About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- mc8sr0 contributionsA thoroughly enjoyable trip with great instructors on lovely horses. What a treat! We booked a 2 hour horse ride through the vineyards as a way to get to see the landscape and have a lovely experience. There were 4 of us in our group, one was a very experienced rider and the other 3 had ridden but not for a while . The communication with Louise in advance was excellent. We met in the grounds of the vineyard, where there was a nice cafe and restaurant so we could get breakfast before our trip. The instructor was simply excellent and he soon got to know us and our abilities. The horses were lovely, very healthy and a pleasure to ride. Each of us were very satisfied and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. This trip was a real treat and one of the highlights of our time in South Africa.Written September 25, 2024
- katharinethompson820 contributionsUnmissableMy son and I did a two hour ride in the vineyards and it was the highlight of our holiday. Lou is amazing company. The horses are beautiful and well trained (definitely not bored plod along ponies) the scenery is spectacular. We walked trotted and cantered through the countryside and I kept having to pinch myself. This is an unmissable experience!Written August 17, 2024
- jenm0z0 contributionsThe most wonderful day with experienced and lovely LouiseWe had the most wonderful day riding through the vineyard followed by a lovely lunch with wine. After a safety brief we were introduced to the gorgeous, well cared for horses before heading out in a small group. We’re not experienced riders but we were put at ease by Louise, Rudy and the horses so the trail was relaxed and beautiful. The scenery is just epic. So many happiness spikes!Written February 12, 2024
- Martina M0 contributions10 star experience!!!What a nice way of spending some time in the vineyards. I was lucky enough to be the only one on the tour with Tequila (horse) and one of the owners (Rudi?) that day, so I had plenty of opportunities to ask questions and learn about the quite unpleasant past of the horses as well as about the steps taken to rescue them. One could clearly see that the present owners care about the horses and their wellbeing. An absolutely worthwile (and informative) trip to beautiful Stellenbosch vineyards on horseback in nice company. Thank you!!!Written October 14, 2023
- Trent24060 contributionsFantastic experience and breathtaking views! This was a fantastic experience! We picked the half-day horseback ride and rode throughout the different vineyards for about five hours. Halfway through the ride, we stopped at a winery to taste seven different wines and some amazing food. We liked the wine so much that my wife purchased a few bottles to take with us. We are not experienced riders, and they took the time to make sure we were safe and having a great time. The views were breathtaking! We highly recommend this tour if you are visiting Cape Town.Written June 2, 2023
- Charlotte F0 contributionsHeaven on earthBeautiful horses and amazing ladies who were a joy to ride with. A big thank you to the Pink Geranium girls for introducing me to the SA riding experience and the stunning scenery. I did a 2 hour ride and then re-booked a half-day wine tour and both were amazing. Highly recommended if you love riding in a beautiful setting. Thank you Lucky for two enjoyable rides.Written March 29, 2023
- Biltongtraveller0 contributionsFantastic riding experienceWonderful riding with Louise over 3 days through the vineyards and on the beach. I rode a different horse each day, all beautifully mannered and lovely to ride. Such a great experience to be able to ride in these open spaces with the backdrop of Table Mountain. Thoroughly recommend riding here and I am planning my next trip!Written March 18, 2023
- P6670BMkevinb0 contributionsBrilliant way to send the dayIt was so relaxing to take a 2 hour ride through the vineyards. Our host and guide were amazing at getting us comfortable with the horses and showing us the basics.Written April 11, 2022
- Julia_and_Zach0 contributionsExperience of a lifetime!Finlay, the sweetest, kindest horse! Watching the sun go down as the moon rose from horse back. Fun - cantering through the vineyards! Experience of a lifetime- bareback swimming with the horses in the dam!! Kind, well trained and in great condition - Lou's horses are definitely not your average plod-along trail ponies :)Written March 16, 2022
- Expedition6742290 contributionsHighly Recommended! We had a small group of only four people which is great if you have any questions. To put it in a nutshell, it was an awesome experience to ride the horses through and along the wine fields. Louise is a great guide, looking after everyone and showed us how to control the horses. We also made a break to rest and drink a glass of wine in the fields. If you like horses, if you are interested in horses, and/or if you are interested in the landscape, we can only highly recommend this tour! Markus & Jane ps make sure to bring enough sunblocker with you :-DWritten February 21, 2020
- 957charles0 contributionsPerfect getaway with Louise and the horses in the wine yards! It was an amazing experience and Louise is such a perfect host. I am an experienced ride myself and she really treated me like that which gave me an amazing feeling. We were just the two of us and we had a lively evening ride together. The horses are fantastic, they are very calm and well behaving as well. I really really enjoyed the ride and I if you love horseriding you should definitely book a ride with Louise.Written January 13, 2020

- 113elleng0 contributionsBest honeymoon ever!My husband and I had the best time riding with Louise and friends! We chose this riding experience due to all the reviews about how well cared for the horses are, and we were not disappointed. Round, shiny, and friendly ponies! The views were absolutely gorgeous, and Louise let us take our time to soak them all in. Our picnic lunch was a blast, and we very much enjoyed getting to know them. Hope to do this again soon!Written October 22, 2019
- Meg T0 contributionsSpectacularMy husband and I went on a ride with Louise and her delightful horses, and I could not be more pleased with the experience! she made both of us feel very comfortable and at home, and took us on a route that best displayed the blooming wildflowers. So gorgeous! She took several pictures for us, and knew a ton about the local wildlife and vegetation. She also had a few stellar recommendations for local things to do, eat, and drink... All in all, highly recommend!!Written October 6, 2019

Highly recommend Louise and the team at the Pink Germainium -- if you are considering any sort of horseback riding experience in the Capetown wine country, look no further, Louise and team are phenomenal across the board. My wife and I did the full day riding tour during a time when all of the wineries were closed due to COVID, but Louise went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time, enjoyed the idyllic scenery, and had a scrumptious feast of a picnic to boot. Louise and team's knowledge / experience and genuine care for the horses makes any tour with them a treat not to be missed during your time in Cape Town.

My wife and I did a full day horseback riding tour with Louise and had an amazing time. We booked directly through her website (can't put a URL on TA - search for Horseback Riding at Pink Geranium and you will find it) and the communication was excellent from the start.
It is clear that Louise wants to give the customer a riding experience that is well tailored to what they want, what their riding capabilities are and what is best for the horses. My wife rides a fair bit whereas I am a beginner rider - she paired us each up with a perfect horse. Kelly's would require a bit more attention which kept Kelly engaged and mine was a well seasoned horse that still had lots of capability with the right rider.
It was just the two of us and Louise on the tour which made for great riding, and great conversation. A picnic lunch was packed for us and we rode to a perfect spot to enjoy scenery and the food Lou had made. Unfortunately, and randomly, both of the wine farms we stopped at were closed for the day so we could not do tastings, but Lou brought wine, and got a bottle from one of the closed vineyards for us to enjoy on our first stop and over lunch. This was not a huge issue for us as we were doing wine tastings the next day, and this excursion was more about the riding than it was the wine.
It is clear that Louise takes care of the horses and they all appeared to be healthy and sound. The horse my wife was riding (Princess) ended up lame at the end of the ride (which happens with any horse for many reasons) and after a short period of assessment, Louise decided it best that she not have a rider on her for the last couple kilometers. So, Kelly jumped on the horse that Louise was riding and Lou walked beside Princess the rest of the way back. It would have been easy for someone to cared less about the health of the animal to force the horse through the soreness. This is what you want to see from someone who works with animals! (Louise updated us and Princess was checked by the Vet the next day, and had no major injury - just soreness and will be off work until healed).
Note that we rode in English saddles and I suspect that she puts everyone on an English saddle. So it's not the cushy/comfy western saddle that some people would be used to on many commercial "trail rides".
But what you get with this ride is not a commercial "trail ride". It is far beyond that. It is the best way to see the beautiful wine country for horse people and I can't recommend it enough.

Dear Adam,
You have just give. Me the single most rewarding moment of my professional life!
What you have written in your review is exactly what I aimed to do when I started doing this!
The horses have to be the centre of it all, but beyond that I wanted to give people something extra ordinary, beyond a commercial trail ride.
So thank you, thank you, thank you!
