautiful Day In A Charming City
Jul 2019 • Couples
Yes, boarding the ferry from Buenos Aires is hectic but this tour is a great experience and worth the hassle.

A very polite and punctual driver picked us up at our Palermo hotel for the 1/2 hour drive to the ferry terminal. Once we disembarked in Colonia, our driver and guide, Alejandra, were waiting for us in the terminal. There were just two of us guests and the guide took us on a tour of the City and learned many interesting facts about this unique country. We then walked for two hours as our guide showed us around and explained the history and architecture of Old Town. We then had time on our own for shopping, lunch, coffee, and more exploration.
The driver and guide picked us up on time and the guide walked us into the ferry terminal all the way to immigration. Boarding in Colonia was very easy. When we returned to BA, our driver was in the terminal waiting for.
Besides the very professional drivers and guide, we were very impressed that they did not cancel the small group tour because there were only two of us.
Be aware that the shops and restaurants will take the currency of Argentina, Brazil, or USA. Some even took Euros. The fair exchange rate is posted to avoid confusion.
