- Tverevkina0 contributionsGreat experience and a lot of information about history of TomarSarah was our wonderful guide on a tour in Tomar. She explained the history and culture of people of Tomar very well and answered the avalanche of questions we had. Tapas at the end of the tour was a nice addition.Written October 4, 2023
- Paul B0 contributionsTop to bottom insights of the Convent.Wow - what an incredible tour of the Convent of Christ! Helena was fantastic! With so much to see and understand and she didn’t skip a beat with all our interrupting questions. Her long history with the place gave us unbelievable insights into the Convent and the Knights Templar who created it. It was a highlight of our time in Portugal that will stay with us forever. Thanks so much!Written March 19, 2023
- Durochervision0 contributionsThe city center history comes alive with this tour!Sandra was an excellent guide! She really made you understand the people, history, and architecture of Évora. The little details everywhere came alive with her knowledge. A great way to spend 3 hours.Written November 20, 2022
- James D0 contributionsTime well spentDavid, our tour guide was the best tour guide we have ever had. We have done similar tours in many international cities and he was the best. His training and education gave him a sound knowledge of Tomar and its history. He was also very friendly and a good communicator. I think many people go to Tomar just to tour the Covent and the Castle. The city has many other historic aspects that are worth learning about. I highly recommend this tour and company if you are planning to visit Tomar.Written October 3, 2022
- V5124CEgaild0 contributionsHistory of TomarDavid was an outstanding guide, extremely knowledgeable and relaxed. We enjoyed the city tour so much that we booked the castle and convent tour for the next morning. I would highly recommend both tours.Written September 10, 2022
- KimofOz0 contributionsTomar city tourWe did the city tour of Tomar with David after he informed us we couldn't tour the Convent of Christ as it was closed due to a Netflix filming. We were disappointed to not see this famous site but David gave us a lot of the Templar's history albeit without the spectacular backdrop. Next time.Written July 4, 2022

- VindaGoan0 contributionsSatisfied with the walking tourOur guide was Joao, who was prompt on time, knowledgeable. He gave us first historical background of Tomar before we started our walking tour. He took us to the spots and told details and also answered our questions well! Only thing we did not get neither coffee or icecream as said in the tour description. Other than that we were satisfied with the tour and would recommend to see Tomar with a guide.Written October 28, 2019

A real experience. This massive complex was the HQ of the Portuguese Templars for many years and time and $$$ were lavished on it particularly in the 16thC. Currently being restored and almost devoid of any furnishings it is still a most impressive experience.
An astonishing church, beautiful courtyards, cloisters, carvings. Take your time.

David took his time in explaining the history of the town and the convent, he was very knowledgable and passionate about it. We were glad to book this tour and not embarked alone, as the convent is rich in history that is as beautiful, if not more, than the magnificent structure itself. The place is massive and it would be best to have a guide to walk you through it.

I first visited this site ten years ago, and on this trip I visited it twice. With each visit I get to experience new insights and explore more history, architecture and religion. I am sure another visit would not be disappointing. I also recommend that if you want a more interesting walk, do so through the park and enter via the gardens and battlements. This walk is not recommended for children (buggies) or people with mobility issues.

This was a simply fantastic tour! Our guide did an excellent job helping the entire group navigate the ticketing and grounds. She gave a very insightful and knowledgeable presentation of the building, the Templar order and the history of the time. It was done in an understandable, humorous and every day style that made it both interesting and entertaining. It did not become dry or boring, as many of these experiences can. Would most definitely recommend. It made the visit so much more meaningful.

À great history lesson delivered by a very well informed tour guide ! The building, the detail in the construction and the stories about the occupants through its long history made for a fascinating and enjoyable experience. This is a must do for any visitors to the area !

We had an amazing tour of the convent that lasted even longer than the advertised tour length. David, our tour guide, made it interesting and fun, and it was the most that we learned on our entire two weeks of our Portugal trip. Not only did David know about the convent, but he knew about the history of Tomar. It seemed like every question we asked he could answer.

It was a very good experience. We were accompanied by Guide Sara. Very friendly, very attentive and explains very well the walkers without giving "dry". We went with 2 1 year old babies and she was very attentive, walked at our pace, stopped when we needed something with the kids and even gave a help with the baby cart. I recommend guided visit, because if we were alone we did not see the promenades, nor did we know the true history.

I loved this tour company. Our guide was David. He was extremely knowledgeable of the location. He is from the area and has been to the site many times over the years. He is a very experienced tour guide. He answered all our questions and we learned more about the Templar Knights than we had ever known before. Our hotel was very close, so he came to our hotel to greet us and start the tour. He gave us a quick overview of the town square before hiking up the hill to the convent. This site is a true treasure not to be missed. David hit all the little details you might not get on a big tour. I highly recommend hiring this company for a tour. You will not be disappointed in the extreme love of history they have for this incredible history filled location.

It was an incredible experience to get to know the city of Tomar guided by these 2 young men, David and João. The amazing quality of this guided tour stems from the deep historical knowledge and love that these local guides have for their home town. It was a pleasure and i'll be sure to come back for the other tours and experiences that Open Roads Portugal has to offer.

I'm confused. Your tour on tripadvisor of the convent/castle in Tomar says the price includes admission ticket, then says it doesn't. Which is correct?
Inclusions
Ticket to enter the Convent of Christ
Exclusions
Entry/Admission - Convento de Cristo
Written February 19, 2021
Thanks for calling our attention to this problem. We're already trying to fix it with tripadvisor.
The tickets to the convent of christ are included with the tour.

Es posible realizar el tour en español?
Hay posibilidad que añadir otras visitas para contemplar una ruta de los templarios en lugares cercanos partiendo desde Tomar?
Gracias
